I like Jackson and all he has done for our Club over the years. But this Season, with a couple of exceptions, he has been very poor. He can't keep up with play and mistimes tackles, he can't get up the pitch regularly to score the goals he used to. The combination with Buyens, in central midfield is one of the reasons we are struggling. I still feel he could do a job screening the back four where his lack of pace would not be such a problem. We would then need more dynamic midfielders ahead of him, one could be Cousins. A box to box midfielder is still required who can weigh in with a number of goals.
Is Buyens really being "torn to shreds"? It's more commenting on him not being what we expected, a box to box midfielder, would make us forget about Poyet, of the quality we wouldn't usually be able to get etc.
We don't have many options, so I'd be happy to see either alongside Cousins to get some much needed pace and energy in the middle. Together they're too slow. For now I'd go with Jackson because we need to battle and as I said in the Buyens thread I think he looks good when things are going well but Jackson's the better player when it comes to tackling, leadership etc.
Was he touted as a box-to-box midfielder? I've always seen him as a deep lying play maker type of footballer. With a bit of energy around him creating space, it may bring the best of out him. Long balls pumped forward and just there to win the second ball does not.
Might be wrong but I thought it was suggested when he signed, maybe by a Belgian journalist on Twitter, or one of the Belgian posters on here?
Slow and ring rusty JJ certainly is but he doesn't deserve to have to line up next to self-serving sh!thouses like Buyens & JBG, to name but 2, neither one ever risks a proper challenge, neither one tries to make up for their many many errors, a few silky passes or a couple of long range goals go no way to make up for their shameless fraud. Integrity and professionalism win every time and JJ has those in spades.
I can't help but feel that Jackson's pre-match message before the Brentford game was a huge contributatory factor towards the crowd getting behind the players and as such the performance the players responded with to give us the 3-0 win given that the whole club was pulling in the same direction that game?
Had JJ's message not taken place pre-match would the fans have gotten behind the team and would the team have responded with the performance and result that they did? Would the message have had the same impact had it been delivered by Guy Luzon or anybody else not as popular as JJ?
Has that now led to a vital boost of confidence and morale among the team which may have also been factored in towards tonight's win, have we now turned a corner in the season?
Lots of questions above but has the influence of JJ off the pitch helped us to turn a corner and get the season back on track? It's difficult to prove how much of an influence it may or may not have but 6 points from 2 games since would perhaps suggest it certainly did no harm.

He's not there just for what he does on the park and I admit he's not contributing what he he did two or three seasons ago but................. He has leadership qualities and those are priceless! While I agree he should be rallying the player before every game, his pre-Brentford message addressed to the fans is the one I refer to. Luzon certainly deserves credit for picking the team in a 4-4-2 formation 2 strikers up front and 2 natural wingers on the wings and Cousins in the middle. No-one can take that away from Luzon especially given the negativity he walked into.
Whoever has turned it round since the Norwich 1st half deserves the credit whether that's Luzon, Jackson or the whole squad.

I think that is fair comment. My guess is that he is now filling the role that Andy Hughes has had in recent years, limited and diminishing contribution on the pitch but enormous in terms of leadership and spirit. Based upon the rumours of BP's reign, I wonder if his position was undermined by BP. Under Luzon, who seems to hold his counsel better, he has able to add much more to building team spirit.

Similarly, I think Johnson is adding that role in defence which has made an enormous difference with the rest of the team trusting what is going on at the back (well that, and pressing further up the pitch, scoring goals, and having Hendo back in goal).

He's done 3 lots of 90 minutes in the last 8 days so he probably can.
This is too much to take, how am I going to get to sleep tonight now, so have his legs gone or not? Ah, who cares great captain who is crucial to keeping the good ship 'Charlton', currently being run by the Belgian equivalent of Blackbeard, afloat.
Obviously his legs haven't "gone", he's just a little slow and always has been. Probably the same with Diarra, not the quickest, but play them both in the correct system and they can still dominate the midfield, as they did in the first half on Saturday.
Mental to think that someone who originally came in as a 28-29 year old emergency loan left back from League Two is on the verge of getting his 50th goal for us....
Leads by example & lit the touch paper on Saturday for the victory , must have helped his game having Diarra in midfield pulling the strings, and giving him a bit of freedom.
I'm not slagging anyone off. Jackson is a hero of the club, a wonderful captain and a superb human. He is also a fading force as a footballer and is plainly not up to the standard of the rest of the team. It is a sad situation and either resolution is unsatisfactory - the dilemma is made harder by the fact we are unbeaten, because it is often said that selection consistency when playing well is necessary.
Mental to think that someone who originally came in as a 28-29 year old emergency loan left back from League Two is on the verge of getting his 50th goal for us....
Especially as his goal scoring record elsewhere is nothing special at all! He was quite a late starter in that he didn't play regularly until he was 24 at Colchester, so may have a few more miles in his legs than otherwise.
Bizarre that the last player to 50 goals for us was Carl Leaburn 20 years ago...
