Its funny because 99% of what he said, were it said by a lifer, regarding concerns about the direction of the club, the attitude of Roland etc would probably be good enough to be made into an article...
Then again though he's gone so he's a talentless frog.
We've had zero transparency coming out of the club for donkeys years. I'm still waiting to hear why Dowie was sacked! Finally someone has the guts, and goes to the trouble of telling us exactly what happened, not because he has to, but because he cares about the club and us fans. Yet some would prefer that we were kept in the dark and that Yann should just take the money and keep his mouth shut. I'm grateful that he has told us what happened, we are all stakeholders in the business that is CAFC and we deserve better than to be continually kept in the dark about decisions that could directly affect our ongoing support.
Yanns attempts to negotiate a new contract may be a trend that footballers will face due to FFP. The power may be moving in the direction of clubs rather than players with regard to wages. There are many good footballers unable to find clubs from last season. Yanns experience may make those players at Charlton nearing the end of their contracts consider seriously their demands on the club. Unfortunately in the short term losing Yann and Dale Stephens will harm Charlton, but in the long term it could prove sensible for football and Charlton.
If the club has genuine ambitions, you try 100% to keep your best players, not sell them to rivals. With probably the thought - oh well if we go down I'll get £4 million back! Still no loan signings I notice!
This is becoming very silly. I cannot believe people are still wanting to debate this issue. I did not read the VOTV article but as described it appears to source information from close to KMG. Now we have the latest "expose".
Do people not think for one moment both articles are simply designed to portray KMG in a positive light? Methinks the man almost protests too much.
I will repeat I have absolutely no problem with KMG taking an offer to benefit his and his families personal circumstances. At his age within the career span of a footballer it was entirely the right decision.
No matter how he wishes to portray it - it is precisely the decision he made - a decision he was allowed to make by the "ogres" that now populate SE7.
For someone who argues he did not go for the money, neither he or the authors apparently thought to mention whether he was on more money at Bournemouth. Why? If your defence is you have not gone for the money - the natural assumption has to be he is on more money!
If it is not about money why mention he took a pay cut to join us? Conveniently forgetting he was able to do so because Leicester paid up his contract! Even his reference to Ligue 1is questionable - he was hardly pulling up trees on loan at Arles-Avignon where he managed 3 goals in 20 starts - and they were hardly champing at the bit to take on his full salary or offer him a contract.
If his requirement at the outset was the security of another 2 seasons at Charlton - that is the offer he received. If a specific remuneration was not mentioned the observation has to be it was on the same money - normally any offer lower than the existing remuneration facilitates a contact release.
His agent had advised the club of the nature of the Bournemouth remuneration package and the club indicated it was not interested in matching those terms.
If, Bournemouth had not offered him more money would he have gone?
The articles reek of justification, justification, justification (or to be harsh excuse, excuse, excuse). I am not sure who KMG is trying to convince, us or himself.
I fully understand his disquiet at the "unsettled nature" of the club. That is neither the fault of him or the current administration. I recognise his concern over the future of Powell but he does not get to choose the manager of the club. How is his apparent support for Powell or our club served by his cutting and running at the first opportunity.
I have seen comments his departure has doomed us to relegation.
KMG as good as he is, is no Eddie Firmani or Cliff Holton. What was KMG going to play centre midfield, centre back and goalkeeper as well? People are entering the realms of fantasy.
Relying on a 32yr old physical, occasionally volatile presence is asking for trouble. He started 28 of 46 league games last year and 17 of 27 games this season - circa 60% of games.
Are we poorer for his departure? Did he serve us very well? Will I miss his contribution? Yes to all of the above.
The fact remains as his own words confirm he could still be donning the shirt of our club? HE CHOSE NOT TO.
I continue to wish him well but I must admit he is beginning to test my patience.

Absolutely. A vast majority of us have issues with the club's lack of communication in recent years and yet someone comes out with something illuminating and people moan that doing so is negative- do you only want to hear the positive stuff that comes out of the club?! If some rumour monger had spread this from an 'unidentified' source, a majority of you would be moaning that we should be hearing more from the club etc.
Yann Kermorgant was hardly a Charlton legend in the same way that Tom Finney was for PNE.
People are way over the top with Kermorgant, he played 90 games for us over two and a half seasons and scored 29 goals - a decent record but not that great seeing as one season was in League One.
Finney played 433 games for Preston (370 in the First Division), scored 187 goals and won 76 England caps.
Kermorgant only stands out so much at Charlton because of the fast flowing sewer of prime excrement that has flowed through our club since 2007.
Wow thanks for explaining that to me and looking the numbers up on Wikipedia. I was merely reacting to DP's post, directly above, that stated a departed player was of no relevance. Clearly that's not the case, so the point still stands.
Just to be clear, this isn't a new recent piece, it was the interview given to SLP nearly two weeks ago that was in their paper on 7th Feb, and covered extensively here
I must agree with Grapevine a bit here, if it was Dale Stephens giving these kinds of interviews/explanations/excuses, most Charlton fans would not really give much of a toss, despite with YK's waning fitness and influence Dale might yet be the bigger loss of the two. Yann felt it would be better for him to go, he FELT he was being forced out, rightly or wrongly I do not claim to know. But there was only one person who decided he was going to Bournemouth, and when, and on which terms... and that person was Yann Kermorgant.
He is the past, whatever he says and does now will not have any influence on the club's future. I am disappointed he left, but accepted it and moved on. I wish he could do the same, frankly.

I think Dowie was sacked because Richard Murray didn't realise how much of a clown he signed up. I went to a RM question and answer session at the Valley the first season we were down in League One. He said there were a couple incidents. Dowie got the team lost on a team run/jog in Newcastle city centre prior to a 5.30 Saturday evening kick off. In addition, when we played Wigan away, the team went up on a Friday night, only for the coach to suddenly disappear into some country lanes for about 10 minutes. It emerges outside Dowie's house. He had decided to spent the night with his family and not stay in the hotel with the team. He turned up the next day to the ground late. These were two example RM cited in the meeting that I feel led to him thinking what sort of idiot he might have taken on.
When you add to the fact Palace had served a writ on Dowie, and the club were backing him financially, it was probably best to cut all ties there and then. I believe Dowie was a huge factor in why we got relegated that season. Some of those players he was allowed to buy were shocking.
Actually bored of all the "move on" and "let it go" comments that seem to be coming out now that he has left. Supporters are passionate about their favorite players and feel hard done by when they move on unexpectedly, myself included. Deal with it.
We had about a years worth of whinging on here when certain people behind the scenes were moved on from the club by Tony Jiminez, I don't remember there being such a hurry to try and dampen it down and telling people to "move on".
To call Kermorgant a legend and comparing him to Sir Tom Finney is ridiculous. He was a wholehearted, journeyman Striker who is struggling to get into Bournemouth's first team. I liked the way he gave 100 per cent for the cause, but Bartram, Hales, Peacock etc are Charlton legends.
Kermorgant has no relevance to us now, just as Stephens or Clive Mendonca have no relevance. They don't play for us anymore, so look back with fond memories but they can do no more to influence us. Unless Kermy and Stephens score to beat a relegation rival. We have to get on with the likes of Reza, Polish Pete, Church and Sordell.
we're entitled to feel upset if (as happened last week) one of our popular ex-players were to score a goal for Bournemouth, hence it's only right that we debate whether we could have done more to keep Simon Francis

Comparing him to Tom Finney is ridiculous, and legend status is handed out all too easily. But perhaps hero is a valid assignment.
Let's face it, we've not really had anything approaching a legend since the days of Kinsella, Robinson, Parker, et al. Since Powell's been in place, we can at least say that there's evidence of the old Charlton spirit, and Kermorgant epitomised that. I think it's not unreasonable for people to talk in such fond terms, at least in relatively recent history.
This has all left a bad taste in the mouth. The difficulty I have is that actually no-one is coming out with any credit. As I see it, we are witness to two sides of the story - at least - and whilst we are free to make up our own minds, conclusion won't be objectively reached. I think Steve Dixon's piece evidences that.
For what it's worth, my own view is that the club took a decision, Yann reacted to it and perhaps regrets doing so. There seems to be a lot of justification in that piece. If he wanted to stay, presumably he could wave his contract at the owners and hang around for the rest of the season. It would have bought him time at no cost, and bought his advocates within the club time to work on the message - it seems Katrien Miere was persuaded, after all.
For me, the snippet that's most revealing in Yann's piece is that it was his agent who seemed to have instructed him to sign for Bournemouth. Whilst he might have wanted the club to do more, that they didn't doesn't mean they didn't want to keep him - what it almost certainly does mean is that they weren't prepared to pay more to keep him.
Anyway, he's gone now and moving on is the most appropriate course of action. For Yann more than any of us.
Dont be bitter, be a bench warmer. Too late now yann, if you were really othered about the clubs survival you wouldnt have refused to play before leaving and would have triggered the contract extension.
Chris Powell will not be to blame if Charlton lose their Championship status. That is the view of Yann Kermorgant - who believes the Addicks should have quickly moved to secure the Addicks boss on a new deal after Roland Duchatelet's takeover at the start of the year.
seconded, really boring now - perhaps Yann you could of scored more goals in the first half of the season and give a bit more effort along with your fellow players for your manager. Yann piss off.
I must say some of the comments on here are absolutely hilarious, and bordering on emotionally unstable! Some of you sound like a housewife who's husband has just walked off to live with her younger, more attractive sister.
Get lost you evil scum I always hated you.
Get Yann on Jeremy Kyle with a few of you and it will be classic daytime TV.

Actually it's more like a housewife whose husband has left to live with a 30 stone pikey.

guilty as charged. celebrated with a "you mugg" when he stuck that header wide on saturday.
In the dark days to come later in 2014, as we travel for the away leg of the JPT against Colchester (who are then above us in the L1 table), we will look at our squad and wish for players that really want to play for Charlton.
The words of YK should echo in our heads:
But I came back to Charlton and trained on Thursday because I was still a Charlton player. I had not agreed any deal with Bournemouth - I just met them on Wednesday to talk and take the temperature. Everyone was surprised to see me but I told people at the club that nothing was signed.
All the talk of Belgian millionaires and Iranian World Cup players will seem totally irrelevant as the minor media that cover the lower leagues speculates that we are linked with some midfielder from Canvey Island.
Getting YK was a masterstroke, letting him go unnecessarily was a huge mistake.
This is becoming very silly. I cannot believe people are still wanting to debate this issue. I did not read the VOTV article but as described it appears to source information from close to KMG. Now we have the latest "expose".

I don't know the facts, but if CAFC offered him less money than AFCB then naturally he had to "choose" not to stay. Its a shame, if CAFC did not match AFCB, because YK deserved a good deal, but he probably doesn't fit within RD model of youth investment.
