Another clean sheet to-day against Plymouth

So that's now 9 games for Bury and only 5 goals conceded in those games.
So after the Luton game that's now 10 games for Bury and only 5 goals conceded.

He's got to be our number 2 next season.
Trouble is... Does he want to be a No.2 next season?
    I doubt it.

  • If you think a couple of mistakes of a 20 year old keeper means you write him off just recall De Gea's early games for United 3 seasons a go, he was an embarrassment, 10 times worse than Pope's errors. But Fergie just stuck with him and showed belief, now look at him.

De Gea was a proven goalkeeper with Athletico Madrid, however.

I really hope Popey has a great career; I also hope Henderson has a 10 year career with us as I think he's the best we've had since Deano

Is he any good at full back?

Sounds like a Peeters Riga Powell Parkinson Pardew selection to me
  • Got MOTM yesterday and saved a pen... well done Popey.
  • Another clean sheet

    Another clean sheet

yup another LEAGUE 2 clean sheet, now as good as that is, he did that last season
he needs to go on loan to a league 1 side and then come back
not go from league 2 to the Championship
  • Made 2 vital stops yesterday - a tip over from a tricky bounce and a full stretch with his legs.
He is different gravy at that level.
  • Needs L1 game time. Hopefully, next season with Bury on loan.
  • With confidence, he's easily good enough for the Championship.

  • Now 12 games for Bury, only 6 goals conceded.

Don't understand this criticism that it's "only" another League 2 side. Football at that level is pretty physical and any weaknesses in taking crosses, standing up for himself etc would soon be exploited by the lumbering, shaven-headed types who frequent this level.

Have too agree with this, it's all about confidence with most keepers.

  • We got Dean Kiley from Bury, he had previously played for York. This Pope stuff is so similar.
  • Another clean sheet against his old club York
  • Far too good for league two as his time last season at York proves.
  • I really really hope he does come back next year and when he gets the chance will play a lot better.

    Zonal Marking is terrible.
  • I really hope he doesn't play a part in our squad next year and heads out to L1 for a full season playing every game.

He's thriving when playing, and chucking him into champ when we may be looking at trying to push playoffs (dare I dream) will put so much pressure on the lad. When he makes a mistake people will be less forgiving if it's costing us 6th spot.

Keep developing Pope and stick with Hendo as number 1.

I agree about Henderson although he does seem to pick up injurys so him and Pope would be a great pairing

I hope he plays in our League Cup game then goes out on loan. I would like to see him and Marko each have half a season on loan in League 1.

Hendo will remaon number one for next season, but his injury record will open the door to either of the back ups and then there is the other couple of young keepers making their way.
  • Will Phillips and Mitov still be with us next season, as I can see us having quite a logjam of keepers, with Hendo, Markovic and Pope in front of them?

  • Bury supporting mate is raving over him.
  • Just saw that York fans booed Popey, despite what he did for them last year.

I know who I want to go down from L2 now.
  • Just saw that York fans booed Popey, despite what he did for them last year.

Seriously... that is the strangest thing I've read all season...

Why would you boo a guy who pretty much single handedly took you to the Play-Offs and would have got them to the final had they been able to score!!

Absolute lies, my York supporting mate who's a season ticket holder said he got the best reception any ex player could have got.
They were even singing his name, yes there might have been one or two idiots booing, which you often find at charlton
  • You never know he might be quite good next season if he doesn't have Bikey and Ben Haim moaning and going mia with crosses.

Being a goalkeeper is hardly the same as a striker. Experience is most important, whatever division you're in. There's plenty of old pros in the lower division who'll use gamesmanship at corners etc.
  • Henderson has only once played more than half a season at any of the 10 clubs he has been at. We need another goalie who is at lest as good as him as cover, they will almost certainly get 25-30 games

"The victory was Bury's sixth in seven matches with Pope between the sticks and a forthright Flitcroft said: "After Nick Pope had been booed by their fans, I told the players at half-time to get a clean sheet for him. He did a fantastic job for York and that was out of order"

This is a direct quote from the Bury manager as published by the press association.
  • I see Bury are playing Southend at home on 28th, as it is only an hour's journey for me I might well go and see Pope and Pigott, I'll let you know if I go

As I thought with York last season, if Bury go up I'd like to see Pope play a full League One season up there.

If all goes well we can bring him into the Championship the following season. He's a proper talent and we would be insane to let him leave permanently.
  • I still think he will do a great job for us - do not forget the disastrous zonal marking at corners and then the public slagging off by that tw*t Bob Peeters that did it for him and his confidence. With the discarding of the zonal marking at corners he would probably give Henderson a good run for his money between the sticks...
