Of all the wingers Solly played against this season, Martin gave him the most problems. Ameobi, Delfounesco, Theo Robinson, all got the better of him in one-against-ones, but Solly worked them out after a poor start. Martin did it consistently in the first half at the Valley on Boxing Day and set up the second goal in the process, if I remember rightly.
However, he was pony at Ipswich earlier in the season. Too inconsistent and a bit of a headless chicken, although his pace can give any defender problems. Might be alright as a squad player and impact sub but can't see him as a first choice.
He was nothing like Ambrose because he actually tried even when it wasn't going for him. It's a pity his performance vs Posh happened at London road and not the Valley. Suspect a lot of people would view him a bit differently then.
He wouldn't be top of my wish list but I reckoned him a trier when we had him last time.
The fact he has something to prove makes him fit the Chris Powell signing profile. Local lad too.
Frankly I reckon Powell could Marcus Bent to put a shift in, so someone with as much natural talent as Martin would be a doddle.
Really think we could do worse, could also do better too. All depends if we're shopping in Waitrose or Aldi this summer.
I must by getting confused here , I though we were talking abou the Lee Martyn fella we had on loan from Ipswich that struggled to do the business in league one for us.

I suspect he was desperate to impress that day, as I'm sure he'd like to move permanently to The Valley. I'm not sure whether he does enough, though he has got talent. He did pick up a lot of stupid bookings in his loan spell though.
He has not been released - he is out of contact (as per circa 12 of our senior players) - he has been offered reduced terms by Ipswich, hardly surprising in view of the contract Roy Keane signed him on from Man U.
His recent playing record - League games in the Championship Season 2011/12 - started 28 games - Season 2012/2013 - started 33 games
I am not sure anybody can get to put in circa 150 championship appearances over 6 seasons with no end product at all.
I wouldn't put him left midfield ahead of Callum. With right midfield I think he would have the same problem that Danny Green has, ie lots of talent and occasional brilliance but not consistent enough to displace Pritch - and I don't think CP likes to play two very attacking wide men in the same team as a general rule. So he would be a decent squad option only and if we need one of those surely we would keep Waggy. If we bring players in, I hope they will be real higher quality than what we have, and I don't think Lee Martin is.
But we can't rule out a change of formation for next season. If there's no BWP, Hulse, Obika or Fuller and we struggle to bring in a higher quality forward than Kermorgant or Haynes, a 4-5-1 might not be out of the question. And I wouldn't mind seeing 2 attacking wide men in Harriot and Martin down the wings.
I think we should setup a trial for him, open up the stand gates, and then the fire exits, and watch him forrest gump out the Valley preferably to Palace where he might he work or send them bust. Must be on a lot of money even after Ipswich offered him reduced terms.

Maybe 4-5-1 now and then when we need to keep it tight, but I can't see CP adopting this formation on a regular basis. I wouldn't sign Lee Martin on a just-in-case basis. We have players who could do the additional winger role.

I can verify this as I can remember counting how many times he beat Solly in that game and it was like 5 or 6 times! And that is a big deal.
Big fan of Lee Martin and I know that he loved it at Charlton and wanted to stay when he was here but Jewell called him back. Powell was keen to keep him also but obviously the terms of the loan meant he could be called back.
As said if his display at London Road was seen at The Valley think there would be more clamour to bring him back. - The fact that he could beat Solly so often should be enough to convince people!

Did he set the world alight at Ipswich ? Did he play in the majority of their games this season ? Why is MM releasing him ?
Don't believe too many players return to their former Club and make it work.
Except of course our own Prodigal Son...

He's a nice guy off the pitch too.
