  • Somebody mentioned earlier in the thread that this guy was one of the top keepers in France last year. If that is the case then I would expect him to be a big step up in quality to Alnwick and Hamer (who are both decent Championship keepers IMO).

If he comes and replaces them as the 1st choice then this can only be good for the team as it is improving the overall quality (if the hype is to be believed?).

Our aim has to be to improve the first team and squad which these type of signings should go some way to doing. Only issue is that if they are only 6 month loans with no view to a permanent transfer then this is a short term fix to the problem.

Our big problem is lack of goals up front. That is what needs to be address first.

We can improve in every area of the team although I agree that keeper is not the most urgent.

But Powell can't afford to sign players in order of need and nor would that be practical.

If there is good defender or keeper available now then sign him while still chasing a striker or two.

I'd guess Powell already knows which strikers he'd like and is actively trying to get them but other clubs, agents and the players themselves may all not be ready to make a deal.

  • Fair dos. Dont mind being challenged at all on content, but no need to call it pathetic or deliberately misinterpret...i never said anything about it being widespread but instead referred to 2 specific players

.i heard that last week from someone i trust. Obviously any quotes like you say from powelly before MS signed would totally disprove that.

Sorry, I was spiky. Thoroughly fed up with the narrative on here blaming all the ills on the former board. Linked article contains quotes that suggest he was very much CP's signing.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2382695/Charlton-sign-Marvin-Sordell-Simon-Church.html
  • no worries.,..thanks i appreciate that very much.

tis true...but then again it is a quote after the signing was compleed. whereas as regards church - i believe there are quotes before the deal is completed from SCP saying he was after him

as i posted above, i am certainly not someone who bangs on about being ITK normally, i just happened to hear this from someone inside the game (not CAFC FYI).

im also not saying the guy said powelly didnt want him or was massively opposed to being given him...just that he wasnt a powelly target or scouted by dyer/matthew/chapple (delete as appropriate)
  • I don't think discussing this when the player is stil at the club is particularly helpful.
  • yeah fair point. enough on this.

lets wish him a speedy recovery and hope he can add something come march
  • Re Thuram. I know a bit about Troyes, my favourite team in France.
Thuram had a very good season but he and Standard didn't go by the rules when they signed him, leaving club and fans quite frustrated.
I rate him slightly above Hamer.
However, his arrival is bound to create bitterness among our 3 goalies. Their position is the most vulnerable. An injury, a suspension or a
dip in form and they have to struggle to regain their place. They won't appreciate the extra competiton of his calibre.
Thuram is young, but if we can't get him long term, he's not worth the punt.
  • Any particular info on his strengths and weaknesses?
  • they call him Dracula because it doesn't like crosses and his middle is Cinderella because he always late for the ball

  • Obika has signed for Brighton on loan =(
  • Obika has signed for Brighton on loan =(

    BOO...

  • “Jonathan is someone we have been aware of for some time – because Nathan Jones has worked closely with him in the past at Yeovil and Charlton."

    Oscar Garcia - Brighton manager
  • Very disappointing - would have liked him back. Please tell me we're not going to have to make do with some random not good enough for Standard but who could do with being put in the shop window for a couple of months.....
  • His Wikipedia says Barcelona were inset rested in signing Thuram when he was younger. Presumably something to do with his cousin when he was there?
  • Last top-quality loanee was Alex Song, he's at Barca now!
  • Astrit Ajdarević

Since he arrived (for a 6 month loan only), we've had:
u21s (ish) match v Spurs on 9th Jan
    u21s match v Swansea on 13th Jan
FA Cup v Oxford on 14th jan

and he's not featured in any of them. Why not? I've seen no mention of him being injured.

My guess (and that's all it is) is that he was scheduled to play against Barnsley, and also that the club intended to play him against Oxford until Airman Brown pointed out that he had not been registered in time (his post on another thread).

If I'm right, AB saved the club from the embarrassment of fielding an ineligible player in the Cup. On top of all the recent embarrassment about the pitch in front of the new owner.

If I'm wrong, has anyone got a better explanation of why Ajdarević hasn't been given any game time? Is he the new Cory Gibbs?

That's a huge supposition i would expect to be incorrect. No one is more experienced that Chris Parkes and i can't remember him ever making a mistake in terms of a registration.

Why he never featured in the U21 game v Swansea is a great question. There is no reason why he would be that unfit he would not have benefited from some game time there, other than he is injured.

I think Jacko was a Parkie loanee.

Here is a list of loanees, probably missed a couple:-

Federico Bessone, Mikkel Alonso, Nathan Ecclestone, Frank Nouble, Dean Parrett, Michael Stewart, John Sullivan, Lee Cook, Hogan Ephraim, Dany N'Guessan, Darel Russell, Emmanuel Frimpong, Mark Gower, Rob Hulse, Eggert Jonsson, Jon Obika, Abdul Razak, Dan Seaborne, Marvin Sordell, Cameron Stewart.

    Mixed bag really.

    Discuss on a different thread?

Not much of a mixed bag in my eyes. they are nearly all shite with the exception of a couple of average players.

  • pretty sure he was out there in the pre match warm up last night. I would have thought he could have played at least some part at Swansea but there's probably a good reason why not that we are not privvy to. As said by AFKA Chris Parkes has been doing his job very well for eon's and they is no way he wouldn't have been aware of the rules and reg's re registration. AB spared no-one's blushes on that.

Or maybe, just maybe, he isn't match fit? Couldn't play against Oxford (as we would have known, AB wouldn't be the only one to know this, funnily enough) and wasn't used in the Under 21's as he isn't fit enough to play Friday-Saturday-Monday-Tuesday-Saturday-Tuesday? If he was in the Barnsley squad he wouldn't play against Spurs the day before, and the Monday game would have been 2 days after Barnsley, and I reckon Euell would have already been preparing his team for the game before Saturday and therefore wouldn't have just suddenly thrown him in, otherwise a few other first teams would have been utilised.

He's been here 10 days ffs and we're already lining his name up with Cory effing Gibbs? Give the guy a chance!

I am sure I read on one on CL that one of the Charlton staff had to have a word as to Ajdarevic's training attitude which was said to be not great but had subsequently improved. No one has an automatic right to be put in the team. It would have sent out the wrong message to the other players if that had happened and he made the team.

Don't think that is right. Think at the Kent Addick's Q & A Andy Hughes said he had to be pulled up about something he'd done/said in training and he apologised and they moved on.

  • Zheng Zhi apparently had the same problem when he first joined said and done some things to annoy the other players. Lets judge how he plays.

As it was reported from EK Addicks It was Andy Hughes but it was about AA not giving enough, according to Hughes, in training and being told that's not how we do things here.

  • If true then ok for Hughes to dig him out in training but bit off for him to tell fans that AA is basically a lazy git.

But he said that AA had responded and was now working hard. So all positive IMO

  • Met them both last night at the game and they both seem nice people they were not overly impressed at half time but seems more into it by the end of the game

Was anybody overly impressed at half time? If so get their name and get them committed
