Didn’t realise that Kompany was such a prick!
  • Ouch. Amazing that he left us 8 years ago.
  • If he does that at Bayern he'll be gone by January.
  • I can’t access it, what’s happened?
  • I can’t access it, what’s happened?
A football manager shouted at a player during training.

    I would've thought so.

Although if you're Johnny Williams maybe it's less expected.

    I'd say that's mildly underplaying it   :|

"That's fucking shit, I'm fed up with the fucking moaning, fucking play!"  Sounds like a lovely working environment
Flashbacks to my days attending home games...

assuming he can swear in German .. anyway his appointment at Bayern is a strange choice .. they must be desperate
  • And it speaks volumes that he wound down his contract and left in the summer, then once it was confirmed Kompany was in at Bayern, JBG suddenly signed on for another year

To be honest, we don't know Kompany and JBGs relationship as manager and player, or what lead to that outburst. We are only seeing one side of what's happened, which admittedly, doesn't look great.

To play devil's advocate, if you do the opposite to Kompany, and don't raise your voice at all, and don't try and instill some discipline, those players will walk all over a manager. Seen it in multiple different working backgrounds, don't see why it would be any different in a premier league environment.

Unfortunately, the harsh approach is far more effective than a kind approach.

I didn't think Kompany was that sort of manager so I'm surprised the personal grief he gave to JBG. There's a fine line between being a bully and getting your point across in a trenchant manner.
That is the former and it's good to see Johann show some balls despite the consequences when you can be put with the kids until the manager leaves and there's fuck all you can do about it other than put in a transfer request or wait for your contract to be up.

Was the video only put out since VK left ?
I would imagine so as I thought Kompany was a cool guy who led by example not a angry swearing manager.

Nathan Jones is very vocal but I would be amazed if he would emulate Kompany's behaviour.  Sure you need discipline in a professional football environment or else grown men act like children but that was totally out of order. Burnley were so short last season he was trying to get blood from a stone.
I assumed he was good cop and the golf club swinging Bellamy was the bad cop. Perhaps it was the other way round after seeing that video 🤔
  • I am absolutely sure that NJ is capable of a similar outburst and I am all for it.

You're hoping to tone it down this season then?

If a player's moaning loads and underperforming then calling him out for being shit and moaning is fair enough - the language used is standard in football but would obvs be OOO in an office.  An erudite and verbose takedown of an Icelander by a Belgian in a 2nd language for both of them is expecting too much.

Think there is a fine line though. Getting your point across to players is fine - and part of the job. But his carry on there was way over the top. The only disappointment for me was that JBG didn’t nut him. Mind you with the size of Kompany’s head it probably wouldn’t have made any difference.
  • Comes across as an absolute c_nt in that short clip, but there's no context so who knows the full story. JBG doesn't look/sound too impressed or too bothered (that's a problem) so Kompany just ends up looking like a bit of a dickhead! Amazed he went to Bayern after a bit of a disaster last season. Will be really interesting to see how he handles it over there. I don't give him long tbh.

Of course he can be angry and animated but I don't think he would pick on one person like that.
If anyone has seen NJ do that then...  He would be at confession all day on Sunday if he did !
Nathan at confession long enough already with a few swear words, probably more at the officials.

If you see footballers as commodities and not human beings then I can see why.

I don't mean by being weak like some timid supply teacher but that was just a man out of control and no wonder the Burnley players appeared to throw the towel in last season.

I was at an FA cup tie, way down the pyramid two Saturdays ago and there was nothing in the game and the team from the lower division lost by the odd goal in 3 and one dressing room was celebrating like they had won the FA cup and the other manager was effing and blinding. Why Part time footballers earning a couple of hundred pounds put up with that shit is beyond me especially as they had played well other than one defensive mistake (yes I know how much strikers can earn with a benevolent owner even in the Isthmian league)

Jason Pearce told me how tough it was at Pompey when he was was in an academy and how different he has to treat the 16 and 17 years at CAFC academy compared to the old school coaches he had.
I think he prefers it now but I can't swear to it !
I wonder if Portsmouth was where Jason learnt to rugby tackle 🤔

Gudmundsson left Burnley in the summer, then re-joined when Konpany left. I think that says it all about their relationship
It's also telling that Burnley wanted to resign him. If JBG had been a waster, then even without Kompany being there they wouldn't have taken him back.

    Wigan warriors!!

  • I can't believe that it's been 10 years.
  • The first bit is a lot, and it seems like coaches (?) watching even found it a lot. But when he goes back and starts yelling "it's life or death," I think that's going to get you a lot of eye rolls at Bayern. Kompany is clearly bright, articulate, and passionate, and I would think he's better than looking like an '80s lower league manager.
  • Looks like Kompany’s playing up for the cameras to me. If anyone’s watched Welcome to Wrexham, Parky is constantly shouting and swearing, yet I dont remember him being remotely like that when he was with us and no cameras were around.
