its a shame J but that's footie, soon your boys footie will be your focus more so than it is now and your priorities will change
cafc will always be there just in a different guise than the one I want to spend dough on I agree its a real shame, those days made us hardend and more tolerant of mediocre results, really if a team dropped from prem to div 3 like we did then riots should've ensued, mighyt just bring the new bread of supporters the club needs to not let this happen again so quietly
Why is there all this fuss about the stadium? We didn't have any of this when the present owners were about to take over from what I recall.
Because we trusted the previous owners more than the current regime. Bit premature I know, but I would have some concern over what the current lot have signed away to get any potential Deal over the line.
Before a 40000 seater stadium can be built the transport logistic will need to be sorted imagine the following:- In 15 years time 40000 football fans leaving this new stadium after watching Chalton play Barcelona in the Champions league at the same time as 20000 One Direction fans leaving the O2 after their come back concert. Its bad enough at the moment leaving the O2. :-)

40,000 Charlton vs 20,000 One direction! no contest they'd have our flasks away in a jiffy
So much pre-judgement and speculation... my initial reaction (to Cawley's tweet and the SLP article, not this thread) was positive - yes new owners could shaft us, and tinker -- but they might not, so let's see...
As for tinkering, does make you think what changes would be tolerated vs what wouldn't. Obviously a ground in another district entirely, or blue shirts, most wouldn't be happy about. But i'm not going to lose sleep over changes that may or may not happen. Yep, that was me blissfully on holiday as the notes were being handed out in 1985...
its more to do with the battle the hardship and the times supporting cafc through the 80s and early 90s , like isaid I wouldn't force my view on my choice on anyone we all follow football for differing reasons
Exactly mate leaving the valley would be hard to take after all the toil to get back there, i for 1 would find it hard after some great memories growing up going to watch matches with my family and mates etc. Tradition is dying out and its a real shame.
Which is the reason why I will not be going. Not interested, good luck to those of you who have already seem to have packed your bags? Still not heard a convincing, or even half baked financial business reason for going, and as for being leased the ground by RBG god help Charlton. This has a long way to go yet, so until we see the details, like who are these individuals, a question not entirely transparent with the current owners, let alone another bunch of 'money men'. Of course community, history, have no price on the balance sheet these day's, if it did these individual's would probably screw it up anyway? God forbid any sort of business plan, but I will wait see what happen's.....or not!
A lot of potential toys being thrown out of potential prams here. Chiiiilllllllll a little bit and let's maybe see what happens? None of us can do a god damn thing about it anyway!
The SLP story is not a leak but a very deliberate plant by one of the parties most closely involved.
That suggests talks are well advanced but certainly not finalised. Yet in usual CL fashion we're all getting way ahead of ourselves - launching the campaign against a move from the Valley when we don't know if there is any such intention; issuing lists of questions for new owners whose identity we don't know and who have not yet taken possession; passing judgement on the Slater/Jiminez era before we know it's over...
Slow down. Digest what is potentially good news. And await further developments.
So where's all the talk (apart from peeps speculating on here) of moving stadium? Thought it was just a potential take-over..................
I think people remember what happened when a property company took us over in the eighties and fear history repeating itself.
But nobody seriously believes we might be off to Selhurst or anyone else's ground, do they? (unless we go bust, which could happen whoever owns us, if they screw up).
During '86 & '87 - i.e. before a Valley return became more of a possibility - I'd have been more than happy if (as was being speculated) we'd have found a ground on the peninsula. Of course now we have a perfectly good ground, so it's not the same scenario....
... but that's my point - it's not the same scenario at all. Let's see some details before we start getting too worked up

Just started getting excited then you have to go and tell me that "One Direction" will still be going in 2028.
Any new stadium would be years away anyway. And any talk of changing colours is ridiculous.
If it goes through I look forward to January to see the calibre of player's we are looking at. Upgrading the academy status I presume will be looked at which will help us long term and a new pitch would be nice ;-)
One step at a time. Although not quite as old as the ValleyVeteran I too have supported and followed the team for over half a century including season tickets at Sellout and Upton Park. Like others I have enjoyed the highs and lows at the Valley with close family and friends many of whom are no longer with us. If and when we ever up sticks I for one will not cut off my nose to spite my face and I know my late father would say 'They can knock the ground down mate but can never take away our memories, so you keep supporting them just like we did in the 80's'.
i loved my last house. i moved to a better house. i love my new house even more. just saying .....
True, but there are 2 bad examples:
Pompey: loads of money spent, all turned sour, now languishing down the lower leagues
Cardiff: total change of club colours (similar to Hull City's imminent name change)
Only 2 examples I know, but it can turn sour.
Yes it's all gone very sour for Cardiff. Their fans looked absolutely devastated by the colour change when they rolled over Man City and Swansea in front of a sold out stadium earlier this season.
Did I say it had turned sour?
What I meant is their owners have changed the identity of the club.
Would you like it if the new owners proposed that we play in blue and white without any fan consultation?
Yes you did "Only 2 examples I know, but it can turn sour"
Not blue and white no as they're the colours of our rivals. Cardiff weren't changed to white like Swansea.
If someone pumped £100m into Charlton, got us into the premier league and wanted us to play in say black then i think i'd probably get over it. I know a change from red wouldn't be popular though.
So if someone said that they will change the colours, Badge, move stadium and get rid of Powell for that 100m would u take it
Colours i could live with being changed. Badge likewise. Teams changing badges isn't that uncommon these days. Stadium i would prefer not, but then we might be getting a new stadium anyway if you believe some rumours on this thread. Powell no.
By the time anyone could build the bleedin' thing who is to say Powell would still be with us anyway / or any good ?

Most sensible post I've seen on this thread. Good advice!
None of the conditions seem unrealistic or undoable. Sharing with Palace was a step too far and made us yearn for the Valley, but a number of clubs have moved without too many problems - Millwall, Man City, Arsenal, Derby, reading, Southampton, Middlesborough, Brighton, Stoke........ - the list goes on! If it is our ground and ticks the boxes, many listed by Seth, I won't oppose it!
Good post. Only one small point is that Derby have just renamed their ground but having said that as a stadium name Pride Park was never as iconic as the Baseball Ground but certainly a much better stadium. Personally I would prefer the Valley to be redeveloped but if we eventually move, so be it. It would, however, be rather disappointing if some years down the line the Valley name is consigned to history. As a matter of interest Derby C. have been at the Baseball Ground for 15 years and I doubt if their supporters are too bothered about the change of name if (as was published) it has boosted the coffers by a considerable sum.
Property and land.. Last we had lanera sponsers they went tits up.. Its a risky world unless by property its earl of westmister who owns knightsbridge and other mega rich areas...
Thought he was a Duke? And interestingly a General in the Reserve Army.
Hmm, imagine if someone changed our kit to, say, white shirts with red bits along the shoulders Even worse, they could change our nickname to the Robins, or even The Valiants :-)

So it is interesting that they would run this story now and be able to get a quote from Slater.
Shall we wait and see what happens before commenting on what it might mean (emphasis on might) ?

No-one has any idea whether this will even happen or what their intentions are, so why always assume the worst?
