Can't believe for one minute that SCP is happy with this . If Ben H should pick up a knock in training before Saturday, Nick Pope is thrust into the first game of the season on Saturday . No disrespect for Nick but surely this is a nightmare scenario ? Really wondering what the hell is going on behind the scenes at our Club . Other Champ Clubs must be thinking the same & rubbing their hands.....
Agree with above comments 101%, just I striker and 1 experienced goalkeeper to start the season with. What the hell is going on! After our end of season run, I would have expected a lot of investment, not just the opposite. I hope I'm wrong, in the words of Jimmy Seed many years ago 'The Red is shinning'!
If Hamer picked up a minor knock, I'd have no problem throwing Pope in for a game or 2. If Hamer picked up a long term injury, then it's probably the easiest position to find a loan replacement for, as the PL clubs all have 3-4 keepers, many of which are very good but never get a game.
The fee to Spurs for Button was £200k but deferred until June 2013. Whether it had been paid, I rather doubt, so maybe this is to resolve that situation. But hopefully it is to free up money for a striker. After all, you can only play one goalkeeper at once.
Button in his limited time with us, had good and bad, its not like Hamer has put in Gordon Banks like performances week in week out. Any player that comes in after weeks bench warming is going to be inconsistent until they are up to speed fitness wide. CP's comments of reluctance do not indiocate a player he did not trust or have confidence in.
Not to worried about the GK situation - look at that dodgy keeper with no real experience (other than St Leonards Stamco) we chucked into the team up at Stoke back in 1997

How many more have we got on deferrals then?
In fact,I think I'd rather not know.
None that I know about. I think you have to understand that the reason we signed Button, as opposed to an outfield player who may have been more use, was that Spurs were willing to deal on this basis and other clubs weren't.
Similarly Stevenage accepted a delayed payment for Lawrie Wilson on the basis he couldn't play until we paid the down payment. Other clubs demurred.
Makes sense but a bit disheartening when you realise at this point in time, Brentford are stronger in the goalkeeper department than we are.
Mind you, every club in the country is in a stronger position striker wise than we are.....
Agree that given the situation, looking back it was a poor acquisition last summer given out limited budget. However, there were a hell of a lot of broken promises last summer, and I suspect this one was made when the situation probably appeared more positive than it emerged.
It is pretty depressing but I'm feeling positive for some reason. I think we may just see a few youngsters become Charlton heroes over the next couple of seasons. I'd rather see Pigott become a decent first teamer than splurge £?m on a striker.

That really is quite bizarre and hints at a level of dysfunctionality within the Club's decision making that is very alarming.
ok so weve lost fuller 10k pw kerkar 3k pw wagstaff 3kpw mambo, taylor 2kpw haynes 5kpw ok so its give or take a few k but about 20k pw cut from the wage bill which is about 1 mil, we have cut the wage bill to be smaller and cheaper. i reckon church would be about 2.5k pw and obika would be 6k thats 400k a year, plus our revenue will be bigger so we would make a loss of maybe 6 million compared to last years 7, all in all not bad situation to be in

What i think it hints at is that they thought they would have investment by now and paying off deferred fees this summer would be no problem.

Don't forget we need all contracts to end in June 2014.

If panicking is your thing then now would be as good as any.
