I prefer the Greenwich Minutemen as a reference to our fundamental place in the history of time (quite literally).
Is there any sports franchise in the states where the first part of the name is not the name of a major city as opposed to a very small district in a city?
Well, Oakland (Raiders) likes to think of itself as a City but it's really just a suburb/port for San Francisco. The opposite applies to the New England Patriots who are based in Boston but their name refers to an area made up of six states. Then there's the Carolina Panthers who play in Charlotte and the Tennessee Titans in Nashville. In NBA there's the Brooklyn Nets (suburb of NY) and, the Golden State Warriors (Oakland again).
So it's not cast in stone. How about Charlton Village? We could have cheerleaders called the Village People.....
According to the article when he bought the Sixers they were: "an ugly duckling, perpetually mediocre. The most boring fans and songs, least star-studded franchise and their away/home % attendance was horrific. They were without a star and with no legitimate chance of winning anything, but were located in a big-time city"
I'm beginning to see why he might be linked with us......

I remember that CL piss up. maybe suggesting fancy dress AND allowing cameras was a bad idea. Still don't think a moustache suits AFKA
Price mentioned in SLP was 18m plus 7m director loans + 4m bank loan making 29m
Although actually the directors' loans are £8m, of which £1m to RM attracts interest.
It's quite funny that if any one of the dozens of people who have had this name had put it on here they'd have been shot down in flames, yet because it appears in the Mail it is taken as true. Not saying it isn't, just be cautious. I can tell you the staff and players haven't been paid overnight as usual (last working day of the month), even though the club is contractually obliged to do so.
That is poor, very poor and a good reason why we shouldn't rush to slap the current regime on the back for their shrewd management of the Club
It makes me really angry, and I feel most sorry for those in the offices who aren't on £xk per week but have "normal" jobs.
Hi do you know it's not just a systems failure?
Seem to remember KPMG staff didn't get paid one day last year when they were supposed to. Was simply an IT issue - nothing untoward. It does happen.

Contractually the club has to pay today so there is still time, but they have never failed to pay overnight in the past as far as I know.
if that is the contractual case, isn't it a little premature to be slurring this on the internet?
I think as has been said for we are in for a bumpy few months if not weeks/days, maybe we just need to wait and see. We should now be well practised at this
The picture of Qwest Field reminded me that there is quite a lot of talk about an NFL franchise being awarded to London - probably making 2+2= 5, but an American owner and ground sharing with an NFL franchise in a purpose built stadium next to the O2 has commercial logic at least.
And Mr Harris hasn't yet got an NFL franchise. Quite a lot of NFL teams still play on grass - so that shouldn't be an insurmountable problem.

very worrying comment from AB and for him to say it he must be very very sure.

When a company I used to work for got bought by Disney a few years ago it took around six weeks from due diligence to the actual acquisition. So I would stay in a state of heightened tension indefinitely.
Would be very pleased of it happened. I've had my doubts about Powell but I feel I was wrong and I hope we keep him if the takeover happens.
Disgusted about the staff and players not being paid.
To an extent I'd say TJ and MS reign has been a success here ie promotion, championship club and potentially sold to a bilionaire but then I think about staff not being payed, which makes me question how I feel about their stint
It is up to us to send a clear message out that we are behind Chrissy - Hopefully he will be set reasonable objectives, then it is down to him. I have every faith that with the right support, he will be successful. You only have to look at our promotion season. He has built up a solid unit that just needs a bit of tweaking here and there IMO and he can do that with some, but not excessive amounts of money.
Somebody likened us to Fulham (£200m). Whilst they are currently in the Premiership - long term we surely must be a much better bet. Also, a move to the penninsula could really take us up a notch if done right!

don't particularly read anything in that though.
