ROS is just under £60,000 ahead of Mark Selby in 2nd
The winner of the China Open gets £225,000
Mark Selby has won it 2 years in a row and 3 out of the last 4 years and ROS isnt even in the event
Good point. Think most snooker fans would agree that ROS is the true No.1 but because he doesn't chase every ranking tournament and doesn't really care about being the "official" No.1 and doesn't want the long haul flights to China (although he seems quite friendly with several of the Chinese payers), the disruption to his family life and doesn't worry about the money then he will never keep the official No.1 status for very long. Shame really. Expect to see Selby No.1 again soon.
Gotta say I disagee All weekend comms were saying its amazing that ROS enters so few events and could be world number 1, but he is clever and only enters the events with the most money availble so him winning 1 event earns him more than say a Trump on Selby winnng 2 or 3
For instance yesterday he won £150,000 the week before the gibraltar open winning got £15,000
He has publicly stated that he only wants to play the events that are at venues he likes and do not disrupt his personal life too much. He won't play in Gibraltar not because of the low winnings but because of the travel and the venue. He has never really chased the money otherwise the £225,000 first prize in China would be enough to pull him there. He just picks and chooses the events he wants to do and doesn't much care about the ranking/money. I am aware you don't like him so will find excuses to put him down - but he just does his own thing.
If you honestly think he doesnt care about the money/ranking pointa you are deluded.
The travel and being so close to the crucible is something that has stopped him going to China I agree, but you cant say he doesnt care about the money/ranking points.
My point was that its not so amazing as people like to think that he is world number one despite not playing in everything, when u look at the earning for the events he does play in compared to the others
You're right in that he does care but not enough to change his options. He has other priorities. It's still pretty amazing that he's No.1 with so few (although rewarding) wins - when most of the others chase everything (and who can blame them). It's only Selby and Williams in contention with ROS for No.1 and, as you said originally, a win for either in China and ROS will be knocked off the No.1 spot.
He keeps his game fresh by not entering everything. Similar to Federer not playing the clay court season. He has done particularly well this season though, winning more than half of the events he's entered. But I don't think he'll win the world championship.
I am not disputting his great season at all, he has done very well, what I am saying is that people say he doesnt care about ranking points/Money, IMO he clearly does and yes he picks and chooses events which keeps him fresh and good on him for doing that but what I am saying is that with the events he enters more often than not its the big prize money and winning those which has been good is why he is world number 1 ATM.
As I said winning that one event earnt him more than winning the Indian Open, Germans Masters and Gibralter Open combined would have done.
The thing is no one will no how much he is motivated by the points/money, unless he has a poor season next year and enters a few events he didnt this year.
China Open has just started, will try to do updates but they may all just come at 1 once, matches arr at stupid times(will for us anyway haha not for the actual event) great timing for the Addicks in China @Stu_of_Kunming@JessieAddick

In the absence of @paulie8290. Quick update. Big names dropping like flies in China: Selby, Williams, Trump, Higgins and Hawkins all out. Means Ronnie O'Sullivan will retain the No.1 spot for now. Nice to see Ken Doherty go through.
Due to the time difference and alot going on I havent been to up to date with the China Open but Neil Robertson won it with a 11-4 victory over Jack Lisowski
Stuart Bingham made Snookers 151st 147 and Stuarts 5th during the event, it puts Bingham joint 5th with Murphy on the list of most 147

I watched most of it all week - getting up early. Watched the first sessions of the final this morning to see Robertson lead 8-2. Then in the afternoon when the final session was going to be shown live on Eurosport they stayed with the motorcycle racing! Really annoying. They are showing highlights later but was a shame.

Slight off topic, I looked at betting on these qualifiers yesterday and choose 5/6 players who wasn't 1/10 on and only got back evens. Snooker betting is ridiculous, especially in these earlier rounds might have a look if there are closer games. Did also look to see if I can bet to qualify, couldn't find a market but only checked one site.

He earned 150 grand yesterday and you've just said that the China Open is 225 grand.
Nearly every player is competing for that prize but him.
It's absolutely unreal that he's world number 1. The season he's had is ridiculous.
But I don't think he'll win the world championship.

Gutted. Was hoping Selby could do the treble and win it for a 3rd year in a row.
You may have seen this before - I hadn't.

Ended 10-9 Judge, says it ended 3:52am CET I believe that is a late one!
Not one shock for me on the first lot, nice to see Joe O'Connor keeping his form up would be nice for him to get there.
cheers.
I enjoyed last years one, giving double points Semis/Finals really gave a few extra people the opportunity and Paulie the chance to win late on
Do we want a separate thread? or keep on here like last time? Can start once we get in the final stages of qualifying.
@paulie8920 any input? Did you want to help run or do anything for this.
Ignore that just checked Betfair have odds gone for:
