I see that he played 10 games for Standard last season (presumably as back up to the regular central defenders), so he should be fine if he has a decent pre-season with us. The one year deal gives Gomez and Lennon time to develop, without putting them under undue pressure.
No doubt a warm welcome awaits him at Fratton Park in three weeks, but he's big and ugly enough to deal with all that - indeed, it is likely to bump up the gate and generate a little extra 'edge' to the occasion ( ! ).0 -
Welcome. Happy enough with this. Better than Wood.0

Is it just me or is that "bump" word becoming a CL favourite ?Blucher said:I see that he played 10 games for Standard last season (presumably as back up to the regular central defenders), so he should be fine if he has a decent pre-season with us. According to Wikipedia he signed a two year deal with Liege in 2013 so I guess we've just taken on the responsibility of honoring that deal. It, to me. looks like a win, win for the 'network'. I suspect he wasn't going to play much there yet he will probably make a contribution to our season.
Maybe this network idea can work, sometimes.0 -
Nobody who has said things like "reserving judgement" and "not happy about this" has actually stated why exactly they feel that way.
Is it just because he is a player who has been about a bit? Or because some people don't entirely agree with what happened at Portsmouth? Think some are suggesting that this would automatically make him a poor signing for us, which it isn't.
This is the smallest club he has ever played for, so he must have some pedigree about him that we can make use of.0 -

Yes, Fanny, it is becoming insidiously planted in our sub-consciousness. There will definitely be a 'bumpy ride' for Tal Ben down at the south coast, but he's a big lad and a bit of abuse won't trouble him1
-
Potentially great signing - one/two years warming up Gomez's place in the team whilst imparting his wisdom and finally plugging one of our weakest positions on the pitch.0
-
Welcome TBH. He's an experienced international defender who I'm sure Joe Gomez and Harry Lennon will learn a lot from.0
-
Welcome TBH - that's our No. 26 sorted then...0
-
WTF has he done in the last 3 years? He'll only be used when we are absolutely desperate (I hope).0

oh no, is-it-real? hopefully this one year (deal) will come and go swiftly...0

Well he has come to the wrong club if he thinks he's getting a bumper pay day!Nadou said:My Pompey supporting mate's reaction - "This guy if absolutely filth! Good luck with him, he cares about one thing....££££££££££££££"
Which then makes me think that perhaps he still wants to play football at a decent level and wants to compete for a starting role. Wishful thinking?0 -
Funny how the Pompey fans didn't care about where the money was coming from whilst in the prem. Fans want the club to sign the best players they can get. The best way of securing these players is by offering a lucrative contract. So when the club turn round 12 months later and say "We can't afford to pay you that amount anymore", are the fans stupid enough to think that the players should agree to this out of some sort of loyalty? The club are solely to blame for the mess they're currently in, not the players..................GretnaGreenAddick said:

When you say it slowly... Ben-Haim doesnt sound too different to Ben Hamer (When we used he name for the same song) so reckon that will workhawksmoor said:But more to the point, 'He comes from Is-ra-el, he f*cking hates Millwall'. It *could* work.

"Boro agree deal

- oh good, boro gazumped us for tbh.-5 -
Good experienced back up to have. I like this. Will give competition to Morro and Bikey.
I would say a good solid goalkeeper with a bit of experience is the priority now.0 -
With Ben Haim & Ghoochanejhad in the side we should have a fourth kit called the Gaza strip8
-
Seen him play for the west spam on a few occasions. A complete nut case who wants to win. I think the fans will warm to him once they see how committed and passionate he is.
COYR.
Welcome TBH1
