If he is the same player who was here 2 seasons back .. yes please .. BUT .. If he still were the same talented player, would shrewd old Mick M release him ?
No thanks. Regardless of his individual ability (which I think can be debated in any case), he was part of a failing set-up. The club has moved on now. Onwards not backwards.
I wouldn't put him left midfield ahead of Callum. With right midfield I think he would have the same problem that Danny Green has, ie lots of talent and occasional brilliance but not consistent enough to displace Pritch - and I don't think CP likes to play two very attacking wide men in the same team as a general rule. So he would be a decent squad option only and if we need one of those surely we would keep Waggy. If we bring players in, I hope they will be real higher quality than what we have, and I don't think Lee Martin is.

a good analysis .. I would see him as more of a potential central midfielder .. I think he might have the ability to play that role .. but as I commented above, I am always suspicious of a supposedly decent championship player being released by a very experienced manager.
Think he did well against us on Boxing day for Ipswich, liked him when he was here the first time although he didn't play to the best of his ability. Could flourish in a better team.
When we had him last time, he had a spark of flair about him and also had pretty good work-rate. He is a bit inconsistent, but in many ways fuses some of the better bits of Waggy and Green into one player. I think he'd be an improvement on both, albeit not a massive stride forward.
Much as I like Waggy, it seems to me Pritch has come in and done what Waggy does only better and there is no point keeping Waggy out of sentimentality, it doesn't really serve his or the clubs best interests.
I was under the impression that he was on big, big wages following his move from Man Utd to Ipswich. Without knocking the player I didn't think he ever justified the wages he was earning when he played for us.
This could be why McCarthy let him go. I would guess that he was probably earning close to four times his actual worth. Not a fault of his, of course, but I can see why Ipswich just released him. It would be a difficult discussion that I can't see his agent ever allowing the player to accept if he was going to be asked to have his waged cut by 75%.
He looked good for us in the third division but I'm not sure he would add enough in this division.
Thought he flattered to deceive. A few step overs and tricks but as has already been said not much end product. One game that springs to mind was Brighton away a couple years ago at the turn of the year at their running track, he should've had a hat trick. He's matured a bit but why doesn't Big Mick want him? Not sure he will add that much IMO.
I liked Martin when he was on loan may have improved a little more to! He's he the sort of player Powell would sign? I say yes coz he has something to prove and maybe unfinished business with us
Decent player, good pedigree, good championship experience, offers a different option in playing style, and in playing position, off the front man, or wide right or crucially left. Why crucial? Delighted with the progress of Harriott on the left flank but it will be a big ask for a young player to continue that form all season.
Two players for each position. Competition/ cover is always good. None of Green, Wagstaff, Pritchard or Wilson really offer a left flank option. Martin is an upgrade (no disrespect to Cook and Kerkar)
There maybe better left flank options in the "out of contract" market but not sure who they might be.....
Also i noticed ipswich released chopra too! I would have him here
Too much baggage with his gambling addiction. Clearly still some outstanding issues given his ban for race fixing at the start of this year. Shame as he was a player with potential.
Didn't Powell send him back as soon as he got the job?
So much talent, so little end product.
I thought he got recalled by his parent club in January? I seem to remember Powell saying it was a shame as he had looked good in training. Personally, I thought he flattered to deceive and not fussed about having him back.

Think I'm in the minority, however.
He'd start the season as an impact sub though.
He's got something a bit different, not exactly a big stride forward in ability though so I can see both sides of the argument.

Maybe we should be looking for better but he would be a decent addition compared to some that we have now.

Just my thoughts.
