Morrison has been consistent all season, and made one mistake. Cort, had been a liability of late, until Milwall when suddenly he came good. Dervite, early days but showing promise. Taylor, I think we really miss him. IMHO. Wiggins, not having a proper left back is a major problem, although the awesome Solly is doing a remarkable job on the wrong side of the pitch. Wilson, getting better and better.
Overall a fairly good defensive unit, for selection. Even better when they are all fit. It's a selection headache that most managers would love to have.
Didn't think Morro did that much wrong; awkward header that fell the wrong way to a top striker who finished very well. Just one of those things. Sure, there might be something to be said for the odd game on the bench to sharpen the desire but, for me, I feel we would have beaten Millwall had Morro started so that tells me he is an important player for the make-up of the side. I felt that his absence at Millwall left us playing too defensively, hence their pressure and our lack of creativity up front.
Was good to see Hamer having a word with Morro after the first goal. No ranting or pointing fingers, just an arm around the shoulders and a "Forget about it and move on" kind of chat.
I think Cort is a much better CB than Morro. Cort has not put a foot wrong all season where morro has twice now & it has cost us.
How can Powell justify taking Leon out to accomdate a CB who is not as good as the one he is replacing?!
I don't know if Cort is better than Morro (though he does have a LOT more experience at Championship level - he really was a steal as a loan/free transfer last season). What is true, is that Cort was dropped for the game, which was a major call to make, with Cort being ever present up to now, especially after the clean sheet last weekend.
Dervite is better with the ball at his feet than Cort and given Brighton's pace I think this is why he got the nod. We have three good centre-halves which we should be happy about.
As mentioned already on the thread, we are blessed with great center backs - indicated by the fact that Matt Taylor who was a regular 1st teamer last season is now 4th choice behind Morrison, Cort and Dervite.
What I like about the Cort-Morrison partnership is that between them they offer pretty much every trait you would want in a defensive pairing. Cort is brilliant in the air, Morrison very decent too. Cort may lack the on-the-ball footballing ability, but Morrison more than makes up for that - very assured in possession.
Both are capable of scoring goals too. Infact, am I right in thinking that Morrison has scored more with his feet than with his head for us?
It'll be interesting which combo plays vs Bolton. I imagine Cort will be back to mark Kevin Davies, whereas against the Massives a week later, we'll need to play all our CBs to counter the attacking threat of Miguel Llera :-)
Cort is a damn good defender but with his mobility & speed (or lack therof) Mackail Smith would have eaten him for breakfast. Dervite is quicker and did a much better job against MS than Morro even.
To start critising Morro is way over the top. He is a top class centr half. However Powell does have difficult decisions to make here. Cort was very unlucky to be left out after a magnificant display against Millwall. Dervite is developing very well and looked classy on Saturday. Morrow certainly had it tough against one of the best strikers in the league but he made 3 mistakes not 1 that everyone talks about. Besides the header, he mistimed a tackle to give away the free kick and unless I'm mistaken it was between him and Hulse that ball went through in the wall.
As far as I can remember it was the first time that I have ever seen a crowd applaud someone after his mistake cost us a goal. A brilliant show of sympathy and respect to perhaps the first name on the sheet every game. You should all be aware that the only person I know who has never made a mistake is my Wife god bless her.

Don't think it's really fair to call a deflection when you're in a wall a 'mistake'. He was getting in the way of the shot, which is what he's supposed to do. Pot luck where the ball rebounds to and it was unfortunate that it happened to go in the goal rather than to another defender or into Hamer's hands.
I think there are 4 players in the team that pick themselves. Hamer, Solly, Morro and Wiggins when fit. I think Wilson will one day also pick himself.
Don't like that.
I think Powell should pick the players not the players themselves.
Are we turning into some sort of communist collective or are the players now so powerful that they can demand to play. Just what is wrong with football these days due to the Bosman ruling by the EU.
I think the fans should vote each week for their favourite players in an X Factor style vote - we'd do a much better job than CP. A lot of us can make an informed decision on a player after seeing them play for 30 Minutes whereas Powell insists on watching them in training and giving them a few games before making a judgement.
Would keep the players on their toes if they feared getting dropped each week. Most of our fans are very well-balanced and don't make knee-jerk judgements - players are always given a fair chance.
I for one understand what FK is trying to do. He's heard something on the radio, or other media snippets and he's realised that he's heard the same thing before, a la Middlesborough. He then tries to get a balanced opinion from the people on this site who can go to the games more regularly. I don't see anything unreasonable about this and the reaction of some people on here is not fair. From the viewpoint of somebody that doesn't get to see the games as much, he has made mistakes for two goals so this can understandably cause concern. That is all that gets reported not the fact that he's an absolute rock that was a huge part of our success last season and the start me have made this season, with the best away defence in the division.

I respectfully disagree. If I said listening on the radio it appears that Powell's tactics aren't always correct & isn't it about time we considered sacking him ? I wonder what reaction I would get ?

Nowhere near the same is it.
There's a suitable replacement already part of the Charlton squad to come in for morro.
I don't think Morrison should be dropped by the way.

As said he'll probably be back against Bolton.

Morro knows he's dropped a clanger and will more than make up for it I'm sure.
Would take him in the centre of our defence rather than some of the guff we've had there over the last 7/8 years.
