  • Really want to see cousins in centre mid on Saturday
  • Tucudean had five decent chances first half. Rarely troubled keeper but gave their defence problems and space for Igor. As fans I think we need to have patience and perhaps give Bob credit for tactics. Big pitch and letting them have ball wide must be part of his plan.
  • Did anyone else think this game could have been fixed for a 1-1 draw? Cos both teams played like it was in the second half.
  • Fourth poor display in a row yet we remain unbeaten. A lot of luck and poor finishing from our opponents has been the main reason we haven't lost.
We keep conceding possession and create little or nothing from the wings. Wolves like Watford and Brighton just battered us and it seems like we concede an endless stream of corners.

Wiggins seems to be struggling in most games and Cousins is ineffective as a wide player. Wilson had a stinker tonight and Jackson let the game pass him by.
Bikey and Ben Haim were reliable as usual and Henderson was very solid. Igor showed some nice touches but had little service.
    Bulot looks promising.
Hopefully we can sort things out.
  • in a lot nicer sense than before this really does feel like the we're still 5th season ...
we're gonna so finish quite a bit lower than there
once again we were lucky and got something from a game that we were 2nd best in
the scum lost so all good but my hoped for enthusiasm and optimism for this mob is slowly draining away
i suppose in 5 games time when tucudean scores or sets one up the wise guys will be back on saying that they were right all along about giving him a chance but unfortunately we can't afford to carry a 1 in 10 player

    0% top two.........3% 3rd-6th.......... 47% 7th-12th.........50% 13th-21st......... 0% Relegation

A point gained. We looked laboured and let Wolves back into the game.If someone had told me they were promotion favourites on their first-half showing,I would have laughed in their face.

As for Wilson not giving 'poor Gomez' enough protection, you need to take off your Academy-tinted glasses: he was poor.

Liked the look of Bulot when he came on,neat and compact,I'd start him over Tucdean. If Igor is injured,we'll be up against it.However, still unbeaten which is no mean feat.
  • Completely outplayed by a very good side. The Championship is going to be a very tough division this season.

On Saturday, having started very well, it might be argued that we then deliberately sat back, conceded possession to a clever Watford side and set out to frustrate them, successfully holding on to we had. Optimistic, but plausible. You couldn't say that tonight though. Tonight Wolves dominated with their power and pace and overwhelmed whatever our game plan was.

We missed Gudmundsson. Buyens struggled and Bikey-Amougou threatened to self-destruct on a number of occasions. The excellent James Henry had Rhoys Wiggins on toast, beating him on the outside and getting his cross in time and again.

A real bright spot was Franck Moussa who was excellent when he came on. Frederic Bulot also looked lively.

Thirteen points from just seven games is a fantastic start. I'm sure we'll improve under Peeters' leadership. He'll have learnt a lot tonight though.
  • We were terrible today. Looked like we didn't want it. Wasn't happy with the performance at all.

The lack of urgency and ideas going forward reminded me of last season. The players looked knackered and we had hardly any shots. The time wasting started in the first half, we were the home team fgs we should have tried to kill it off.

Another striker and Gudmundsson back is 100% needed.

All that being said.. We still haven't lost. I don't know how, but I'm happy with that.

    Onwards and upwards

I'll second this. I didn't enjoy that at all. Against Watford I thought we defended resolutely and showed a different side to our game, tonight I thought we rode our luck big time. I honestly thought 4 players turned up tonight trying to do the work of 11. Those four were Bikey, TBH (yes he made a poor error in the 1st half, but overall solid), Buyens & Vetokele. The rest, pah. The three poorest players on the pitch tonight were Jackson, Wiggins & Tucudean. I'm not buying the Jackson love in from anyone tonight. Absolute passenger. Just a hole in midfield that Wolves were cementing over with ease. Then when he does get his chance (a massive part of why I feel he is in the side, late runs, goals etc) a scuffed shot across the keeper. Wiggins. I've got a lot of time for him and I think he's a great player. I said on Sat that I think he should get the benefit of the doubt as he did well to contain a decent player. However tonight he was real liability material. Tucudean. Again, I still think he needs time, and the goal against Derby plus penalty won makes me think something is there, but he needs to work on that strength. I know he got taken off so you could say he was worse than JJ and Wiggins, but I expect more from them so they get singled out above him.

After that. Cousins, ineffective on the left. Wilson. Sometimes he'll power through, but overall he's a constant reminder of last season. I'm not going to dig Gomez out because he's so young and for the large part did well at the back (couple of errors at the start).

I know I'm being massively over critical here, but just got very agitated with tonight's performance. We missed our first choice right side.

Still massively happy with the season so far and effort of the team. Worried that Vetokele is starting to be marked more closely. Means others have to step up. I know we don't have the squad there to cover the likes of JBG and Solly out, so trying to see the bigger picture. Also probably been spoilt with the start, but uneasy about this possession pattern emerging.

Roll on Rotherham. Let's get back to winning ways

  • Sorry, but I don't get this " still unbeaten " crap. If you play 2 & draw them both , you get 2 points. If you play 2, win won & lose one you get 3 points. I know which I prefer.

and by the way - you could go all season unbeaten & still get relegated.
  • don't think we got to grips with their formation with their wide men hugging the touch lines.

we're almost inviting teams onto us and trying to hit on the counter attack but for the home team, we 'start' defending too deep.

    didn't win enough 2nd balls.

too one paced in central midfield.

Cousins needs to be moved from the left.

Bulot looked useful, give Moussa more time.

very pleased with the points we've already put on the board but Bob needs to tinker a bit.
  • Delighted to be going back to Prague tomorrow still unbeaten. Definitely feared we might lose both these. Tonight was a decent game , against a well balanced and well organised team on a roll. We'd have lost this, this time last season and the reason we didn't is that we have better footballers in several positions. Thought Jacko was good throughout, but I can see the argument that Buyens seems to fade a bit later on in games. Pity, because he is an elegant calm player. Liked the look of Bulot, less sure about Moussa. Agree with others, George doesn't lack effort, but the ball doesn't stick to him and he had good chances tonight which could have knocked the stuffing out of Wolves.

But these are early days, and did I expect to be unbeaten after seven games? Did I hell.
  • As ever great performances down the spine of the team but we missed Gudmundsson...our front six needs a rethink... Cousins not his best position so hopefully he plays more central...hope Bulot integrates quickly and plays where Cousins was tonight...
Tucudean - time to rest on the bench and we either play 4-5-1, Church or loan another striker pronto.
I don't see Rotherham or Boro being the same threat as the last few opponents but we do need to retain possession and make more chances. This season is there for the taking!
That we remain unbeaten now is down to chance - time to re think how we get through to the half way point and stay in the top six - I like it here but our grip is tenuous.

Just back so haven't read any posts.

Disappointed not to have put up more of an attacking fight against a very decent team. OK - we could have scored at least 2 more than we did but then so could they.

Felt our midfield was particularly lightweight tonight and Yoni was poor for the first time this season. And once again, Lawrie failed to take his opportunity to shine ....

The enforced "new" pairing on the right wasn't strong enough for me and George had a mare unfortunately.

The positives as, it seems, always was the defence as a whole with The Beast outstanding once again. Henders proved that Saturday wasn't a one off as he produced several excellent saves. Igor was what Igor is - a handful for opposition defenders and a jewel in our crown. I can't bear to think about an injury ruling him out of our next, or in fact ANY games.

So, we remain unbeaten. And we move on. But I think tonight showed our frailties & lack of real depth in the squad. Big Bob looked a different man as he left the pitch which is to be expected but I'm certain he has learned a lot from this match and will do all he can to regroup & go again on Saturday. Possibly starting tomorrow...

And I hope that "person" who called himself a ref has a major hold up on the M6 tonight. Pillock of the first order.

  • That was definitely a game of two halves. If Tucudean had taken any of the four clear cut chances that he had in the first half we would have won no question .We should have gone in at half time 3-1 up and we were clearly the better team for most of the first 45 mins in terms of possession and goal chances. For much of the second half however we were outclassed but we did have two chances to win it from Jackson and Ventokele after his fantastic mazy run .That would have been very harsh on Wolves who definitely deserved their point.Who on about 90 mins put that fantastic angled ball in for their excellent number 40 and which split our defence and left him one on one with Henderson ? Pass of the game and so fortunate for us that the forward -Dicko ?- just lost control of it and it ran out for a goal kick.
  • I tried watching on the stream but only managed to get 30mins of the first half and then 20 mins of the second before it played up. Anyway, most frustrating thing is that the first 5-10 mins we looked strong, think we had one or two attacks where igor looked vicious with the ball on the counter. Disappointed with buyens and wiggins both should bounce back. Regardless echo sentiments of others, wish we could not sit back as much as we do as when we build it up properly we look lethal. All in all, think we in a fantastic position and just require a few tweaks.

Who would you drop? Seems like Jackson can't be dropped and there's no way buyens will be dropped. Looks like the lack of creative centre midfielders we have at the club is once again showing

Tucadean for Harriott IMO. 4-5-1 with JJ supporting Igor
  • Did anyone else think buyens was really poor? Outmuscled by their midfield and very negative

Classic CAFC away formation is a central three in midfield but not sure Peeters will play anything except 4-4-2.
We gave the ball away far too cheaply tonight - as poor as first half vs Brentford away.
  • Questions
    Cousins, wing or not?
    Ben Haim, should he start?
Did we lack a middle of midfield?
  • There were many occasions when we really needed to get the ball forward much quicker than we did. And by that I don't mean going route one the whole time but the number of times we turned inside or went backwards and were caught in possession as a result was ridiculous.

In addition, as well as Henderson played and as solid as he looks, one got the distinct impression he was playing for a draw - and that was from the outset. He needs to learn when to release the ball early and when to hold onto it.
  • I wasn't at the valley tonight my first missed home game this season! but I will say this last season we would possibly lost to Watford (the way there attacked us) and definitely lost tonight so I'm well happy with 4 points from those 2 games and still being unbeaten after 7 games

He was today. I'll forgive him after the start he's made though.
  • Fitness a big problem and there is a reason to that, we are ball chasing for a lot of games. Of course that's going to tell in the latter stages. It's all well and good not losing, and it's been a good start to the season but we need to freshen the team up a bit, Bob seems to be afraid to go against this rigid 4-4-2, why not sack Tucudean off and give a CAM a go in behind Vetokele.

Two things also stick out, if Vetokele gets injured and/or Gudmundsson, as he is now, we will struggle to keep these results pretty.
