Sad to see him go. He was the first CB (with the exception of a good Christian Dailly season) to cement a place in the side with consistency since the Premier League days.
He will do well at Birmingham. I wish him the best of luck.
A sound, consistent and very gutsy player. His leadership, together with that of Jacko, played a big part in keeping us afloat last year. I wish him every success.
I hope we got a decent fee, although I somehow doubt that we recovered our original outlay of around £200,000. A very good signing by Rowett.
We go him on a fee but agree with the rest.
Good player who played with heart and effort.
Was also part of a successful team.
Shame to see him go but everyone leaves in the end. Deserves a big cheer when we play them up there (before the game starts).
Good business signing him on a deal in the summer so now getting a fee. Who would have thought of that idea.
Bearing in mind it came out yesterday that Birmingham needed to raise something like £4.4m in the short-term to keep going, any form of fee i would expect to be minimal and they are getting themselves a proven Champ level centre half at the right age for a bargain.
As said before though, with our multi-club set-up, i place less importance on what fee we get for players now as we have no idea where that fee goes.
I have always liked Michael a 100% honest professional who served the club excellently. Obviously he was not in BB's plans so we have done the right thing and let him get on with his career. I wish him all the best and hope he gets a warm welcome whenever he comes back to The Valley.
Shame but he wasn't goign to get the game time unfortunately.
Good move all round
Is it? With a lack of cover at CB I wouldn't say it's a good move all round.
Onyewu, Gomez, Thomas, Fox all can cover
Bikey/TBH hardly injury prone either
Its bad enough having Fox at LB, I won't turn up if he plays at CB!
But if Onyewu gets a deal to the end of the year then I am not overly fussed at losing Morrison. Been a good servant though and a decent player so good luck to him.
When he was dallying over signing a new contract, some on here were saying if he went it would be the last straw and the whole sheebang would come crashing down around the Belgians.
Less than six months later, he's moving on as he can't get a game.
A tough one as either TBH or Bikey could get a long-term injury any moment and we may well regret not having him to step in but at his age it's not unreasonable that he just wants to play regular football.
Assume he's one ex-player who'll get a very good reception when we play them later in the season.
Morrison did a good job for us, but I can sort of understand that we're after better players in that position now, if we're serious about promotion. I'm not sure Gomez is anywhere ready to play at CB though, it's much harder to play there than at full back, where you have far more license to get forward, and midfielders dropping in to cover.
I guess we're doing the right thing by Morro, allowing him to leave for the first team football he deserves. I'm worried we'll look rather silly if Bikey or TBH get injured, maybe we should be a little more selfish at times.
As many have already posted, a great stalwart of the 2012-14 squad. Getting us back to the Championship and keeping us there as part of one of the strongest defences in the league. This is a good move as we do have cover - I would make Morro fourth choice behind Ben Haim, Bikey and Gomez. I hope over the next two windows we see more of these deals where we receive money and improve the squad with academy players or quality acquisitions. Player sales are a vital revenue stream for a club of our size representing 15% of turnover in the last couple of seasons. All helps to keep our losses and therefore our overall debts down. I understand worries that Ben Haim might be out of contract in the summer and we have the same concern with Buyens loan coming to an end. But we do know the vast majority of what is a decent squad are on long term deals. Who gets extended and who is sold will tell us a lot about future ambition.
Shame but he wasn't goign to get the game time unfortunately.

Fox is a CB first, LB second I believe.
Well LB certainly cannot be his first choice position given recent performances! I saw him a couple of times in youth games 3/4 years ago and he only ever placed LB.

No we didnt, he cost around 150-200k.
I was told by a very reliable source Weds wanted £250k but we told them that as we'd just signed another centre half (Taylor I think) we said we didnt want Morrison so much. Weds blinked and rather than keeping an unhappy player, we got him on a free.
Shame but he wasn't goign to get the game time unfortunately.

Interesting. What are Onyewu's strengths would you say. I hasn't seen him play yet so am not sure.

Seen him play loads of times, he is strong and good in the air. Not saying he is a better player than Morrison, but its 3rd choice CB so not really a priority.

fair enough, I was told he cost 120k plus add ons but thats not a certainty, and yes it would have been Taylor.
Good luck to Morro after providing us with great service to help us back out of the wilderness.
It's just a shame we seem so charitable as ever when players leave. I understand he's given us a lot of service and just wants to play but it just makes me wonder whether any other club in this league would part with a proven Championship centre back on a free transfer. Michael Smith (although a striker) was another, under the previous ownership but same end result and would cost us more to sign him back than for what he left us for? Michael Turner also left on a free transfer many years ago...
I just hope this frees up some space on the wage bill to be able to bring a new striker in.

You restored my faith in charlton by being a signing that was good.

Do they have any ex-SL players in their squad?
