  • Seems that whatever has happened Powell has kept the full commitment of the players.

Yes, we need to start winning games, especially at home but with luck and no more injuries that will come.

Can anyone tell me who played where in midfield? Wilson on right and Dervite in front of back 4 but how did the others line up?
  • Very good point regardless if Leeds looked poor. Elland Road is a very tough place to visit especially after such a dismal performance at the weekend. Well done to SCP for having the cahones to make those changes and well done to the lads for digging deep. As for any supporter who can make that journey on a Tuesday evening. Sir / Madam you have my respect.
  • I have felt that CP is too conservative in team selection and substitutions during the game, so when he announced a team that virtually mirrored mine I was well impressed. Did not realise Danny Devito played mid field. One of the important things about last nights result is its affect on CP and the teams morale after Saturday. Not sure It's a watershed moment or turning point but is far better than what I predicted going into The Wolves game.
  • From that report in the Yorkshire Post it would seem Charlton turning up was nothing more than an inconvenience to writing a piece about a drab Leeds. Mealy mouthed piece of journalism there.

    Spot on!
  • Looking at Octobers points total I went for 5, I thought 4 from the 2 home games and 1 from any of the 3 aways.....got this all wrong but another draw on Saturday and I will have my 5 points......just hope we can pick up on the home form.
  • A vigorous pat on the back for CP, the midfield problems were there for all to see, but the team choice for me showed not only bravery but imagination. The lads must have been nervous and feeling down, but their response was superb, plus the commentators said that Charlton supporters made the home crowd seem quiet and I never thought I would hear Valley Floyd Road ringing out at Elland Road. Respect all round.
  • SCP had to change things after Stephens tweaked his hamstring in the warm up - he was originally down to play, with Pritchard stepping in.

  • Sounds like the the biggest factor in us being in the bottom half and not the top has been the officials. No wonder Sir Chris blew a gasket at half time! We have been given absolutely nothing all season and these clowns have cost us so many points. I reckon we are about 10 points down thanks to them. They say it evens itself out - well there is some amazing evening going to happen then - I can't wait!!!!
  • Wasn't there, but I think that having four wide players who can get forward and are playing on their natural side probably takes a lot of pressure off the struggling central midfield and, more importantly, gives them an easier out ball so they're not just hoofing it relentlessly.
  • When the massive 350 strong away support brought by Charlton out sing the Elland Road crowd, there is something seriously amiss.

    Love it :-)

Being at the game I must admit when I saw the team he was putting out I thought we were in for a beating. How wrong I was. We thoroughly deserved a point and nobody would deny we actually deserved all three. Formation was 4-1-4-1 with Devite playing just in front of the back four and Hulse doing everything up top and both did very well in those roles although Hulse wouldnt have scored if he had still been out there now.

Our passing was slicker and quicker than it has been of late and it was interesting to me that not only is Solly a very good player he took a lot of responsibility on the pitch as one of the senior members of the team even giving Jackson a rollicking for a misplaced pass. Jackson looked much more comfortable in the middle where his lack of pace was less evident and he kept the ball well for us. Evina also did well but special praise for Wilson who looked at home on the right side of midfield, both in attack and defence. Neither Green or Wagstaff will be first choice now in that position in my opinion. Weak links were Kerkar who looks too easily knocked off the ball and doesnt have the speed or guile to beat a player so a lot of our forward plays broke down on the left. Contrary to a lot of views I dont get Pritchard and still dont after yesterday but to be fair he was a very late pick and did reasonably well. BWP did very well when he came on and was very unlucky with a superb turn and shot from the edge of the box which was brilliantly saved. Hamer, Cort and Morrison were all very solid as usual.

I think yesterday told us we have a reasonably deep squad of players all with similar abilities. Perhaps we just need the odd star player which hopefully may be waiting in the wings in the shape of Fuller, Kermogant and Wiggins but I expect quite a high turnover of players in January especially on the outgoing side.
  • Great result but still only a point but a point more than I expected

Good to hear the handful that made it to Elland Road got right behind the team , although surely that's what you do if you're crazy enough to go up there midweek or down there if you're living in Newcastle

As Afka says that was a brave move by SCP with some of those changes , he who dares rodney he who dares

    0% top 6 .....7th-12th 10% .....13th-21st 70% .... Relegation 20%

normally more or less agree with your percentages ... however I think you are being far too pessimistic with the relegation figure ... every game has been close result-wise and our goal difference is very healthy for our position ... I see relegation as only 5%
  • @Brunello "although Hulse wouldnt have scored if he had still been out there now." because he was poor in friont of goal or did not have the service?

To be fair it may have sounded a harsh comment but I thought he played well as the lone stiker but he just looked better with his back to goal than when facing. He certainly isnt a forward who is going to score from corners or free kicks and not sure he has the pace to get on the end of anything in the six yard box. I dont recall him missing any chances but then again I dont recall him having any.

When BWP came on for the last ten he created two very good opportunities that Hulse didnt do or couldnt do.

  • Superb! I think 99% of would have taken a point up there given Saturday's performance, also sounds like we could have/ should have won! special praise to SCP and his staff for making a number of changes to personnel and formation.......could this be the starting 11 that takes us into the top half? Also good to now see we have a Championship class squad...(ok Davey slow down its only an away point!!) Lets get going again on Saturday at Wolves - THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT! COYR!!

Great result, even though I predicted a 1-2, due to injuries I though we were in for a kicking.
Really pleased for Wilson, and Pritch as well. I saw the goals on Sky and there was a push on Cort, but I'm resigned to the fact that we are not getting any kind of break from the officials at the moment. Devittes goal was well placed and his celebration was very spirited, sounds like he's one of us now...

Excellent management by Powell and Dyer, it takes bollox to make wholesale changes, well done chaps.

And after reading the reports of those that went, what to do with Stephens? Hmmm..........
  • Big thanks for the feedback from those that went.

It seems evident that the team setup had a balance and synergy that has been missing lately.

Whoever it was that reckoned we'd lose 6-0, didn't take account of the spirit and determination that this set of players has!

    ;o)

  • Well done CP. Brave selection but it has paid off several fold. Not just taking an away point at Leeds but also demonstrating to the squad that, if they measure up, the opportunitirs will come. Nice some to have some positives as there are players in the team that I suspect can only get better!
  • As strange as it sounds Hulse is not there to score goals - nice though it would be! - he is there as a great big, strong lump who can hold it up and give us an 'out' ball.

If he can keep us ticking over till Fuller gets back then he will have done his job.
  • Love going to Leeds, i was concerned we had set up to negative with 6 defenders on the pitch! was proved very wrong.
Really good performance would have taken a draw travelling up was disappointed we hadn't got the deserved win travelling back.
Decent turn out for a Tuesday in Leeds created a good atmosphere, home fans were very quite
    Same team for Saturday?
  • BBC report is as a 'dour draw'. Seemed an exciting game from the updates?

Yeah it was end to end for like the last 20 mins according to the radio and the first half wasn't that dull either. Then again the BBC is shite. I couldn't keep up with all the typing there was so much going on.
First half was ok, second half was great, we looked really dangerous on the counter and our defence was immense
  • Just seen goals on ssn.

Defo foul on Cort but Hamer needs to do better and really should have saved it.
    Nice hit from Dervitte.

Great point for us and sounds like we should have nicked it.
  • I suppose the downside is that we should have done better with the chances we had.
  • What a great night. First time to Elland Road and it didn't disappoint. In the end so close to my prediction of 2-1 to us.
For us (between 350 and 400 don't know exact numbers) to out sing Leeds was terrific. Kept them quiet all game. They obviously expected to be higher than current position and are becoming frustrated with the players and as we became stronger throughout, most of the noise from Leeds end was of disappointment (something we have done ourselves at home in the past).
Certainly would have taken a draw on the way up (not only for being Leeds away but our performance on Saturday) but deserved the full three points in the end. If it wasn't for the multiple saves from Kenny we would be all delirious here with the win in our pocket. How he got to Bradleys last shot I don't know.
Yet again the officials are a talking point. The ref made too many mistakes for my liking and the linesman by us didn't have a great game either. I haven't seen the goal again but i'm sure Cort was pushed for the Leeds goal. Wright Phillips being booked for lobbing Kenny when he hadn't seen the linesman put up his flag.
Hulse was very strong on his own, certainly knows how to keep the ball up while everyone joins the attack. Dervite goal was quality and well deserved. Wilson had a great game, plenty of attacking from him and decent crosses.
I could go through the whole team with positives, everyone put in strong performances and showed alot of character against a team that most thought we'd get nothing but a large negative goal difference.
Wish I was going to Wolves now.

  • Is Dorian Dervite Jonny Jackson's identical twin?

On top of all this, we're still yet to lose a game by more than a single goal. When the season ends, we're going to be in the top 10 when it comes to goals conceded. We just need to claw our way out of the bottom 5 of goals scored.

That record also probably shows the spirit and fight within the squad, that we play until the final whistle and won't roll over for any opposition.
