  • Is there someone of the Super Clive Mendonca type around? By which I mean a player who's tried and tested at the lower level but plays for an unfashionable team so might be available for sensible money?

    Pope.

Goalkeepers usually don't score that many goals.;0)

  • Tom Pope Port Vale Centre forward battering ram Centre Forward we don't possess. Scored fifty odd goals for Port Vale in about 140 games.

  • Firstly I know nothing but I keep reading these lists of very British players and can't help thinking that lots of you will be very disappointed.

Think "the network" will feature in our signings but the mistakes made by RD in underestimating the standard required will not be repeated. I'm sure value and potential will feature strongly but I'm hoping that a few proven top quality players are also added.

I doubt that those advising over acquisitions even know who Sam Baldock is.

Phil Chapple is advising so he would know and he has spent some time recently at the other clubs in the network.
  • Reda Johnson, Emmanuel Ledesma, Paddy McCourt please

    Stevie May!

  • Keep all our existing players but keep them from injury and keep them consistent.
    Hamer
    Solly. Dervite. Morrison. Wiggins
    Wilson. Cousins. Poyet. Harriotts
    Sordell. Parzsysek
That is a team that is top ten worthy, the bench however is muchmweaker.

Defoe (Deffo! THIS! Averaging 3 goals in 4/5 games throughout his career, that'd do me!

    I don't think we'll get Defoe. ;-)

Pretty prolific but is he championship quality

  • Any two of Alan Judge, Paul Coutts or Stephen Gleeson to sure up the midfield.

Michael Keane on a season loan would be nice to partner Morrisson/Dervite

Chris Woods on loan maybe unrealistic but exactly the type of player we need

  • Dyer is being released by Leicester and is be just what we need.
  • I hear there is a RM called Danny Green who could be available on a free transfer, might be with a punt lol

Worth finding out, imho - only 21 so has time on his side, too.

This is a great shout. Whenever I catch a glimpse if Scottish Prem highlights he is scoring.

Hair wise he would fit in well with Poyet and Wilson...

Amazing that he's 21 - he looks like a fat middle aged rock star

First of all I think it's pivotal that we sign up Hamer, Morrison, Dervite and Poyet on new long term deals and all four should be in the 18 man squad in August. Astrit would also be wonderful if he can get himself match fit.

Other than that, this is a short-shortlist of players I would look to sign if I was in anyway involved with the squad rebuild this summer:
    -Jos Hooiveld
    -John Brayford
    -Sean St. Ledger
    -Elliot Ward
    -Oguchi Onyewu
    -David Edgar

    -Lloyd Dyer
    -Chris Eagles
    -Max Gradel
    -Andre Moritz
    -Isaiah Osbourne
    -Jacob Mellis
    -Harry Arter
    -John Eustace

    -Billy Sharp
    -Federico Macheda
    -Ishmael Miller
    -Chris O'Grady
    -Matt Fryatt

Here are other players mentioned on this thread and why I don't think we should sign them/or signing them is not realistic:

Harry Maguire is unlikely to move to us. Not to mention a large transfer fee when we already have a young and upcoming CB in our squad for next season. We need an extra experienced head in the centre of defence for next season. Michael Keane is I think likely to want to return to Blackburn who are, after a stable season by their standards, look in a strong position to challenge next year.

Not sure Judge, Coutts or Gleeson are the kind of signings we need to make this summer. I feel the same way about Freeman, Odubajo and possibly Callum Wilson. They'd give us depth maybe but we need some definite improvements upon what we already have to move up the league. One or two cheaper gambles from lower leagues would be okay but we can't fill our squad with expensive players who come with national reputations. See also: Assombalonga, Bostwick, Tommy Rowe, Kieran Agard and Dean Cox

I imagine Chris Burke will want too much money on too long a contract for the direction RD wants to take. If we can come to an agreement with him, he's worth a couple of years. Lee Tomlin I would've signed last summer but he only transferred to Middlesbrough in January so is unlikely to be on the move again six months later. Especially as he's been successful there.

I think the ship has sailed on Baldock and he would now be an expensive gamble. Chris Wood will, I imagine, stay at Leicester and will only be deemed surplus to requirements if he doesn't make the step up. Maybe someone who could become available in January on loan. Players such as Troy Deeney, Glenn Murray and even Johnny Russell just aren't going to come to us at the current time.

Players I haven't mentioned are usually ones I don't really know much about so haven't commented.

  • A couple of strikers are a must. Always worth looking at the relegated clubs and O'Grady has done well - not prolific but a good footballer, with excellent hold up play. Bound to be a number of Championship clubs in for him.
  • Not sure O'Grady fits into the young and hungry mould, over 30 I think. Plus the other week it looked like he was carrying a bit of timber. Type of player we need though.

O'Grady is 28 and only a month older than Billy Sharp and Matt Fryatt.

I'd love to see one Scott Parker back at The Valley. He would be magnificent.

He'll be there when we beat Fulham.

Are you implying we should replace the height test with the hair test?
