    Eamonn was ROGERS.

@CoveredEnd beat me I'm afraid although he did question his answer and didn't get the date so I'll accept the accolade.
Booo. Please sir. I won. No one asked for the date. I'm taking my ball home now :-)
Did you look in the Handbook or is your memory just very sharp ?

  • Charlton have signed experienced defender Roger Johnson on a permanent deal until the end of the season

I'd hardly call 4 months permanent, but Hope this turns into a positive signing...........

Well in Football you either join on a Permanent basis or on loan... Cant be on loan can he if he didnt have a club

More from my West Ham mate:
'Actually played well for us, wouldn't have been disappointed if we'd signed him as a backup centre back.'

This is the thing... Have noticed a few people say that Johnson got torn apart some games for West Ham last season yet that was in the Premier League, a lot of good players got shown up in the top flight last season but still wouldnt say no to them joining
  • He's not a bad player as I remember, but with 1 league goal in 5 games maybe we should have put a bit of effort into other areas of the team as well. Just a thought.....
  • I have no problem with Johnson personally. I think the club made a mistake not getting a striker, but IMO Johnson is a decent centre back. If he can get fully match fit before the end of the season, he could be an asset. He hasn't played for a LONG time so it could be a while before he is ready to start games.
  • I wonder if he will turn out to be an improvement on Morrison or Dervite. The thread comparing this team with the one that finished 9th did not make me think we are improving our playing resources let alone galvanising a team spirit. But as ever welcome to him and good luck. Who knew Yann would turn out to be so popular when he signed (apart from Powell that is)?

    So that's

    A goalie (network)
    A midfielder (non network)
    A defensive midfielder (non network)
    A CB (not network)

Need another striker but we never got one let's see what comes in the loan market

Tut tut.... All these network signings!!! Grrrr (shakes head furiously)
Nothing to do with me. I'm minding my own business waiting for a CF who holds it up to appear.
I think Aston Villa joined that queue long before us.

I am very impressed with the balanced characters and personalities that are brought together to form a harmonious dressing room. Bikey, Johnson, and TBH. I am sure that they will get on brilliantly and there will be no trouble...............just perfect for the togetherness that the squad will need for the remaining difficult part of the season.

Why won't Villa play D Bent? what's their problem?
  • Not featuring in the u21 game tonight. Maybe didn't sign in time or maybe went back to sort out his bits for the move down South. He could have done with an hour or so though

Thought I'd fix that for you.

“The manager and I had a brief conversation and he has mentioned that we need a forward who can hold the ball up and a creative midfielder but the owner told him he can make do with experience and an organiser. I cover both of those and have played a lot of games in the Championship. Organising and shouting and all that is part of my game and are essential additions to the CAFC skill set so it should be OK.

Johnson added: “I’m an old-fashioned centre-half. I like a tackle, I like to head the ball and then give to people who can play (the opposition?).
    (
“I’ll be organising, making sure we don’t concede and then hopefully the forward players can do their job (that'll be a no then). ”

  • I know nothing about him, but I welcome him to the club.

    He's 31 not 21...

That's all he has been playing for about a year, U21 games. (3 over aged players allowed)
I think that's why he enjoyed having a training session with a senior squad today.

He could be our new Alex Ferguson. [Insert long-serving defender's name here]

You're allowed 3 over age players though ;-)
  • “I’ve said to him that after a good solid week of training I’ll be looking to get into the team and go from there.”

If he can be ready in a week, why is taking Watt a month

Pick him and he shall play.

    But don't isolate him,
    strike partners come in two's

    Trifle optimistic the guy.

Has not played a game in twelve months.
  • That was a joke by the way
  • Certainly comes across well in his first interview. Be amazed if he's ready in a week but then Bikey is not exactly fit at the moment either.

Still don't understand why we let MM go on a free though. As VFF says it's going to be a feisty dressing room with TBH, Bikey, Johnson, Watt and Luzon.

My memory is appalling, but I did remember Roger Smart.
  • Nothing personal but as others have mentioned it makes no sense signing him? Who chose him? Doubt it would be Luzon. We already have a reserve ageing centre back in Onyewu and let Morrison go. Just do not get it? But then I do not get how Bikey has gone from adored beast to unfit lumbering error prone defender.
  • 'The fans want Championship experience and seemingly not more network players, this guy has played in the Premier League, fans should be happy and grateful' .

Getting insanely fed up with the amount of loans and short term contract players. Especially one in Johnsons high calibre level of prickness.
  • I think if Johnson can get 100 per cent fit and committed to the cause, he will be a good addition. He is a good header of the ball in both boxes and is a vocal presence. I notice we are bringing in bigger, more physical players in Lepoint, Johnson and the Spurs player, which should help us defend set pieces better. We have been a bit lightweight in that department and Luzon likes to play more direct Football. But we are still missing a Centre Forward who can hold the ball up and pitch in with a few goals. A playmaker in central midfield would also be nice.
