If true. What's to say it's not written into his contract?
I'm actually pretty sure it's written in every player in this country's contract. I can imagine it's one of the things the PFA make sure that the player's football club has to respect the player's religious holidays.
I'm not going into work tomorrow because Zeus told me on the Thursday of the 40th year, I need to stay at home and play fifa.
Lets see how that goes down with my boss.
I assume you're going into work on Christmas Day?
That is a public holiday though - I have that off, but not for religious reasons.
Why do you think it's a public holiday in this Christian country?
That is irrelevant, I have it off as it is a public holiday. If it was not a public holiday, I would not be having the day off.
Maybe he's slightly more religious than you?
I wonder how many devout Christians around the country would refuse to work on Christmas Day if a firm asked them to.
let's be clear - I agree with him missing the game for his religious reasons. Was just replying about Christmas Day and that I would not be having the day off for religious reasons.
I respect his decision. Will be happy to see Michael Morrison get his chance to play too.
Likewise... As we've discussed he's put in a big shift for us since joining in the summer...
Wouldnt count your chickens that Morrison will be getting a start though... Bet Morgan Fox may have something to say about it (Seeing when we were protecting leads v Derby and Norwich it was Fox who came on
Maybe he can have the day off if he brings in one grain of evidence for his God to Bob Peeters. I think that's fair.
I cannot believe that I get 3 lol's for highlighting childish religious abuse yet someone makes a comment like this and it doesn't even get flagged?!?!?
What kind of people do we have on this board? That's a disgusting way to speak about one of our players.
Even as an atheist i've got respect other's religious beliefs. Anyone know if Muslim players dont play if Eid falls on a match day?
Many moons ago I was called a racist for daring to mention that muslim Charlton players observed Ramadan. Different players will observe it more strictly than others but people doing hard physical work are allowed to make up the time later so to speak.
Same with Yom Kippur. Pregnant women, children, the sick, etc don't have to fast but for many jews it is the one holy day they observe. It's meant to be about "atonement" and reflection, thinking on your sins, etc.
Eid is a bit different as it is the end of a fast (I think you HAVE to eat on Eid if you are Muslim) so less of an issue with playing sport.
Got no problem with Ben Haim having this time off for Yom Kippur and respect him for sticking to his religious beliefs. I also have no worries about Morrison taking his place on Saturday. Will give Morrison an opportunity to try and stay in the team too. He will need to be on top form though as Bikey and Ben Haim have been excellent to date.
Please tell me people are just trying to prove a point rather than actually being pissed off he's not available?!!!
The blokes been quality for us and has shown he's a valuable asset. I wouldnt wanna upset him and im sure the club and BP feel the same. Morrison will come in with a point to prove, so i dont see it being a problem.
Antisemitism (also spelled Anti-Semitism or anti-semitism) is prejudice against, hatred of, or discrimination against Jews as a national, ethnic, religious or racial group.[1][2] A person who holds such positions is called an "antisemite". As Jews are an ethnoreligious group, antisemitism is generally considered a form of racism.[3]
OR
Atheism is, in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of deities. In a narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities. Most inclusively, atheism is the absence of belief that any deities exist.
So we have the following comment made by cafcnick1992 (and liked by LeaburnforEngland and BR7_ADDICK) -
"Maybe he can have the day off if he brings in one grain of evidence for his God to Bob Peeters. I think that's fair."
So most likely, a comment that disrespects one of our players and their beliefs. At worst, an anti-semitic comment that borders on racism (which I am sure it isn't).
The irony is that I was supposed to bring my little boys 6 year old friend down the valley in a couple of weeks and he is from an Israeli family (and very excited about seeing Ben Haim play). As long as he isn't about to get his (EDITED COMMENT INSERTED) *religious beliefs altered by a half time seminar on the benefits of atheism* then I still will.

This has really upset me actually.
Dangerous (and a bit extreme imo) to infer that the above posters are antisemitic! Agreed, the post could have been slightly more sympathetic towards Ben Haim's views, although in the interest of equality and balance surely we need to be sympathetic towards the opposing?
It's not anti-Jewish or anti-semetic, indeed it could be applied to any religion. As a throw away comment I thought it was quite funny... but that was all. No sinister undertones meant at all I don't think, either from the comment itself or my sinful act of clicking "like".
If "liking" it has caused offence though then I apologise, although how you go from seeing me clicking like to accusing me of anti-semitism is quite a leap in my opinion and more offensive than the initial comment that started this. I'm not "anti-Jewish"... nothing could be further from the truth... and so I look forward to your apology too.

Looking at some of the comments on here, some of our supporters would be better off following Millwall frankly.

This is gonna end up like the JJ debate!

If he doesn't play might Solly come back as right back and young Gomez play as centre half?
