  • Reza's clever twisting and turning gains us a lot of free kicks as they can't deal with him
    He's getting better every game
Are the goals on here anywhwere?

Oh come on, he dives for every single one of them!
  • Great result last night. Hopefully Wilson can come back Saturday with the protective mask and push Morro back where he belongs.

At half time I thought there were goals in this so put some cash on the 3-2....happy days. I though the crowd did well at times last night and loved that Riga was telling us to get louder.

I have to say Sordell had a cracker of a game. Well played mate keep the work rate up.
  • Very welcome 3 points.

Whilst it was not the best performance I've seen from us this season I thought we won the game through having more quality than them at key times (AA's goal, the end of the 1st half and 25 mins of the 2nd).

We were lucky, during our wobbly 25 min 1st half spell, to only concede 1 goal. Morro was uncomfortable all night and needed a lot of help. To be fair to AA he did realise this, had a chat with JR and then switched with Cousins. The right side looked far less fallible after that.

We'll probably lose Saturday but I feel we'll comfortably stay up because there's simply too much quality in the team.

This is a game we may not have won under Powell but possibly JR's calmness helps in these sort of battles.
  • Massive game, massive three points. My 30th today and feel brilliant. Well done everyone involved in last night, from the players right down to the stewards and ball boys :)
  • we were poor. Team wasnt set up right. Did Hammer slip for their first or dive a week early ? and where was he going for their second? has played very well lately so forgive him (just).

a win is a win and we will take them in what ever form they come in.

It was a very very Charlton like performance.
  • Just about recovered now...but two awful goals. What on earth was Morrison doing at right back....like a fish out of water, felt sorry for him. But we are not out of the woods yet, fudge up on Saturday (which, let's face it is a tough game) and we will be right back in it. Think Tuesday night will be massive, but guess that's obvious. Yet another fantastic game from Poyet, was there a blade of grass the kid did not cover? A future international, hope it's with England!
  • We all dream of a team of centre halves...

Cort, Morro, Wood and Dervite all on for the last few minutes!

Should have been a comfortable win for us but in typical Charlton style we make life hard for ourselves and end the game praying for the final whistle. Morro was woefully inadequate at RB but at least he has the excuse of being out of position. Not sure what Hamer's excuse for last night's performance was though! Absolutely dreadful kicking and looked to be at fault for the 2nd goal. Couldn't do much with the 1st though as it was yet another deflection. Wonder how many deflected goals we've conceded this season?

As SCP would say, we move on.
  • no need to add to what's already been said.

thought Cousins, Poyet & Sordell (2nd half) were stand outs.

hope Wigan get hammered in the semi now.

  • Really enjoyed the game and atmosphere last night. Reza and AA have given the side some much needed creativity but IMO one lacks bottle and the other fitness. Jackson is still creaking about on those old legs but his leadership and quality dead balls at set pieces are becoming crucial. Wilson was missed at RB and it unsettled the entire defence, also robbed us of an attacking threat. Blackpool away on the last day is looking massive at this point. I think we'll get a point at Brighton and beat Barnsley. Then it's anyone's guess. COYR
  • I think it's highly likely and gutting that we may not see Chris Solly again period
  • Morrison did well. Another consideration would've been having his extra height and it can't be ignored that all of our centre backs won important headers against a pretty big team.

Agree with the view that Poyet was excellent. This was his best performance yet.
  • I've got a really good feeling that we'll be safe by Blackpool and a Blackpool win will relegate Millwall.

  • That was utter crap but to be fair, not the sort of crap I was expecting.

It was entertaining, disorganised, unpredictable crap with loads of chances, errors and end to end stuff. Almost the complete opposite of very other home performance this season. We looked like an Ostende Under 11's outfit at the back.

All credit to Yeovil Town who were positive, aggressive and attacking and made a great game of it with direct running and some pacey one touch attacking.

Biggest plus for me was the 100% commitment and guts from us in the last ten minutes throwing bodies in the way etc. No lack of spirit in that squad.

Agree with the poster who said get down to the Valley now just to see Poyet while we still have him. Does he ever have a bad game? Disagree with poster knocking Reza. He is lightweight but the only forward we have with the skill and technique to worry/concern an opposition coach and for that reason he should start every game.

  • The covered end goal mouth is clearly not in good condition, Hamer slipped in the lead up to their first goal, and other defenders slipped in the first half. Maybe we need to kick the wrong way in the first half, and let the opposition defenders dry it out a bit!
  • Yes I know, I thought it was Sheffield Utd all over again!! :/

So general conception is, weak at the back as usual, had a bit of a mardy after 1-1 but ultimately three points which were much needed?!

The usual has been us being fairly tight at the back, 5 CS in the last 8 games, but not posing any threat up front, so tonight was the complete opposite of our usual performances!
Yes I meant front. I was thinking about the back because of people's comments about Dervite.

    Sarcasm appreciated!

  • Just watched the highlights. Who was it that AA legged it over to celebrate his goal with on the touchline? Was that Hughesy? Also, anyone notice AA limping really badly at the final whistle?
  • To the poster asking why Morro was right back, it was because Wilson was injured.

Morro knew if he went on the overlap he didn't have the pace to get back if it broke down, which meant the man on the ball had no options time after time in that area.

Riga putting Reza out wide and bringing Jacko in going 4-5-1 changed that and won us the game. Started winning the midfield battle as soon as the second half started, actually strung a few passes together and reaped the rewards.

    Good stuff Jose.

This doesn't explain the second goal though, which was even worse.

Fella I sit next to knows a relative of Solly. He definitely won't be back this season, sadly.

  • I was so worried about this game that I actually had a nightmare that we lost 0-2 against Palace(?!) and Charlton Life was flooded with negative comments and eventually went down. When I woke up this morning and saw the result on my mobile phone, three goals, a victory, I almost had to pinch myself to make sure I was not still dreaming.... A truly big Well Done to the team and Jose. This win totally made my day.

Haven't been much this season as live in Ipswich but was a little shocked at what I saw last night compared to the many games I saw last season.
First thing I noticed was the pitch - enough said?
Thank God for Diego Poyet - 18 years old and looked three levels above the rest of the team. His work rate and reading of the game was incredible - sadly, too incredible as we need to keep him and will find it difficult to do so.
A real positive for us, anyway and well done Chris Powell for giving him first team footie at the right time.
Great header from Dervite (and an equally great corner to find him), good, clever work from Reza for the Sordell goal - Poyet again sublime in setting up the move with great vision.
Reza looked lazy and overweight, at this level strikers have to play defender at times when not in possession and at least hold the ball up - neither he or Sordell achieved this but on the odd occasion they did, the lack of movement was such that they achieved nothing but a back pass.
Astrit Ajdarevic certainly has quality but, again, looks heavy and needs more matches & fitness - would like to see how quick he actually can be when fully fit and up to speed with the rest of the squad.
The defending of both Yeovil goals was embarassing and at 3-1 and all over them we didn't seem to know whether to stick or twist. We should have killed them off as we had them on the ropes.
At 3-1 we looked like a different team for a while and so that bodes well now we have the win under our belt and having scored 3 goals.
Was squirty bum time at 3-2 but I drove home to Ipswich feeling a lot better about the world!

    Poyet is 19.

PS squirty bum time sounds painful, you should get that checked...
  • No 19 years and 1 day:)

Squirty bum time, I know that feeling.
I shat my pants when Harriott tried to dribble out of our penalty box in stoppage time.
