  • great news if true Paul is a gent, why does the chairman have to be the money man he isn't at a lot of clubs, Gartside hasn't bank rolled Bolton,Niall Quinn didn't bank roll Sunderland. I would have thought Paul would tick a lot of boxes for potential investors in the club, but heyho keep knocking everything that happens at Charlton at the moment.

Aint that what most are saying and implying mate

Opens the doors to potentially forward thinking investors

There are lots of positives to it but changing chairmans is big news and warrents questions

    As to why

We have been told by the club abd MS that all changes were part of the 5 year plan and were just board room reshuffling
  • I agree you dont need dough but normally your put in place by people who do

And i just wonder if this is TJ or someone else

  • PAGE 1 first 20 or so posts negative, but pretty usual, i'll just go back to reading again but as said previously some threads get my goat and this one does, having met Paul on a few occasions in my opinion it would only be a positive as he is a very astute person.
  • Yeah. Really odd move!
Getting somebody in that actually knows something about the game. What next?
  • Slater will be gone by January due to the fall out with TJ and Cash. There are people trying to put togethor a consortium to buy out TJ, however he will play hard ball. Elliot would be part of the TJ set up.A slick and proffesional team with well recognised faces. 2013 could be interesting.

Was told a few weeks ago that there are a couple of groups waiting in the wings to buy us. No reason to doubt my source as his client is TJ. Making PE the chairman is just the first part of the jigsaw, IMHO.

  • Well done to the ITKs for scooping this one.

    Well, quoting a tabloid...
  • I certainly don't have a problem with it but the questions it throws up are almost endless. It's certain that he has no financial input so he has been approached and appointed by someone. My money is on TJ. He is I believe slowly ousting the others involved and as we all know hates any form of attention and is not media friendly. Someone respected and eloquent like Paul would be very media friendly and knows all the right people at the top end of British football. I doubt very much we are looking at new ownership any time soon including Spartak Charlton but just a shift towards TJ and whoever is backing him. Just my view.

  • Whereas on this one.....

True - Just read some of this thread
  • Good move, I wonder who the new COE will be?

I don't really care what colour our chairman is , black , white , green or even orange, as long as his heart and head are in the right place , thats what really matters.

Totally agree with this...except the part about him being orange.

Having slept on it the more boxes PE seems to tick. I doubt there's a more respected ex-player out there currently in any sort of of administrative or public role for instance. As others have said the Chairman is not always the money or the power behind the business but they usually are it's public face and if this story is true then, from that point of view, I'd be a happy man to have PE & CP representing my club.

Look at the plum my local club have to put up with for a contrast!

  • He's tall enough.
  • Good move, I wonder who the new COE will be?

Paul Elliot as Executive Chairman ie doing the hands on CEO job full time.

  • When I said he is not Charlton man, I meant we are hardly falling over him with his constant valley attendance. He,s far more likely to take up his free seat at Chelsea. Yes, he turns up for the anti racism stuff, and that's obviously close to his heart. But that does not make him a Charlton man.

I think someone posted on here that he was at charlton rather than an Important Chelsea match
  • I feel quite optimistic by this, I know paul, not to phone up and chat or anything but we spent Sunday mornings watching our boys play football for a few years and obviously socialised after and at presentation, etc. haven't spoke for a few years now but he is a very thought out person and very intellectual. I honestly couldn't see him going to a club on its ars, that's what I see good in this as I thought we were up the creek without a paddle.

Who cares? I've worked for companies whose products I wouldn't choose to consume/use. But I fully understood the markets they were aiming at and I did my best for them.

I've no reason to doubt that Paul Elliot would do his best for us if this turns out to happen.

Also, like others, intrigued as to what is driving the move but I'm not sure we'll know this for a while (again, if it happens).

  • But one thing we do know is mr slater would rather watch man city.
I find it hard now to like the man after i spent my hard earn money following charlton the same night he was watching man city
  • Why would we have a new chairman on the way in before new owners? Surely they'd want to pick their guy?
  • The days of expecting club chairman to be local businessmen who are life long season ticket holders are long gone so this is a complete non-starter of an argument.
  • If it is the case he must be fronting it for a consortium. I also think he would be a great choice. He is highly thought of, very articulate and intellegent, he is also a genuinely nice bloke, when I lived in Chislehurst so did he and he had time for anybody who spoke to him.
  • I'd be happy with this as long as there is financial backing behind him ... Powell and Elliott together would always have the interests of the club at heart ... he's well respected just like Chris and would do us a lot of good

Would be keen having a couple of south londoners and charlton men to boot in powell and elliot at the helm.

Not so sure about Russians who probably don't even know who the club are really if the other rumours have any truth.
  • What is this rumour about Russians?
  • Rumours about a new Russian lot being interested. See Clem and Beds posts earlier in the thread.
  • Russian stuff abit odd, pretty sure natural gas is their main thing, oil not so much. Doesn't rule out a small group of individuals I guess
