Who else currently has no relegation worries ?

  • I dont think we will get relegated.
  • I have "some twat is gonna sack SCP" worries that's all. We will be ok-ish
  • Nope, I am still very confident we'll stay up. Despite some other posters saying they are not enjoying this season, I really rather am (except when we lose to Palace). We can and have beat good teams in this division and I don't doubt we will do the necessary again to stay in the Championship.

Soapy, dont take this as a 'SIr Chris out' comment, however, there are a few fundamental things that are troubling some of the faithful, and its not just recent.
I dont know about you, but since circa Jan 2012, we havnt been playing well. Towards the end of last season, we really slogged it through the league and got wins through Hoofball and a Solid defence and also lack of quality from other teams.
Now, i dont see a lot of difference this season in terms of a change of tactics, however, we are being caught more by the extra quality of other teams.
What people see is a lack of ability to change tactics to 1) counter other teams and/or2) change our style. In actual fact, we dont even see substitutions most of the time - or until they are too late.
Thats what people are concerned about.
Something i noticed from Hughes commentating the other game, was that he always mentioned 'Dyers tactics' or 'Dyers feeekicks' - does this possibly mean that 1) Dyer isnt as good as people thought? or maybe 2) Chrissy doesnt take his advise during games ?

Again , this aint a Chrissy out- however, his (non) decisions have caused some doubt amongst the general public.
  • I don't remember him especially mentioning Dyer's tactics over talking about Chrissy, the only thing i remember is him making a jokey comment about if we score from this set piece, im going to claim it is one that Dyer had us working on in training.

Sorry but if our performance in the second half of last season consisted of us 'not playing well' then I really don't know what more we can really ask for.

You do realize that we won 6 of our last 7 games? And that we only lost about 3-4 games between the whole of January-May?

"Slogged" through the league!? Seriously?! We pissed the bloody thing!
  • Not worried at the moment, but it only takes one week or two of results to go against us and we're right in the mix.

Need to start grinding out wins to secure our place for next year, otherwise I can see it going to the wire.

Tom, i know i should have qualified this when i put the post up - but seriously, although we stormed the league in terms of points, we didnt storm the league in terms of performances in the second half of the season, in my eyes, it was a 'slog' to get over the line, mainly helped by our colossal defence and the ineptitude of our oppos - it didnt come from our superior tactical application thats for sure - unless you call hoofball to Kermy a tactical masterpiece.
It was a slog tactically, and we still seem to be 'slogging' now !

Yes, it was a tactical masterpiece - because it always worked and nobody else thought of doing it!

We're probably playing nicer football at the minute than we have been most of the season but not getting the points. I'd happily take hoofball and dirty tactics for points though.

  • Strictly speaking, the answer to the question ''Who else currently has no relegation worries?'' is Cardiff, Hull , Watford, Crystal Palace, Leicester,Middlesboro, Brighton ,Blackburn,Derby, Burnley, Forest and Leeds.

After that, there are only 11 pts seperating the bottom 12 clubs. Nine of them will escape. Three of them will not.

The three teams with the worst results over the last month are Millwall, Charlton and Wolves. I'm pretty certain none of that trio will go down. But with 14, 15 and in some cases 16 matches still to go, it would be complacent for any side in the bottom half of the table to believe they are safe. In these backs-to-the-wall circs, some sides find hidden reserves. Others wilt under the pressure. But Powell is certainly not foolish enough to believe that Charlton do not have a fight on their hands.
  • Just hope we don't collapse after January like we have done in the past. (Curbs era and when Powell first took over).
  • we are NOT going down

Not so sure about Wolves, they are in big trouble and tomorrows game at Barnsley is massive!
  • I know of one regular poster on here who's shitting it about getting relegated. Eh pigster?

    Due a blip then.

    Parp!
  • We have had our blips this season trust me.
  • We have had our blips this season trust me.

If that turns out not to be true, you will still be here online as much right or will you be nowhere to be seen like your last blip?
  • As ever, I do try to make an appearance on Charltonlife win, lose or draw.

  • Crickey OP , you don't half spend some time on here , don't you have a coal pit too dig?
  • No mate, but I'm tucking into some eels atm.
  • Wolves look in big trouble MASSIVE loss vs Barnsley, they still have Doyle what's he been doing all season? Plus the appointment of Dean Saunders doesn't set the world alight.

Hudders have been in freefall past few months think they'll be the ones to drop in the end.
  • I would love to see wolves go down just for the way they treated McCarthy I don't like big mick but he deserved better from them IMO

    Millwall
    Wolves

And a n other except us would be great

The way it's going, could be Hudders, Wolves and Millwall ... but Bristol not looking good so however far the Spanners fall, they will probably avoid relegation.

Wolves to do a Charlton and spend 3 years in division 3 ... I assume they have a big wage bill so this is going to hurt
  • I have to say Hudds are looking dodgy. However, don't forget they played late Sunday in the FA Cup & then had to play 2 days later. Unfair on them & I'm not surprised they were tonked. Still don't know how Leicester may have played us on Wednesday & Hudds played on Tuesday.
  • Played a variety of sports for too many years to risk predicting an unqualified, " No Worries" ("kiss of death and all that"), but I will be happy with a mid-table finish. After last nights display, they have proven they are capable of survival...
  • Powell saying we need 55 points in the todays SLP. Still say that 52 will suffice imo.

Agree with that, the problem this season is that no one has sunk without trace yet and the Division is so close between 6th from top and 3rd from bottom.

Tonight and Saturday we need to avoid defeat, but wins would be bonuses.Let's then beat the Spanners and lift the mood a bit.

  • After a few defeats and only 6 points off relegation, its natural people are more inclined to post fears.

So who else currently has no fears whatsoever ?

    I don't.

Obviously that will change if we lose the next three, but at this point in time I see absolutely nothing to suggest we are in a relegation battle. We've had a few games where we haven't had much luck or an individual error has punished us, but we've been playing decent, the squad seems tight and together, and I've seen worse teams.

Don't expect everyone to agree, but if you do then this is the thread to pipe up in.

We're 7 points clear with a superior goal difference to any of the bottom three. I'm not worried at all....but you can ask me again tomorrow morning.
