  • For us to have a 2million Euro player in our squad seems ridiculous considering how desperate we've been in recent months.

We've had a £4m player in the squad all season and he's probably been the worst of the lot (Sordell).

Powelly didnt want alonso or sordell, so.nothing new with the owner foisting players upon SCP.

This is one of the most ridiculous posts that I've seen on here. It's great that we support our manager but just inventing a bogeyman that we make responsible for every poor signing is pathetic.

context please. Alonso is common knowledge. I heard about sordell specifically, not from a CAFC source i hasten to add.

its a football forum. Dont be so condescending

If you go back to the original thread about Sordell joining the implication is that Powell pursued Sordell from January last year and there were a number of positive comments about Powell finally getting his man. I tried to find comments from Powell re the signing but the clubs search facility is pretty crap, but I am also fairly certain that he is quoted as having been interested in Sordell for a while .. not sure where.

The sad thing about the whole Sordell affair is how much optimism there was about his signing and how much he has under achieved, regardless of whose fault it is.
  • Fair dos. Dont mind being challenged at all on content, but no need to call it pathetic or deliberately misinterpret...i never said anything about it being widespread but instead referred to 2 specific players

.i heard that last week from someone i trust. Obviously any quotes like you say from powelly before MS signed would totally disprove that.

I wasted an hour of my life searching for them last night and did not find them (I try not to contradict people based on my feelings), so i am happy to keep the jury out. At the moment there is not proof either way and your contact could be right.

We have had a pretty poor record with loanees over the last 2 years, why we can't get better out of them is my real concern, whether they are Powells choice or not. Especially as there is a boat load of them coming over from Belgium.

  • Thats is a good point...who has really impressed as a loanee? Bessone was quite good i guess but in a shocking team. Players that i thought would be good but flattered to deceive under SCP:

Ecclestone...good moments but clearly never played to his huge potential

    dench man frimpong

    razzak

I guess that rob hulse did the job we asked him to do.

    Jacko
  • Russell and Ephraim did OK as did Gower. Hulse as said did a job and Obika scored some important goals
  • Theres normally greater risk with loanees. They often are unwilling to try as hard with a loan club as injury could be very risky when you are not on a long term contract. Theres reasons why there not playing for their own club, they are are either out of form, returning from injury and surplus to requirements because they are unable to displace another player in the team, a "problem" player, inexperienced, not fully fit and needing a few games, or otherwise unsettled. Occasionally you get lucky as with Yann where his problems with Leicester haven't affected us.
  • How could i forget jacko? Epic fail (hangs head in shame)

  • Bessone wasnt a Powell loanee was he... Thought he came and went before then?
  • I thought he came in just after powell and was one of the few half-decent performers in that long losing run end of 2010/2011
  • How could i forget jacko? Epic fail (hangs head in shame)

No shame in that, when he was on loan he was playing at Left back & he was shit. Slow, constantly caught out of position & really offered nothing of note. Pretty sure he moved into midfield only after signing a permanent deal & we all know what he has meant to the team & the club since.

After checking Wiki... You are right he joined in Jan 2011, quite liked him myself

i think we signed him for midfield but then basey and youga got injured so he had to cover at left back

Ok if thats the case fair enough but have to say i thought we signed him from Notts County as a left back (originally a midfielder I know but thought he had converted to full back).... there again I have difficulty remembering what I had for dinner yesterday so I wouldn't swear to anything to do with memory ;-)

We actually did sign him as an emergency left back after Basey's injury and he played all four games there and then got a hamstring problem and had to return to Notts County.I would describe him as competent there in League One although his lack of pace would rule it out as an option at this level.

We then had the disastrous 4-0 drubbing at the Toolbox when Solly played at left back and then Parky literally paid out of his own pocket to sign Garry Borrowdale.
  • Yohann Thuram follows Astrid Ajdarevic to Charlton Athletic. French Standard lends the keeper until the end of the season. If Eiji Kawashima Sclessin leave - he would like in Italy or Spain to work -. Thuram gets a chance next season as first goalkeeper in Rouches The negotiations are in the final straight. Thuram has been a time asking for a temporary transition. Standard is willing to cooperate. The 24 year old Yohann Thuram was last season in the French Ligue 1 under the crossbar. He did well at Troyes, but the club did not ensure conservation. In late July he signed a four-year contract at Standard. Due to the strong performance of Kawashima Thuram was little playing time. At Charlton he will struggle to the death with Ben Hamer (26) and Nick Pope (21). The Addicks recently came into the hands of Roland Duchâtelet and stand on the nineteenth place in the second division, which has 24 teams.

i wonder if its meant to say that or the translations wrong haha

Am I looking in the wrong places because I hear or read nothing official on this keeper? where are these reports?
  • There has been no confirmation of Thuram as yet,but a fair amount of chatter from Belgium that it is happening.
  • I think Jacko was a Parkie loanee.

Here is a list of loanees, probably missed a couple:-

Federico Bessone, Mikkel Alonso, Nathan Ecclestone, Frank Nouble, Dean Parrett, Michael Stewart, John Sullivan, Lee Cook, Hogan Ephraim, Dany N'Guessan, Darel Russell, Emmanuel Frimpong, Mark Gower, Rob Hulse, Eggert Jonsson, Jon Obika, Abdul Razak, Dan Seaborne, Marvin Sordell, Cameron Stewart.

    Mixed bag really.

He is savvy enough to give diplomatolic soundbites but then doesnt play em

id take any bodies we can. Much as i rate hamer's potential, id snap up any offer of 400K plus (led to believe we paid around 200K for him to reading). Take this thuram fella, he will be decent...troyes are no muggs.

anderlecht and standard liege would win this division by 20 points....shouldnt disrespect the level of the belgian league. We have a tendency to rubbish what we dont know.

Funny one that - I heard that the boss had followed (no not stalking ;-) MS for quite some time and it was him who requested the loan deal to the Board. Now I have no concrete evidence on this and would be curious as to whether your knowledge is fact.

On the same theme, I have heard that under the old regime TJ would confirm the budgets, CP would identify targets and then approach when approved by TJ. Anyone know anything different?
  • I have no idea why we are looking at this keeper. Harsh on Alnwick or Hamer - unless they have stated they have no intention of singing another contract. Both are capable at this level and another keeper isn't going to come and play 3rd choice is he.

    This seems pointless to me.

If he's that good we have no hope of actually signing him so whats the point other than to potentially put him in the shop window for Liege's coffers

The only one that has been half decent is Stewart.

Frimpong, Razak and Sordell all under acheived.

Obika was ok but we never really saw him start bar once I think.

    The rest were shit

I think that is exactly the purpose of having multiple clubs.
  • I read that Thurum was saying he needed game time - and wanted to be loaned out to play.

So, should he come here, he'll expect to play?
  • in my opinion, if he comes he'll play. Wants to get in the World Cup squad so needs to be playing.

Well it's a fact that Powell had absolutely nothing to do with the signings of Alonso or Clarke. So in those instances I think it's pretty fair to do so.

N'Guessan was good for us, got some important goals at the end. Russell, Ephraim, Parrett and Hulse did the job they were asked to as well. Gower was good on loan and part of the side that surged up to 3 points off the Play-Offs at the end of last season. Stewart is hardly the only 'half decent' one.

Somebody mentioned earlier in the thread that this guy was one of the top keepers in France last year. If that is the case then I would expect him to be a big step up in quality to Alnwick and Hamer (who are both decent Championship keepers IMO).

If he comes and replaces them as the 1st choice then this can only be good for the team as it is improving the overall quality (if the hype is to be believed?).

Our aim has to be to improve the first team and squad which these type of signings should go some way to doing. Only issue is that if they are only 6 month loans with no view to a permanent transfer then this is a short term fix to the problem.
