  • AA was mom by a mile followed closely by poyet, and a baller redskin is what people who understand football call players like poyet

Baller = quality assured footballer on the football doesn't misplace passes and does not fail to look to receive a pass and take the pressure off forwards and defenders

this was what he did today, and none of it average for an 18 yr olds home debut at a team struggling for form
  • My reflections on today's game - dire!
Only positives a good performance for Diego Poyet, but have heard he is refusing to sign a new contract
so probably will go on to better things next season (Dad must be interested!)
Also the Swedish guy (Ajdarevic) looked good.
Why do we allegedly pay £800,000 for a player and bring him on about 5 minutes from the end?
Far too many changes mid season, anyone saying we didn't miss Yann must be misguided.
Didn't win hardly any balls in the air in their half. Future looks bleak.
Why do we play Jordan Cousins wide on the right, he is far better centre midfield.
Heard today Ben Alnwick has either been suspended or left Orient, anyone know
more on this. A real sad loss for us, although Thurnam was better in the 2nd half
    instills me with no confidence!
  • we didn't play hoof ball that's why we didn't win headers nice football on the deck hence why we didn't miss yann
  • After today I'm resigned to relegation. We didn't play bad but it was a lot of huff and puff which didn't really get anywhere. Brum were as bad as they were when we played at St Andrews but they still scored two.

Positives were Poyet and AA, not much else really

My mistake NLA,you originally said baler, which I thought was some obscure footballing reference concerning baling out.

    And I understand football,played it for 30 years,have watched it for 40...

  • so if you know football how can you say it was an avg performance , surely you knew it was his home debut

  • we are 100% going down --- awful football team and a shambles.

  • so if you know football how can you say it was an avg performance , surely you knew it was his home debut

I didn't know it was his home debut and I didn't know he is 18 years old.

    What difference does it make?

I just watched a game in which a footballer was alright.
  • There were a few positives today; improved performance, Poyet, Reza, Ajdarevic, even a better showing from Jacko. However these, were at the end of the match, over shadowed by the negatives; the pitch, several poor performances, I have vented my spleen in the players marks thread on this subject, and most of all a home defeat to a team in the bottom half of the table

It is the last fact that gives me most cause for concern. If we get nothing from this type of game where are the 20-25 point we need to stay up going to come from?

    I need a drink

  • in that case I can understand your comment and apologise for defending mine as I have,
  • On that woeful performance we are definitely down.
Need 26 points from 18 games and we will have no home advantage as such because the pitch is so poor.

Hard to finger one particular reason for the way it's going at the moment. There are so many bloody things!

    Four that stand out for me;

The keeper. He's not the full ticket is he? Talking to himself for a lot of the game and waving his arms around.Nobody, and I mean not one player, was listening to him.Either because they couldn't understand him or because most of what he was saying was probably complete nonsense. A keeper needs to be assertive and have an awareness of what is going on in front of him. Thuram displays none of those qualities.

Ajdarevic playing out on the left while Jackson is given the play maker role in the centre. Surely these two should have been swapped around at the very least. Ajdarevic was the only player in that midfield playing with any attacking intent and because of that he was drifting across the pitch to try and get some creativity going. The only strings Jackson was likely to pull were his hamstrings! he is now in my opinion vying for that holding role with Poyet and Cousins. And only as a last resort should he be allowed that berth. We need a playmaker in the centre of the park and on todays evidence, and unless we get someone else in, that player should be Ajdarevic.

Sordell.God he was bad. Compared to Reza, who was lively, he looked very poor. It must be every opposing defenders dream to see the name Marvin Sordell on the team sheet. Hoped he would have got the Polish fella on earlier. One could say it is early days in a new frontline partnership so give them some time...but I won't.

    And finally...Evina.
Yes he was bad.But the main worry for me is why was he so bad? OK he hasn't been first choice for a while. But all the players in that squad should be ready to come in and produce a performance of a certain level at a moments notice. He looked dreadfully short of that level. In fact he looked liked he's spent the last six months on a beach with the cocktails flowing and been nowhere near a football for any of that time. It is something that I think Grapevine touched on in one of the many Powell/takeover threads that we've seen in the past. How many of our players have really kicked on in the current coaching regime? And more worryingly for me is the fact that Evina is a full back!

I would say that out of those four points, only one was not really in Chris Powell's control. Now I love Powell and think what he's done for this club in the last few seasons has been nothing short of miraculous under the circumstances. But when I see a performance like the one I witnessed today and you try to ascertain where things are going wrong it's hard not to give a fair percentage of the blame to the great man.

Gutted by the result as we played some nice stuff but games are running out and the points and goals have dried up. We managed to create some decent chances and had we had an experienced striker up front would have made more of the chances we had. Poyet looks decent in the middle and at only 18 he looks like he has been in the first team a lot longer than just the 2 games he has played in. Ajdarevic has some nice skill and is composed on the ball and was unlucky with the shot he had in the first half. Reza looks a bit lightweight and needs to cut the diving out as that will not get us anywhere. Evina looked flaky at left back, made a few decent challenges but his passing was atrocious. The only thing going for him is his pace. What more can you say about Sordell? Just looks lazy off the ball and at one point when he was walking back from an offside position managed to get in Rezas way. Thuram not at fault for either goal and apart from a couple of toilet goal kicks did OK. Once again another player, Cousins, put in the wrong position to fit JJ into the middle. For me Powell needs to drop JJ to leave Cousins, Poyet and Ajdarevic in the middle. Can't even get upset at losing now as it is becoming a regular occurrence and am pretty much resigned to relegation. A combination of bad luck, injuries and lack of quality up front is killing us off slowly and I wouldn't be surprised at seeing us finish rock bottom. Feel for Powell at the moment as he has had a battle on his hands since the start of the season but will not be joining the Powell Out brigade. Still has my support and if he lasts to the end of the season I would like to see him lead us out from League One.
  • There's the potential for a good team in there somewhere, Ajdarevic and Poyet and Reza and Solly if he can get better and Wiggins and Cousins and maybe even Harriot if whatever those problems are can get sorted. Not too good to go down but good enough to not go down if handled correctly.
  • If only Reza managed to connect with that Cousins cross late in the first half things might have been a lot different.
  • I don't understand why Piotr was brought on so late. He was standing ready for several minutes before the 4th official was approached to bring him on. When he did come on it was far too late to do anything. CP should have brought him on much earlier. I very much respect CP, but I think he is on borrowed time.

And by now, questioning whether Powell is the right man to do it must be considered a valid question. Which is not the same as 'he's shit, he's got to go' but sticking with him on the past and his nice personality is foolhardy at best. THIS SEASON, we have been poor the whole time. There are mitigating factors but he has to take at least part of the responsibility.
  • I think i must have been was watching a different game to most on here.
We cant defend, we cant score we don't stand a chance.
  • can some one tell me in the warm up before the game the goalkeeper is catching crosses then when the game starts he decides to punch the ball

  • Centre midfield athletics should be our name.

4 cm's across the midfield. It didn't work. Powelly needs to take a long hard look at himself
  • It was nice to witness some good football on the ground. We can do it and the lack of launch ball saw us having a huge slice of the possession. We created plenty of chances but it wasn't to be. Birmingham defended very well and took their chances. They did a professional job on us and earned their win.
But we aren't done yet. Some excellent individual performances , particularly from Poyet and Ajdarevic, will stand us in good stead once they have a few games together.
  • in that case I can understand your comment and apologise for defending mine as I have,

You dear man - no need to apologise at all,as ever the gentleman.

  • Can someone please explain the substitutions today? Why an earth didn't Peter get longer? He was itching to get on and make an impact. Why an earth did we put Church on ahead of him? Once he did decide Church was going on he wa stripped and ready for a good 10 minutes before Powell put him on? Why did we not got 3 up top when we were 1-0 down? Why did we again start with no wide men? It really doesn't make sense to me
  • Posting without reading. Thought we were poor, keeper didn't have a save to make. Lots of huff and puff but little else. Team selection and formation all wrong from the start. Cousins wasted out right. Poyet I was impressed with. If he and Jordan are our best two CM then play them together there. Thought that Ajdarevic looked good, nice touches but maybe not a wide player, poss in the hole or as the front of a diamond. Promising signs though. Reza worked hard and a little unlucky but again very positive signs. Would have played Nego at RB allowing Wilson to play wide right, his best position and our best option there. Thuram not at fault for either goal a did what little lse he had to do well. Maybe a little unorthodox but saved well with his feet once and a punch clear nearly made the dugout so no worries from me especially as I was led to believe he was a circus act.

Real negatives - Sordell, crap. Worse than Mooney and I hated him. At least Church tries. Don't want to see him ever again. Evina - tries his best but ain't good enough. We have a problem if Wiggins is out too long. I'd consider a loanee as we can't throw too many youngsters in.

All in all I feel CP has to take the blame. Too negative in a game we needed to win. A point here and there ain't gonna help. He cant see the wood from the trees. Time or a change.

  • Why are so many people getting the names of all our new players so wrong? It is not difficult to do some research to at least even spell them correctly.
  • Anyone know why negro didn't play today and how long wiggins is out for. Think his return is key to our survival!!

    N E G O...
  • Just got home so had a few bevvies and posting before reading, felt sorry for AA and Reza with the lack of quality around them, Yann and Stephens would have complemented these two very well. Poyet played well but playing Cousins wide is a terrible waste of his talent.

The pitch is really going to bite us in the arse, oppo just need to shut up shop and counter - we wont break anyone apart with neat passing on that surface.

All very depressing, and I suppose we wont be seeing much of JJ in the future
