Is anyone from the trust able to tell us how many signatures we got in the end.
1,900 for, 4 against.
I'm not sure any trust in the land has done more to garner supporter opinion. The petition isn't part of the requirement but we wanted Charlton fan to have their say and short of knocking on the front door of every single fan I don't think we could have done much more.
I'm very disappointed with this line "It is hoped that this six-month period will be enough to deter any potential buyer who might want to move the club to a new site, on the Greenwich Peninsula, and build social housing on the site of the current stadium".
Has anybody actually checked the credibility of this latest announcement? Are we 100% sure the Yanks have pulled out and it isn't just (another) vicious rumour?
However I would draw your attention to two things about the Mail report
1. It doesnt bang on about ACV like that incisive investigative organ, the SLP.
2. More importantly it says "poised to pull the plug". You could possibly therefore read the source as being American, and designed to put some pressure on. Pressure they might be inclined to resist, if this is not the only bid in the offing....
Never easy supporting this football club. Just worried now about the impact this will have on the players and staff - relegation, a very real prospect without investment, would be almost unbearable.
American sports tycoon Harris set to pull the plug on bid to buy Charlton By SAMI MOKBEL 11 December 2013
American business tycoon Joshua Harris is poised to pull his interest in buying Championship club Charlton. Sportsmail revealed last month how the businessman, who owns basketball team Philadelphia 76ers and ice hockey side New Jersey Devils, has been in talks regarding a takeover at The Valley. Talks were at an advanced stage, but it is understood Harris is preparing to pull his interest in the South London club leaving takeover plans at square one.
Harris' riches would have provided Charlton with a major financial boost, with current co-owners Tony Jimenez and Michael Slater listening to offers for the Addicks. Manager Chris Powell and a number of players are in the last year of contracts that haven’t been renewed because of the likelihood of a Charlton sale.
Harris, who spent around £500million buying his NBA and NHL franchises, could easily afford the mooted £43m price for Charlton that would include the freehold of The Valley. But a deal now looks a long way off following the American's backtracking.
As far as I'm concerned acv means that we won't be given just two weeks notice that we are buggering off to selhurst (or anywhere else for tht matter). Furthermore, we will have the time and opportunity to do our own form of dd to try and make sure that whatever happens our club will be preserved for future generations.
All directors knew about ACV when it was applied for, they have the cellphones of various Trust members. Do you really think that if a man like TJ thought ACV was an issue he wouldn't have made his opinions known?
Rather naive, surely? Politically and presentationally there was no way the club could have publicly opposed ACV. As I suspect you know. Can anyone explain how the announcement of ACV in the middle of the negotiations was meant to be an inducement to a prospective buyer?
They didnt need to say anything publicly. As I wrote earlier to @LeaburnforEngland, one discreet private phone call would have done the trick. Indeed I can almost imagine the script. It did not happen, and there were many conversations between Trust and Directors and management in the period.
Th timing of the announcement is a matter for Greenwich Council. In fact in law it should have come some two months earlier. You are talking as if it was some kind of surprise. The only surprise was that GC prevaricated so long.
Oh well, I'm sure we'll be able to keep this squad together and we already know it can walk League 1 and at the very least we'll be able to sell our best players and use the funds to re-build. I mean, there's no way that basically the entire squad could just walk away in the summer.

Looks like leak and counter-leak to me. I don't see the Americans planting a story with a source that would refer to them backtracking - contradicting the SLP.
In defence of the SLP, they know more people than the Mail and I know they are not running with one source. I couldn't say the same about the Mail.
Who signs a petition they don't agree with? Easy to get yes votes on a petition outside the ground but not so easy to register your no vote. Not a big enough mandate in my opinion to justify the acv and I feel it is pointless too as all it does is give notice of something that can't be stopped.

The petition was available online, I'd imagine that's how most signed it. We made it available to sign at home games so that a) all Addicks who go to games would have the opportunity to sign, and b) Addicks who don't have access to the Internet had the opportunity to have their say also.

I'm not sure what you mean by "contradicting the SLP". I've just read the two reports and they seem to me to be the same (apart from the ACV bollocks) "Backtracking", "pulling out", thats pretty much the same meaning, isn't it?
The trust have put a massive nail in the future of Charlton, Harris does not want any hussle when he moves the club to a new stadium, he don't need it got so much money he just go and buy someone else who want to move to the next level. Who invented these figures, I know 6 ST holders who all think it would be the right thing for the clubs future to move to a new stadium. So I think this for and against figure are incorrect. But well done guys, div 1 next season then Admin or even no club at all, but at least The Valley will be standing .
Waiting for you to make a ridiculous statement (Like Always) you can't blame the trust for Harris pulling out clearing something come up in the DD

Good evening Mr Sams. While you are here, do tell me if you now regret your strident weekly criticisms of Alan Curbishley.

I think they are subtly different, but it's just my interpretation. If the Mail story was a lift from the SLP I doubt they would use the word "poised" or clearly locate the blame with the Americans. I don't think the latter are the source of either.
My info is that Cash is more active in all this than would appear. He is motivated by property deals. This could be one he wants to stay in on. He clearly has bugger all interest in the team though. I don't think MS or TJ are influencing proceedings as much as being presented.
Charlton dogs - can't do a link thingy, I'm afraid, but if you google Charlton Greyhound Stadium the sixth item is headed J.Stone etc and on there is a wonderful aerial picture from 1947.
My Grandad was manager there (the dog track) once upon a time.
I'd love to learn a bit about the history fifties and prior.
if anyone thinks the trust scuppered the take over then grow up your old enough to know better and as for you knowing 6 STs that thought it was a good Idea I know 7 that didn't do I win then ??
I think that everyone should breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth
and before the Trust get embroiled in tit for tat take a considered stand point and think through your responses as I think that right now you are teetering on a point that may not be able to be recovered with regards to what your connected and contributed to

What's that you say?
All out of contract you say?
Oh.
In defence of the SLP, they know more people than the Mail and I know they are not running with one source. I couldn't say the same about the Mail.
What's the best source we have on this? The daily mail?
I think out of most people here Airman has the best sources.
