Mikel Alonso. Think it was against Preston in the cup that he had his one and only appearance and the same game that Francis had a meltdown. Francis was one of those players who was good one game and atrocious the next. We beat Reading in the cup before Preston and Francis played really well then had a shocker in the next round. David Mooney is also up there for me. I swear Mooney had clown shoes on some games the way he would fall over so easily. And the worst thing was he had the nerve to give it back to the crowd when he scored.
Lawrie madden coz he couldn't kick the ball forwards, still don't know to this day how when he tried to clear it it would go for a corner even though he was facing away from goal.
Alan McCormack was definitely pretty ordinary for us but he's probably going to get Player of The Year at Brentford this season. He's been absolutely superb, either in centre-midfield or right-back. He's got so much drive and energy, which never really showed through for us.
As for a bad buy, you'd be hard pressed to beat David Campbell (ex Forest). We didn't have two bob in the bank but managed to chuck away £75k on him.
Mikel Alonso, Tahar El-Khalej are the two that spring to mind. Thought that Andy Gray was dreadful too.
Worst performance was Llera at Colchester by a country mile. He also takes second place in that league with his ineptitude in the 4-0 away at Millwall that same season.
Iain Dowie has got to damn near be the worst manager ever to piss away eleven million on the crap he bought.
JFH, Pouso (did he ever even play?), Amdy Faye, Dickson (a striker who can't score!), Walton, Diawara.
My favorite nickname from that season was when people called JFH "Moneybank" because he was essentially stealing 40k from the club per week for his crap performances.
Diawara?! We'd be begging for him right now. Quality defender in the French leagues.
French leagues being the key there. To be honest, with the state of the defense we'd be begging for Cory Gibbs, Sorondo or Traore right now.
He plays in the Champions League and doesn't do too badly...

Diawara isn't bad now, but he wasn't that great his season here. French league is a whole different ball game than the English leagues though.
Peter Shaw, Amdy Faye, JFH. You wonder how some of these players actually manage to make it as profesional footballers, then you remember managers like Dowie!

He was a wonder striker with Atlético Madrid, but we seemed to pick him up two years after he should have retired. I always remember my mates dad who saw him in the pre match and assumed he was part of the coaching staff as he looked so unfit, then collapsed laughing when he realised he was in our starting line up.
Yan Kornig......Yonn Kernigrant.......Yann Kermignant.....oh i can't remember someone who used to play for us, he was always fairly poor, never put in any effort, so most people boo'd him whenever he got a run out.

As a youngster I really never ever "got" Paul Bacon. Just never seemed to accomplish anything

I was there for Llera away vs Colchester. Memorable...
Diawara?
