Had a nightmare last night that the board announced they would be leaving the Valley with immediate effect just before the game which happened to be against Portsmouth who were captained by Alan Ball strangely enough. The ground we were moving to was Grimsby's. I tried to storm the directors box but the only person I recognised in there was Chris Powell. Woke up this morning singing 'We won't go to Blundell Park'.
Meanwhile we are teetering on the edge of the relegation zone with ageing squad, many if whom will be out of contract soon, and current owners who are obviously not going to invest any more.
I hope this deal happens and I hope that in a few years we have the luxury to be able to chew the cudd over whether to stay at The Valley or move to a new state of the Art stadium.
In the meantime we need to stay up, go up and get full houses often enough to justify a 40, 000 capacity stadium, so this is all a wee bit down the road.
If all of those criteria are met then maybe we all need to consider that Charltons history didn't end in the 40s , 50s 00's or any other decade but is still being written - before we all get carried away with the negatives of a stadium move.
Incidentally I agree with some of the other posts on here- if thus was a done deal why leak it? Something's happening but is not finalised yet.
One last point; If I was a property developer I would be more interested in Sparrows Lane for the land, than the Valley.

Ageing squad? Look again.
Largely not suitable for this league as evidenced by our current position in it

Partly ageing squad
Which part? Top or bottom left or right?
Sorry we are a superb team of Premiership standard players all of whom are young and have four year contracts and will guarantee our meteoric rise up the table.

Heard somewhere there is not much chance of ever getting planning permission for much at Sparrows Lane (green belt or something?), if I am right then unlikely to appeal to a developer, so think that maybe one thing we don't need to worry about at least.

Football as I have known and loved it has passed into the dinosaur era. I personally don't like or want the new stuff, but I reckon I'm going to find myself part of an endangered minority species.
The way I see it all of this talk is somewhat irrelevant. They haven't lowered the price they're asking for the club out of generosity, it can only be because the time is arriving when they simply HAVE to sell.
I think what we should be really concerned about is what if the takeover doesn't go through. I have no confidence that there is plan for that scenario, like others have said the SLP story is clearly a plant and there are some pretty clear indications from the content of the article who has planted it. If the banks and previous directors accept any deal then that's enough for me, and all of this concern about the ground etc will simply have to wait.

If, and it's a bloody big if, we were managed a bit like Brighton in terms of a move etc. that was scalable and sensible I'd find it very hard not to approve.
I love The Valley- it's where me and the old man have had our closest moments, it's where I've met some really good lifelong mates and will have memories that I'll treasure forever but I can recall those memories wherever. If moving meant securing or enabling me to have more experiences like I have had over the past 21 years then I'll take it.
The Valley has been our home on and off since 1919. Players, managers and supporters have come and gone. The one constant apart from a brief spell at Catford and the forgetful ground sharing with Palace and West Ham has been the Valley and long may it remain so. Any move away from the Valley would be a betrayal to all those good folk who gave so much time and effort to make our return to the Valley in 1992 such an emotional occasion. No 'state of the art' stadium for me thanks.
12 pages and counting on this thread of going round and round in circles. Let's face it, nobody is going to buy us unless it's a rich fan who's got plenty of money to burn in the way that Jack Walker did with Blackburn. There is no business case for buying a club that's £40m in debt, losing £7m per year and plying its trade in the Championship. The business case lies in property development and whether we like it or not the club is probably heading for the Peninsula to play its football .Whether this happens, only time will tell. We've had so may false dawn over the last couple of years that I'll only believe it when it's on the O/S. In any event, I've been supporting Charlton since 1965, my son's middle name is Charlton. It's highly unlikely that I'm going to stop going if we move ground. so, onwards and upwards...Que sera, sera Whatever will be, will be. The future's not ours to see. Que sera, sera. What will be, will be...
I ask again is there not a "business case" for owning your own ground?
Yes, Len. You could put forward a business case for owning your ground but the business plan, IMHO, would need to be funded by a very wealthy fan who would be prepared to throw a vast fortune at the club without an expectation of getting it back. I don't see too many people stepping forward at the minute. If that fan existed, he or she would be backing the trust.

There are at least two other sports grounds in the immediate area to Sparrows Lane that people have been trying to build on for years, with absolutely zero success.

What if they redeveloped the valley so it was unrecognisable and was a state of the art stadium. But it was in the same place and was still called The Valley? Would that be ok?
It reminds me of the only fools and horses moment 'this broom has had 17 new heads and 14 handles'. 'Well how the hell is it the same broom then?'

all about opinions and yours and mine are polar opposites.
the manger and assistant contracts will be concluded within days i.imagine.
scps certainly by the end of next week if scp.likes what they got to say.
Asset value players mainly before many days of december have elapsed again if the players fancy it
New owners wont have any other option. They need easy wins to start with in terms of gaining support and trust

May not be to everyone's taste but it may be the only way to grow. Survival of the fittest, evolution etc all weeds out the 'weaker' species.
NANDOS DOME JUST SAY NO
