    Anyone know where Mussa was?

    Sent to Coventry

  • Tomas Cywka was absent from the line up at Welling today.

Was he the player with his ankle in plaster or has he left the club?
  • What a load of utter, utter rubbish. How long have I been banging on about our vacuous midfield? - Two full seasons at least. Today at Welling when we made a defensive clearance, the ball would drop ten yards outside our box and there was never one single red shirt to claim it. We simply watched while Welling spread the ball wide to swing crosses over - or advance centrally, at will. Who, exactly, are our midfielders? Entirely vapid.

I think there is something even worse than this absence. When we attacked in the second half, our man with the ball at his feet would approach the box diagonally, be confronted by a Welling defender - and pass to the wrong man. This simple ten-yard pass was received with our customary lack of control - lack of basic technical ability - the ball bobbled up off his foot and the Welling defender cleared easily. Yet there was a man of ours unmarked ten yards the other way, open and willing to receive and get clear.

This exemplifies what is wrong at Sparrows Lane - our players have not been trained to make the right decisions. At speed with the ball approaching the box - should he pass left or right? Quickly. He passes the wrong way.

There were all the usual nervous sideways passes, over-hit crosses, long balls to nowhere, and strikers immobile. We have lost 2-0 to a team three divisions below us.

    This was absolutely bloody ghastly.

Viewfinder you might be on to something there!
  • I doubt it as people thought it could be moussa, you'd have to have shocking eyesight to mistake the two.
  • Apologies if it has been mentioned elsewhere but why we're playing in last seasons kit?! We were wearing the new one in Belgium so no idea why we would wear the old one today?!

I was thinking maybe its been packed ready for spain trip

Only have limited new kits foor players and they are in the kit van being driven across to Southern Spain.

limited kit?! A professional football club which has the biggest sporting brand of them all as their kit supplier should be more than able to supply 22 versions of a kit.

Anyone tell me what was the point of that f'ing stupid pitch invasion at the end?

All started by one twat jumping on the pitch quickly followed by a couple of hundred. Nice way to treat our annual hosts pitch before the season starts. Clubs like welling struggle like mad to pay for their pitch maintenace, only to have it fucked up by a bunch of twats "aving a larf". Kind of expected it from the teenagers, but saw plenty of fully grown blokes out there who should know better.

And before people shoot me down for being a kill-joy, how would you honestly feel if we were hosting a friendly (on our nice new pitch) and all the away fans thought it would be a giggle to trample on the turf?

    Rant over.....................

  • The Welling penalty.
  • The keepers at it as well , how small can he make himself trying to save that , I mean nice stretch and spring
  • Some of the knee-jerk bed-wetting on here is cringe-worthy.

This is not even a proper game FFS, we played two different mix and match teams in each half and never put anything like our first choice XI out at the same time.

    Perspective, please.

    Firstly. were you there ?

Secondly. Are you saying that a SQUAD of CHAMPIONSHIP players are not expected to beat a TEAM of players from the CONFERENCE (4 leagues lower). Is was only a friendly, not a cup tie & there was nothing at stake. So why did we look 4 leagues LOWER than them.
Thanks for proving my point for me about hysterical over-reaction.

It's July 13th - the season doesn't even start for another month - and we are still bringing new players into the squad.

So, how about we wait and see what develops over the next month and go from there?

I just don't see the point in getting so ridiculously worked up over the result of a bloody pre-season friendly.

FFS we won the same fixture 5-0 last year and then started the season terribly.
I think that there is a bit of knee jerk over reaction going on here but that is mostly against a few critical posts about the performance and defeat against Welling.

It is the worst result against Welling in 24 seasons and it is not surprising that people are commenting on that. I am not sure why you are getting so worked up TBH.
  • I was in regents park yesterday and forgot about this game.

    Wow.

As for people saying if we had won 5-0 people would say don't get over excited because they are a very easy opponent, I agree entirely, conversely, when you lose 2-0 to a team like that, I think you have the right to be a tad worried.

Jand Jack Munns was our best player

Stopped reading there lol.. Get the ball, turn and pass it, chuck in a few long balls, very mediocre performance. He also chases shadows as a form of marking, not beefy enough to get stuck into a tackle which you need in centre park. No way anyone in that first half was our best player let alone Jack Munns.

I wouldn't put him near a Charlton Championship squad, I'd loan him lower down the leagues and see how it goes from there.

Exactly . Of all the things that worried me about yesterday ,and there were a number ,principally it was the fact that apparently so much time ,effort and money has been invested in a player coming through the academy who is clearly never going to be a footballer of any note because he is far too small. Skilful ,eager and unlucky with a Pigott hospital pass that drew a crippling challenge yes but FFS a midget ! Hopeless .

  • Jack Munns came through the Spurs Academy and they released him. We then picked him up.

Thanks I didn't know that about him as he appeared to be a young player coming through our youth team , I would love to know however who decided that he should be picked up as I would be very worried about their judgment of a young player who it was hoped might develop into a first team candidate with us.

Tsk, worse than that Dutch keeper.

  • Buyers reminded me slightly of Jensen. Think he could be a key player for us this season.

You always wonder what goes on at Sparrows Lane, now you know what's wrong at Sparrows Lane. I can only presume in the last week or so, you've been to Sparrows Lane????

    Just got back.

I know, it's about fitness, only a friendly, early days, don't read anything in to it, we have only been back for two weeks, different team each half, players getting to know each other, playing away after all, Welling have been in full time training for six weeks.

Full time truing for 6 weeks !!!!

    Really
  • Any word on Moussa? Think he could be great for us. Would be gutted if he's picked up an injury
  • where is polish pete?

Granted the tubes taking penalties and bundling the stewards were pretty feckless but I let my kids go on and they got JJ and LW to sign their shirts.
To be fair Lawrie was a legend dealing with tonnes of kids wanting autographs and photos at the end as all the other players cleared off proper fast, even mystery ankle cast man.
