Joining West Ham? He's barely moved up. I won't lie I'm upset about this, initially I was tentatively supportive, thinking he was going to a much bigger stage, but West Ham? Shows how little he thought of Charlton. Shame on him.

Sorry but I disagree West Ham are an established Premier League club with a much, much bigger fan base than us, a much higher profile, a much bigger transfer budget, a much bigger wage budget and historically won much more than us.
We had our little stint where we were above for a while but lets not act as if we are anywhere near the size club that West Ham are whether you like them or not.
Its a step up that he could realistically make instead of one where he would rot in the reserves.

What ever you are on, please send some my way. How much bigger a stage than te premier league is there ?

He stayed at Charlton as we'd give him a chance in the first team if he was good enough. He's now gone to a club in the Prem who shouldn't be fighting relegation and he has a decent chance of playing regularly.
It's a good move for him and as much as I didn't want him to go it's better than seeing him follow Kasey Palmer etc to the top clubs where he'll probably neve play for the first team.
i'm beginning to think if the internet existed back in the late 80s there would no longer be a CAFC. "Move on, the valley's gone!" "lets combine with crystal palace, might be a smart business move, our owners are successful businessmen lets not forget".
Nothing will ever convince me Poyet moving isn't disgusting full stop, let alone to a localish rival and one who i'd say are the same size and who play horrendous football, albeit in the premier league.
Championship footballers get paid an extremely good living these days, let alone prem footballers. The "make money while he can" argument for me is complete and utter BS and anyone who is trying to convince themselves otherwise are deluded.

Would you or would you not change jobs if someone offered you much more money and better prospects?
You would imagine that being voted player of the year would be of benefit to the club in any fee negotiations. That and the size of the contract Poyet was offered and how it compares to others in the squad. I think the club should be looking for a big sell on clause at the expense of up-front cash if they can get it.
Kentaddick - I would be interested to hear your views on how we are of a similar sized club to West Ham. I would love to wind my West Ham mates up with it but IMO West Ham score higher than us in all the criteria i regard with "being a big club"
While there's no doubt that money talks and Wham will be paying loads more than us, if you are absolutely NOT 'greedy' but professionally ambitious you would easily justify moving to them - especially as he stands a chance of first-team action...
As for loyalty, it's a bonus rather than an expectation, and as others have said, it cuts both ways. Did we offer him a long-term this time 12 months ago?

They won the World Cup and we won the Guinness soccer 6 cup. Everyone in the world knows about Guinness.

Also it's being assumed he just blew us off without any consideration, which I doubt is true. We have no idea what his motives were and if he felt like he owed us something and if it was difficult for him to make. Ultimately he's responsible for his life/career only and had to make a decision. Time will tell if it was the correct one for him but on the face of it, probably is.

Must be on a wind up. No one that says West Ham are the same size as Charlton can be taken seriously.
Their crowds are double ours, so on that basis you might as well say West Ham are the same size as Man U.

we won the people's cup and we have a stadium coming on the peninsula (promise, love Slater & TJ xxx)

oh not these two fackin arguements again.
Pritchard we gave a chance to become a pro footballer, he didn't grab it here but he'll almost certainly become one at another club. Do you really think he'd have thought he'd be a pro footballer right now back in 2010?! Gower has had a long career and played in the premier league in the modern era. Jordan cook we didn't give much of a chance to but we still invested wages and resources into him and when some one isn't delivering what you're paying for and when their contract is up they should go.
As for given "better oppurtunities and pay" if i was trained by a company for 7 and a half years, worked 6 months and was then promised a pay rise to £500,000 a year, i might think they'd be absolutely livid with me if i went to a larger company just round the corner to do the job youve spent 7 and a half years training and putting money into me.
Honestly, it's like everyone's ignoring most, if not all championship footballers are millionaires or very close to being so.
What's the point of having an academy if they're going to leave straight away on a free transfer (may as well be, compensation only covers the cost of having trained the player).
The whole thing stinks and if you can't see that from the thinly veiled press release from the club about diego leaving and the entire situation then you're living in cloud cookoo land.

I'm not saying its not true, just not seen it officially mentioned anywhere - remember what Henry says.........
