I agree, was woeful today but now is not the time to re-ignite the "Powell out" jibes. He and the team need our full support now. There's no one better for the job.

Wow you are so easily pleased.
So tell me, Jonny. What do you want to happen from here, sack Powell? If so, who should we replace him with? Trouble is, those who are discontented with Powell are offering up no real solutions, they're just simply shouting down those who do still support him. Powell in.

I just want to see evidence that the quality and style of play is being improved by what should be happening on the training ground.

If the manager and the staff can't do
It then surely it's the Board's duty
    to appoint a management team
who can. There is nothing progressive in our playing style.

We have to get a new manager in quick, look what Nigel Clough has achieved at Sheff Utd.

and look what holloways done at millwall..
New manager - always does the trick.
I genuinely don't think I've read a more stupid post in the history of CL.
  • I think, with the new owner, we need to buy into his thinking if it's going to be success.

That means a new manager (coach) and a new squad.
  • Can't really criticise Powell"s tactics today because I didn't detect any. If there was a game plan it was simply turn up, run around a lot and hope.

To give Sheffield United due credit they have some good players and are playing with a lot of passion and confidence. They'd have given any Championship side a lot to think about today. However, I doubt that many, if any, would have been as inept as we were. Once again, we looked a very poor side. We can't keep possession and simply don't have any movement.

Warnock would be my choice if Powell went! It least he would instill some spirit in the side which was lacking today and the majority of this season.

Powell quite often gets the tactics and the set up wrong. Today was another one of those days. Jordan Cousins on the right has never worked so why play it today ? Charlton were toothless apart from the Harriot open goal stumble and miss. Charlton do not have the players to play 442 so why play it ? The tactical weakness of Chris Powell alligned with Roland's 'vision' (lack of investment / selling of & non replacement of best striker) is an evil combination that will see Charlton in League one.

Today I blame the players. Every single one bottled it.

    Don't worry.
    Scum next week.

No, Warnock would be a terrible choice. Can you blame Powell for the spirit? Especially taking into account what he's had to contend with this season.
  • Powell could well go on to be a great manager, but at the moment the fit with Charlton isn't right.

  • we have zero creativity, zero, we sold stephens and kermogant, and have not replaced them properly, we are playing the youth team really, he played us deep to contain them, and we waited for a mistake got it and missed, they were doing the same and wiggins switched off and goal, bit of luck for the second then we gave up... we dont have any other options, we dont have any good players really, we will be looking for smash and grabs for the rest of the seasan and hope we stay up, thats it, there is no other game plan, we arent very good as out position shows, and putting in mourinhio isnt gonna change that...

    This sums up what's qrong

  • I hope Powell can get a lot of wins on the trot to revitalise the season. But I think he won't/can't.
Much as I dislike it I think he'll be gone fairly soon.
    I don't know who should/could replace him.

So who would you play on the right or what formation would you play instead?

With this squad there's no clear best team or formation,

Goes back to summer of 2012 after promotion when we err unable to strengthen our midfield. Then this season we failed again and also ended up with a weaker set of strikers.

The possession and movement comment is sadly true and v accurate. Surely we should be working on this at SL?

  • its true we havnt got a formation that actually works for this club with the players we have, its contain and hope to score on the break for the rest of the season, ludicrous we sold anyone, but roland doesnt care that we go down ... and we may be able to bring in someone or something might happen that gets us winning next season, fuck knows in truth, its a fucking nightmare really ... but it aint flipping chris powells fault!
  • Your spot on with the passing and lack of movement comment - no signs of any improvement coming from training ground.
  • Should play nego right back, Wilson right midfield.

Admittedly there are no perfect options but I would play Wilson at right midfield and Nego (or Cousins in this game if 442 had to be played) at right back. Wilson played OK today but he is better going forward than Cousins. Agreed though that the Charlton team is weak at right midfield and the striker areas and Charlton (supporters and players) will pay for this clear lack of strengthening. I totally blame Roland for that, but Charlton supporters have to accept the lack of investment, huh ?

The way the fans booed the team at the end was disgraceful yes we played bad but that's no excuse to boo we need to get behind the team not dishearten them!

I wasn't there but might that explain why Powell didn't come to the fans?
I didn't and have never booed in my 53 years of support but I for once don't blame those that did. As for CP not coming over I think both he and the players were instructed not to.

For what it's worth I think we could be virtually relegated by next Saturday night. Nothing encourages me to think otherwise after that.

  • Oh great we booed them off as well... what a great end to all this...
  • That was Wycombe all over again. Make no mistake, a disgraceful performance from top to bottom.
  • that was not wycombe all over, not even close , we have a bunch of players who are not actually very good, lots of which are hugely inexperienced and our approach was very close to working, if harriots goal would have gone it it would have been a differnt game. The differnece between this team and the experienced and expensively assembed premier league side we had at that point is huge...
  • We were playing a hugely inexperienced team from a league below. Sorry, there was no excuse for that.
  • 7 wins on the spin... on form at home... and are players are basically rubbish, as opposed to prem quality players at the valley ... now that was a management issue big time, as we discovered... this is the fact the players aren't very good and all the rest of the shite that has gone on when we have to list the obvious when all the cry babies start screaming powell out, as if that will help in any way shape or form...
  • Let's actually give Sheff Utd credit. They've beaten Fulham, Villa and Forest in the cup before playing us. They played very well today, players making runs, passing into space etc so they deserved to win.
It was never going to be an easy game. That chance was a turner and we also lost concentration at 2 key moments.
Admittedly once Wilson came off it got a lot worse but that's how I saw it.

At the end, I clapped the players who clapped us. More disappointed than angry.

    Dont agree.

I wonder what the contract offer is that Powell is looking over!I wonder what calibre of manager that money would buy us in the manager market!
  • If RD's business plan is for us to get relegated so that we can "rebuild" then he should explain it before season ticket sales take a hit.

Give it a rest FFS. All well and good you sitting however many 1000s miles away passing judgement having strolled in to your living room to watch. Many have been up since 4-5am and had 3/4/5 hour journeys to see that "display". As WSS said it was Wycombe all over again. Pathetic and gutless. People have every right to vent after that shit.
