  • The reality is that you will be able to purchase a ticket for any game, therefore following what has been served up so far, will people pick and choose?
  • Yes if course ill renew I will grumble and moan when it's shit but have the biggest smile on my mug when we win!
And that is what supporting a proper football club is all about!
To those that won't renew cos we don't win every game, see ya!
  • Will be renewing tomorrow morning. 100% behind SCP.

Will be thinking of all you lost souls stuck in Bluewater watching the missus try on another pair of shoes.

Get the security of a new season ticket before it's too late - you have been warned!

Everyone whose saying that we're not to expect to win every game is correct but I don't think anyone expects us to do that.

I do however expect us to win more than 4 home games after 18 home games. I also expect a bit of determination, urgency and fight and in the past few games the players have failed to show these traits.

On the subject of fair weather fans not renewing, I'm considering not renewing due to the cost. 210 pound for an 18 year old to come home p*ssed off every other Saturday doesn't sound like a good deal.

Fair enough but with respect you seem to be assuming that next season is going to be exactly the same as this season. Might be better and it might be worse. There are no guarantees in football and no two seasons are exactly the same. How would you feel if come October we were third and playing really well and you didn't get a ST? I'm not after an argument just genuinely interested in your answer

If it's just a case of finance then just ignore.

It's finance, if I didn't renew cos of money then is make the odd game at home but I'd go away more than home purely due to atmosphere and i wnjoy them more, win lose or draw. I'm saving for a holiday at the moment but once that's out the way then my financial situation will be a bit healthier.

My point more was that for people like myself not 100% sure about renewing due to finance, coming away annoyed near enough everytime won't help convince me to renew and go on even more of a budget for a few months.

    thanks for the response.

agree with you on the away days. always fun.
  • I don't care about losing but let's at least give a go,at least have a game plan? At least give us something to sing about and try and get behind the team?
Cardiff seems such a distant memory but proves the desire is there from both fans and players.
They need us to be behind them as well.
Yeh at times I have that feeling but the urge comes back as it could turn out to be another Cardiff game!

There are no such people, as you presumably know. Trying to make everything black and white doesn't help.
  • I've found it v depressing watching us at the Valley this season - I can cope with us not winning but having to watch such dreadful football numbs the spirit. Our midfield has been shocking and I can't see any signs of improvement.
The team are working hard but that's not enough.....

The original point of the thread was can't be arsed 'after watching some complete dross served up at home this season'. If you are not renewing because of financial or other such reasons then fair enough but if you are not renewing purely because you are not happy with how results have gone this season then you are not welcome anyway.

Wow, this is getting interesting. At the risk of sounding rude, who the fuck are you?

    Awfully sorry!

No its not worth the £50 petrol money and 5 hours of driving 300 miles every other Saturday on top of what I already pay for my season ticket. If money wasn't an issue I'd go to every match win, lose or draw.

So how do you decide when it is worth it? When we're playing well, by any chance?

BTW, sorry to be having a go at you, because you obviously are very dedicated, but when you decide that you have the right to decide who is and isn't welcome you are straying into dodgy territory.
  • Not sure if this helps or is even relevant to the debate...

Am a life long Bohemians fan and member (Kevin Feely's old club).

Moved to London 6 months ago for job reasons. I am living in Leytonstone. Football was by far and away the biggest thing I missed from home. Our league is far from glamorous - my club get an everage attendance of circa 1,200 hard core, rising to maybe 3-4k for bigger games / when success comes around. I used to be a Liverpool "fan" but gave that up to attend local games regularly. I didn't miss a game home or away for 6 years.

Arriving in London I was dying to go to games and "find a team". I started with Orient due to proximity. Then tried West Ham, Milwall, Charlton, Palace, Fulham and Brentford. I didn't want to go near the 'big 3' in London as I despise the pricing and lack of awareness amongst fans of larger clubs.

I liked Orient at first but began to find their brand of football and the attitude of some of their fans to my dislike. West Ham were interesting but not exactly the most welcoming of clubs to an Irish lad with no London connections. Milwall were just lunatics!

What I found with Charlton was an amazing stadium (pitch apart!!), a very impressive fan base and a very welcoming club with knowledgeable and friendly fans. I liked the style of football too. I've been to 7 Charlton games now and despite the poor results I really enjoy it. The prices are very fair and I think Powell always tries to play the right style of football. At £24, Orient's cave man football is hard to stomach.

I brought friends to the Burnley match and after filling them in on who I seen as the better players / one's to watch, it was to my shock to see the level of changes CP implemented!! The style of football was very different to what I'd come to expect - very direct. For what it's worth, my opinion is that he's a young manager feeling the heat a little and tried something different. His changes in the second half were admirable.

I guess what I'm saying is I think you guys have a good deal....

I know from personal experience with Bohemians that a clubs financial health and simple existence is all that really matters - if the club has a good footballing philosophy on top of that, it helps!!

I will be purchasing a 13/14 season ticket for the Valley and now look forward to every game.

I don't want to patronise any fans on here and appreciate you know this club better than I could even imagine, all I would say is that from an outsider looking in, it doesn't seem too bad.

What a lovely post. Stick around Bohemian, things will get better.

  • Maybe we could play Bingo! at half time?
  • CAFCTom I couldn't give a flying fuck for this sanctimoneous clap trap about being a true supporter. As Redpanda said in the 53 years I have supported Charlton I have seen some awful shit and at times have decided to save my money and do other things with my time but I have Never been anything other than a true supporter.

So all the while I pay for my season ticket with the money I earn I'll decide what I do with it. You want to pay for it I'll happily sit and watch crap so I can get my "true supporter" badge.

£300 for a season ticket is worth it. £1500 a year for me isn't worth it regardless of how well we are doing. Going to watch football every other Saturday isn't worth £1500 a season. If you are saying you are not going just because we are not winning isn't a good excuse for not going and doesn't make you sound like a good supporter in my opinion.

  • I just don't get where people are getting this 'not renewing cos we're rubbish' comment from.
    1) because I haven't seen anyone say it
    2) because we should all be used to us being rubbish!

But seriously I don't think people aren't renewing because we're rubbish at the moment, the thing that's made me question doing it is I'm on a tight budget as it is, why should I go even tighter to go and watch a team with no desire or fight at the moment?

I love this club, but I'm not enjoying it anymore, the valleys atmosphere is dead near on every game, the players seem like they've given up all hope of winning before we've even started and show no urgency or desire almost like they can't be bothered and that's not what you'd expect from a team managed by Chris Powell.
  • Red Division lasted a long time then :-)
  • Red Division lasted a long time then :-)

I've decided to not have anything to do with that name from now on. It's un-needed grief and a waste of time as the majority of fans wouldnt join in half the songs we started, still go to football with them but have decided that it's not for me.
  • Chaos in this thread
  • @BohemianAddick welcome and thanks for a great post.
  • If we lost all 23 home league games yet won all 23 away games I'd be happier than if we won 22 home games and lost the other 24 matches .......
Due to family committments I can't get to as many away matches now but I'm an unselfish enough person to accept its about how well Charlton do in the bigger picture than my own personal matchday happiness but I do understand the view of others who need to be entertained but after 36 years and visits to 70+ away grounds the entertainment need on the football pitch being a requiremnt disappeared a long long time ago
I'm sure our away numbers would improve ...... Well maybe not ........

Robbo on the wing who started the thread said he won't be renewing because he can't be arsed. But I agree most people should be used to it we are used to having one good exciting season once every 5 years or so. And we are having a better season than we have done for the last 7 years or so. Some people have short memories.

Top post Bohemian and it does make me feel a bit more positive.I often travel to the Emerald Isle as my partner's family live in Kilkenny.I have even been to Nolan Park to see the legendary Hurlers.

Could you give us a bit of info re Kevin Feely? I know he is a left footed centre back and I have hopes that he could get a game or two this season if we can achieve safety. There was a debate on here about his height because Football Manager and Wikipedia had different information ,with one claiming he was only 5ft9 and the other saying he was over 6ft.As you will learn size matters a lot to some of our posters.

Although from the SEL/Kent area originally I too now live in East London and often go to Brisbane Road, you are right about both the admission price and the nature of some of the fans, they make our supporters look positive.

Having said that when you look at the history of that club over the last 30 years and the need to sell off the corner parts of the ground to fund ground modernisation and accommodate the local NHS Polyclinic in the Main Stand,I can understand the extreme negativity to a degree.Believe it or not in the 60's,70's and early 80's Orient were consistently at what is now Championship level football.

Again, really pleased you have come on board the CAFC Rollercoaster, hopefully the football and results will improve.

Ha, cheers! Enjoying it so far anyway.

    The Championship is so competitive.

Budget wise where would Charlot be out of interest? I look at clubs such as Forest, Hull, Wolves etc and they seem to have a lot of big names who I'd imagine cost big money. The Charlton squad seems far more frugal so to speak.

Regarding Feely,I would say he's over 6 foot. Met him once or twice and being 6 foot myself he seemed a little taller. He made a huge impression at Bohs last season. He is very commanding in the air and has brilliant distribution. From watching football in England, especially outside of the Premier League, centre half's really seem to be very tall and physical. To me it's probably the hardest position to make a break through in. What makes him stand out is definately his ability on the ball and a team who like to play good football would suit him....hopefully Charlton! He would have learned the game playing alongside Owen Heary (League of Ireland legend with 7 league winners medals) and at times last year he commanded the whole defence on his own.
