Interesting to see the goal at Charlton at number 1 - even ahead of the World Cup header from Blind's cross
  • Shaun Bartlett for me too
Ian Marshall for Oldham always sticks out

Ian marshall was a great goal. all sides of the ground applauded.
Wasn't at that game - anyone got a link?
  • RVPs was his fking shin!!!

    My point exactly
  • Similar to everyone else.
    For: Bartlett
Against: RVP's shin, although Bergers goal was a bit special too
  • Bartlett.
    Kermorgant
    Hales vs Hull '77
Hales vs Bournemouth FA Cup 81
  • Bartlett. The best goal in the top division of English football in an entire season scored at The Valley by an Addick playing for a Charlton team finishing in the top 10.

    Did it really happen?

    I wouldn't f****ng know, I was having a piss.
  • Not sure about it being the best goal but my favourite goal was Danny Murphy vs Birmingham Jan 2005 3rd goal in a 3-1 win.

A fantastic breakaway goal starting with Dean Kiely and culminating in a through ball from Jeffers to Murphy which he hit first time into the corner of the net, all in six touches from end to end.

For pure technique in a Charlton shirt I can't see past Kermorgant's far post chip vs Hartlepool - just summed up the season.

Against Charlton i'd have to say even though he shouldn't have been on the pitch and whether it was off his shin or not that RVP volley was something else.

  • Izale McLeod vs. Exeter - September 2009
  • Shaun Newton at home to Huddersfield around 95/96 I think a 20 yard bullet header from the corner of the box.

    Berger for Pompey

Van Persie is probably the best goal I've seen live. Shin or no shin it was quality. Another one is D'Alessandro.

Best Charlton goal? Maybe El Karkouri free-kick vs Arsenal. Or Bartlett.

  • Robin van Persie should never have been on the pitch to score that goal. Got away with a horrible foul earlier in the game

    Jon Fortune

    Which one????
  • Trevor Francis in Bob Bolder's testiomonial. 30 yard shot, was right behind it and have never seen a ball hit crisper.
  • Shaun Bartlett for me too
Ian Marshall for Oldham always sticks out

Marshall was playing for Ipswich that day.

Solskjaer's tap in after Giggs' stupendous effort hit the bar kinda had me thinking wow.

    Bartlett for us.

Agree with this Giggs had Dean Kiely beaten from half way only to see his effort bounce back of cross bar. Solskjaers follow up was more than a tap in though and was typical of his finishing!

Lol I was gonna say both of those too spot on
  • The next one.
  • Probably not the best for many but the one that sticks in my mind was Peter Garland's piledriver against Bolton.
I was about 14 and Charlton obsessed. I was right behind it in the Covered End.
    A proper thunderbolt.

Rvp best I've seen sadly. Twat shouldn't have been on the pitch either after kicking out at hasselbaink if recall. Although to be fair to the ref hasselbainks arse probably eclipsed half the pitch.

Has to be Treacy/Derby/18 Jan 69. From (faltering) memory - he received the ball deepish on the left, took it forward and then fired it out to the right to ?Curtis who raced on with it and smashed in a low, hard cross to just around/behind the D where the onrushing Treacy in full stride met it perfectly on the volley to send an unstoppable shot rocketing past the keeper into the Covered End goal. Broke 75 mins of deadlock in a pulsating table-topper witnessed by 30K (final score 2-0). For Gawd's sake can some kind soul please find the link and put it up on here ??!!

    Honourable mentions:
Hales/Hull/09 Oct 76. Beautifully worked goal violently finished into the Covered End goal. Made it 2-0 (final 3-1). Won the ITV goal of the season.
Newton/Hudds/09 Apr 97. Late-ish in an average season, a lively but inconsequential game was distinguished by a fabulous display by the Hudds keeper. They were down to 10 before half-time but nonetheless equalised with a quarter hour to play. The goalie continued his unbelievable heroics, but around the end of normal time a flat, high-speed head-high cross was met by Newton on the edge of the box and well to one side of the goal with an absolute cannonshell header that flew into the Covered End goal just under the bar. Greatest header ever, apart from J.Fortune, R.Rufus, etc
Bartlett/Leicester 01 Apr 01. Fabulous long ball from Stuart met with a stupendous volley into the Covered End goal. Came late with the match standing at 1-0, in a mid-table season. MoTD goal of the season.
Kermorgant/Smurfs/05 May 12. Stunning piece of skill late on with the full-house match standing at 2-2. Already champions. Er, Covered End again.

Oppo goals: been too many of them and each and every one too painful to think about ....

  • Shaun Newton in the play off second leg against Ipswich, great goal and a great occasion.
  • Stoke in the League Cup when we were in the Prem, and their left midfielder (who was Scandanavian I believe), advanced from his own half and hit a beauty into the top corner from what seemed like 45 yards. I think that Sasa Illic was in goal, and he never bothered moving. I was right behind it, and it looked like a perfect 2/3 iron that just gaining pace and height evenly. Think we lost that game as well.

Thought Treacy's volley was further out than that but I was only very young so things seemed bigger and further in those days!
Just remember the pace of it and, as you say, the significance as we were chasing promotion. It was a blistering shot - the pace and perfection had to be seen to be believed.
If you recall, Treacy scored a similar, if not better goal away at Palace - think it was the same season and possibly from further out?

There have been plenty of fantastic goals but I think that was probably the best shot I have ever seen. Just because it came out of nowhere and was unstoppable. I think they won 4-3.

Graham Moore against Norwich City after a one-two with Luciano Masiello. Still the most violently struck shot I have ever seen.
