I'm not offering an opinion - but purely wish to point out how ridiculous some of you sound; even those that often sound quite level headed and reasonable.

    Case in point:

We were playing a hugely inexperienced team from a league below. Sorry, there was no excuse for that.

So inexperienced they beat two premiership teams and a higher placed championship team?

    What?
  • Iv had enough of the crap performances get him out !!!
  • I'm pretty gutted and baffled at some of the decisions but I still don't want Powell out, getting rid now just smacks of desperation and a foreign manager would likely come in and may take time to settle. Danny Green on the right annoys me more than Cousins to be honest. AA not starting and Poyet coming off were the main issues I had with him today.

Ok, we should be expecting defeat and limited attacking threat against Sheffield United. A league one team.

So we should be expecting to walk over a team who are high on confidence and have proved on multiple occasions that they can beat teams above us?
  • I would have been satisfied if we could have at least given them a game instead of that shambles.
  • Nope, but I'd expect us to have a chance at least. I don't care what anyone says, the effort and display from the players was on par with Northwich Victoria/Wycombe/Oxford/Dagenham.

You're dealing in extremes here. Unnecessarily so, IMO. we should expect to play a bit better, but to assume we would beat United simply because we are from the division above is remarkably simplistic.

We were 2 inches from taking the lead, and if we'd held it, you'd presumably be as happy as Larry, regardless of the performance, which is only deemed as poor in light of the last 20 minutes and the two goals. It could so very easily have been very, very different.
  • Typical, typical Charlton!

Biggest game for ages, huge following and once again we don't turn up!

If we don't sign a couple of decent players on loan this week, we are down.

Once again the midfield is shuffled around to fit Jackson in the team, playing Cousins on the right does not work! How long will it take for the management to understand that? We are running out of games.

The players get excused far too much. The blame shouldn't be laid at Powell's door, those players went out there and offered nothing. No movement, just the same Morrison-Church long ball that wasn't won once. Poyet had the ball plenty and had absolutely no options in front of him, Church and Tudgay were invisible for most of the game.

Isn't that down to the lack of options? Doesn't seem to rate Nego as a right back. Green and Cook are clearly not good enough.

I'd rather see Cousins RB and Wilson RM, but there must be a reason it's always the other way around?

I have not noticed a Powell love in, a great character, but got it totally wrong tactically today.

Makes me laugh when we can have loads of threads praising Powell but when people slag him off they get deleted !

There's no Powell love in today. Not a single person has said anything in support of him in this match, it's just most people are intelligent enough to realise that if the players show as little effort and determination as they did today it doesn't matter if you have Jose Mourinho or Donald Duck as manager, you won't come away with a result. By just blindly blaming the manager you let the players get off scot-free, and they should not be allowed that today

  • This was nowhere near northwich and wycombe, sheff utd are currently a mid table league one side, and so probably are we

The misery goes on but I have seen far far far worse

I can completely agree with you there to be honest; it's not acceptable to have one chance - and then publicly hang that player out to dry because he couldn't make the most of it. Considering Harriott was one of the better players, has recently come back in the team and is probably trying to gain confidence again... that was low. I expected more from Powell.

I just don't agree with the arrogance of "Their League One and we should've won because of that"; because simply put - they're batting above their league in this cup - and their form in the league is nothing short of amazing considering the way their season has panned out.

I'm the biggest Powell-ite, but honestly - I was baffled on a few decisions:

    1) Ajdarevic not starting
Maybe he's not fit enough for a full 90, but didn't he do the full 90 against QPR and Sheffield Wednesday? He's had a longer rest period this time around too.

    2) Church off for Ajdarevic
We can't attack, and Church can't shoot - but don't take a striker off for a midfielder when we're begging for some more bite up front.

    3) Reza on so late
See above. If you were going to take Church off, make a like-for-like swap. He wasn't to know we were going to concede immediately, but having some fresh legs from a player who can score (and is trying to make an impression) may have allowed us to deal with the aftermath of that goal a bit better - keeping us in the game.

    4) Cousins on the right, again
This doesn't work. Cousins does deserve a place in the team, but not on the right - he's ineffectual there. May actually be better at RB supporting Wilson at RM?

    5) Poyet off, for Reza - and not cousins
Poyet is confident enough to string a pass together, he's shown he can also put in quite a fierce tackle. Why take him off when you have Cousins playing at RM who appears to be struggling in that position? Reza could even support from the RM as he's got experience as a winger too hasn't he?

    Edit
Just noticed Poyet was taken off for GREEN. Taking Cousins off would've been like-for-like, and Poyet seems confident enough with his tackling to counteract Green's inability to defend. I'm baffled even more.

Who is on the pitch? Other fans blaming managers means nothing.

Do you honestly think that group of players playing like that would've won under any other manager/formation? Half of them were dreadful (and playing in their proper positions).
  • This week is Powell's biggest test in management. He has to lift the team to beat Huddersfield and get a result at Millwall.Anything less and we will be cast adrift at the bottom.

Those people are morons. Don't be one of them. Today was a display of total ineptness from the players. I don't agree with some of the choices Powell made. I'd never play Cousins on the right, but then I also wouldn't play Danny Green in the match that requires effort and commitment, and I wouldn't have taken Wilson off. Having said that, you can't plan for Wiggins playing that poorly, you can't plan for the players switching off and seeming over-awed by a L1 team trying quite hard, and once you send the players out you need them to give an account of themselves which to a man they didn't. The game took place on the pitch, and the result was entirely the players' fault. The desire to blame the manager is borne out of an inability to analyse the game and wanting to give yourself an easier time by picking one person. The thing is you can't pick a scapegoat in this match because they were all so terrible

Yes I really do and most people are deluded if you think more experienced managers wouldn't get more out of this team !

"New manager - always does the trick."

I genuinely don't think I've read a more stupid post in the history of CL.

    please enlighten me why?

Didn't realise Church would suddenly turn into a 30 goal a season man and Jackson suddenly turn 25 if Warnock took over! My mistake!

What formation would you go with then? What magic formation would solve all of our problems? It must be obvious if Powell is so clueless for missing it.

Les Reed, Phil Parkinson and Alan Pardew should do it.

Haha who mentioned warnock but if we wanna speak about formations we had a very good centre mid playing right wing ???

exactly - my post, (if Jonnywotsisname had bothered to read it properly), was pointing out how successful Barry Ferguson has done at Blackpool. This after DLT had stated we should get a new manager because of the effect Nigel Clough has had on Sheff Utd......
