Antisemitism (also spelled Anti-Semitism or anti-semitism) is prejudice against, hatred of, or discrimination against Jews as a national, ethnic, religious or racial group.[1][2] A person who holds such positions is called an "antisemite". As Jews are an ethnoreligious group, antisemitism is generally considered a form of racism.[3]

Atheism is, in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of deities. In a narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities. Most inclusively, atheism is the absence of belief that any deities exist.
So we have the following comment made by cafcnick1992 (and liked by LeaburnforEngland and BR7_ADDICK) -
"Maybe he can have the day off if he brings in one grain of evidence for his God to Bob Peeters. I think that's fair."
So at best, a comment that disrespects one of our players and their beliefs. At worst, an anti-semitic comment that borders on racism.
The irony is that I was supposed to bring my little boys 6 year old friend down the valley in a couple of weeks and he is from an Israeli family (and very excited about seeing Ben Haim play). As long as he isn't about to get his his head kicked in by the Charlton Life anti Jewish community then I still will.
This has really upset me actually.
Dangerous (and a bit extreme imo) to infer that the above posters are antisemitic! Agreed, the post could have been slightly more sympathetic towards Ben Haim's views, although in the interest of equality and balance surely we need to be sympathetic towards the opposing?
This is gonna end up like the JJ debate!
Fair enough - I have edited my comment to suggest that this is inaccurate.
But you would have to see that a Jewish Charlton fan reading what was said would feel very upset and a bit uncomfortable.
And it is fair to say that, for a welcoming family club, it doesnt make me feel particularly comfortable bring a 6 year old jewish child along to a game.

I think the only bit that could be misinterpreted would be 'his god' as opposed to just leaving it as 'god'.
Anyway Damo, back to more important things like whether JJ is good enough in a midfield 2
I'm not sure we really have any religious holidays as such, that's why they are called "public holidays". Although, of course, holiday is merely a modern form of Holy Day. Some religious festivals got subsumed into the whole public holiday thing because it had become common practice to take those days off work. Public holidays are also often referred to as Bank Holidays. This is because the Bank of England was not open on those days. Prior to 1834, the Bank of England observed 33 saints' days and religious festivals as holidays and closed for business. It's a shame we don't have that many now! As recently as the 1970s the BoE also had "sunny offs" which could be translated as meaning "spending the afternoon at home when the weather was nice". Its Newcastle Branch (now sadly closed) also ran with a skeleton staff every afternoon when the "Hoppings" (Europe's largest funfair) was on the Town Moor in June.
And for the record I respect his right to request the day off, and if it's that important to him then he has more than made up for not playing on Saturday through his performances so far this season already.
That doesn't prevent me thinking that in this day and age the concept of millions of people observing these sort of religious events is bizarre and beyond my comprehension - but that also doesn't mean that I'm going to "kick a six year old Jewish boy's head in"... unbelievable.

Precisely, if the little bugger is constantly talking nonsense during the game, you're gonna kick his head in regardless of religious beliefs
It's not anti-Jewish or anti-semetic, indeed it could be applied to any religion. As a throw away comment I thought it was quite funny... but that was all. No sinister undertones meant at all I don't think, either from the comment itself or my sinful act of clicking "like".
If "liking" it has caused offence though then I apologise, although how you go from seeing me clicking like to accusing me of anti-semitism is quite a leap in my opinion and more offensive than the initial comment that started this. I'm not "anti-Jewish"... nothing could be further from the truth... and so I look forward to your apology too.
See above and the change to my quote. Full apology from me. In an upset state of mind I threw out an accusation that was un-substantiated to 3 posters.
I just want to make sure that my sons friend will be welcome at the valley. That is what upset me the most. The irony is that his family were a bit unsure about me taking them to a football game due to some of the bad things you hear flying around, but I basically said The Valley was the most welcoming ground in the country.
That's all I really wanted from you. Not having to justify something that obviously isnt true which I have aimed to correct.

OK ... shall we all "move on"... although a shame you've left the bit in your post about the anti-Jewish Charlton Life community kicking his head in!!

Back on topic... Morrison has to start for me.
Hopefully my new amend will lighten the tone on that front........

Being a Pragmatist and atheist, can't Yom Kippur be moved to the following weekend when there's an International break ? no, thought not, just like every other religion it's so inflexible.
Agree don't want to upset Tal, so he has day off and Morro comes in and shows Bob why he should be playing.
Yom Kippur is the most important day in the Jewish calendar - a day of solemn reflection and atonement for past sins (such as the error at Rotherham which led to their equaliser).
Religious debate aside it's a big loss for the Brum game but if it keeps Tal happy getting his day off for his beliefs then I'm happy too. He's been vital for us this season and it shouldn't do us any real harm as we have two people to cover him.
I'm also thinking Gomez may get the nod instead. Gomez has played more than Morrison this season and he's a CB anyway. Wouldn't mind seeing Morrison start but I'd be surprised considering Bob doesn't even bring him on as a sub and has praised Gomez.
I know people love getting upset and all offended so that they can play the liberal card, but I wasn't being serious and Ben Haim is a teriffic footballer.
Not concerned about him going though - Morrison was my POTY last season
I would think Morro will start, with his strength in the air and experience. As a regular bench player, he does need to play to keep him motivated and match fit.
On the other hand Gomez is more of a ball player so could slot seamlessly into the 'build from the back' passing role that TBH plays. He's not yet as experienced, physically strong or as commanding in the air as Morro - and he may not be fit to play anyway, if he's ricked his ankle last night.

You have to respect someone's right to religious freedom but you don't have to respect their religion. A subtle difference maybe but I don't think anything on here has strayed into dangerous territory. You can be a cynic about religion all you want as long as you also accept that others will require consideration over their views. I hope Tal has a great day off if he does take it.

read as: i realise i was being a total mug earlier but i still want to sound all smug and high and mighty
I'm not going into work tomorrow because Zeus told me on the Thursday of the 40th year, I need to stay at home and play fifa.
Lets see how that goes down with my boss.
Sorry but you are being completely disrespectful of Tal's religious beliefs there. Problem is that if he has been fasting for 24 hours he will be too weak to play.

Interesting to see whether he opts for Morro or Gomez at CB since Solly should be back.

All will be revealed on the day.
I wish him and his family a happy day and hope he returns refreshed.
Will be nice to see Morrow get a run out as well.
I've messaged you, DamoNorthStand
I imagine some of you complaining have taken time off work for much less.
