Weird signing, even more baffling was we gave him 18 months, should've just offered him a 6 month deal meaning he had something to prove.

Hopefully this follows the one in one out policy and we can get someone in on loan, hopefully a CM but more likely DnG

Who is going to be the next poor sod that a few decide they don't like, and constantly get them calling for him to leave? Francis, Hayes.....in recent months, there has been a almost endless list!
Whoever it is, I already feel sorry for them!!!!

Well said, there seems to be,in modern life as well as Football,a need to have a scapegoat and Clarke fits the bill.As did Parky,Francis,McCormack etc.Somebody needs to be held up to blame to make the individual making that criticism feel better.I wish this scapegoating would end,but it won't.You will be next in the pipeline,it has started with Jackson, even though he scored 14 goals for us last Season.
  • I remember on his first (only?) start against bury at home he had a 1v1 early on he pushed straight at the keeper. If that would have gone in who knows... Still he was terrible and massively unfit, but good luck to him, ans hopefully they'll take him permanently!

The guy looked like he was running in treacle the few times we saw him.
I wish him luck at Scunny though.
  • I remember the chance he had to make it 2 nil at Hillsborough but showed lack of confidence in himself by passing to Pritchard instead of putting it in the back of the net, he might be seen a little different by a fair few on here if he had scored in that game.

May mean a bit more money is now available to sign a player, on loan or a free ourselves l

He was utterly woeful. Clearly had no interest in playing for us. Don't care how he ended up on our books. Hope he never comes back.

To be fair to him Powell said he's not complained once and has been training well, so I say good luck to him. He was never going to be a big player for us, but he has had an unfair amount of stick on here IMO

I'm glad he's going because of what he represents. As BFR says, Chris Powell didn't seem to want him - so what the hell was he doing there then? Championship Manager stuff...

Your glad he's going of what he represents? Strange comment.

Chris Powell didn't seem to want him? Are you saying that Powell did not want him then and the board signed him instead?

He came in I would think because at the time he was 3rd or 4th top goalscorer in the league with Chesterfield, Benson clearly had no future so it made sense at the time, I seem to remember a large number of people on here thought it was a great deal!

Seems like Di Canio was on too him after all about his attitude

    Yep. Same as Alonso.

Id say it is very hard to judge someone on a bust up with Di Canio who is not exactly a calm guy and i can't find anywhere from people who have worked with him saying he has a bad attitude, im glad he is gone as he is not good enough for us but not sure why people hate him or insist he has a bad attitude?

Maybe it is the mythical BWP is lazy syndrome that many seem to have had to?

So the board went over Powell and bought Clarke/Alonso. Any others that the board signed without Powell's say so?

I think the board wanted something in return for benson rather than just for free and saw one of the leading scorers in the league at the time a very good replacement for hard cash.

Alonso was a vetere signing that was probably given Powell's blessing as a test for vetere's scouting connections. If it would have paid off then we'd probably be blessed with a bunch of european players we'd never heard of with decent pedigrees (like alonso). But it didnt work out.

    Thats my theory anyway.

    Not to my knowledge.

Thanks for that PA, I did wonder why CP had bought a player who he very quickly decided he did not rate, now we know he did not.

Benson was frozen out by TJ after a club bid about 200/- for him and he refused to go. Eventually Swindon showed an interest and Clarke was the make weight. IMHO Clarke wasn't a Powell signing, also I heard some of the current squad already knew him and did not get on, allegedly.

I'm not quite sure where all the bile is coming from, but I guess my take on this is just as damning. I can't remember him doing anything.
  • Although he wasn't great for us, he did score 9 goals for chesterfield before Christmas.
