I hope to god that someone shoves that microphone down the pitch announcers gob when the teams come out. That is "ultra" embarrasing. lets be fair, our lot chanting the usual bollocks, and their ultras - not much in it IMHO.
?? Our pitch announcer?
Just a bit confused with your comments. I may be reading them wrong.
The way he rattles on about making some noise etc... Introduce the two teams, then do one. I don't need someone to tell me to get behind the team, make some noise. Bloke is a complete dick

Ever think perhaps it's for the benefit of people other than you ?

I take it you don't remember the last bloke then?
Anyway, our "complete dick" will probably be along here in a minute, so I presume you have got well thought out and robust reasoning for that statement. I look forward to hearing it in due course.

Just a little thought about football rivalry, folks. I see and hear the words 'Despise', 'Scum' and 'Hate' mentioned in relation to supporters of our neighbouring clubs. Can we not accept that we, for whatever reason, support Charlton Athletic, and, meanwhile, others choose - for whatever reason - to support Crystal Palace, Millwall or whoever? I'm all for friendly banter, ribbing, bragging rights, etc, but is there not enough strife in the world already? Remember, please, that it was not the Palace fans that had us move to Selhurst Park. It was a financial decision, decided upon by the management of the time. Football fans have a common enemy - the commercial greed that pervades the modern game and has driven many clubs to the wall. I humbly suggest that we leave hatred out of it, and let the football do the talking.
No I hate the stripey bastards ...............was it friendly banter when they attacked women & children on the train ?

He is on here mate and I love it when he gives it the make some noise.
So your slating our fans and saying the ultras are on a level with us.
Thought I'd seen it all when I read, on another thread, how some fans would have preferred Sheffield Wednesday to lose on Saturday - as if they're bigger rivals to us than millwall. However, this one tops the lot. A Charlton fan slagging off our pitch announcer AND comparing our fans to "ultras".
What determines whether an addick hates Palace or Millwall more?
I was there in the Selhurst days but still my feelings against Millwall are far greater than those concerned with Palace.
Does my dislike of Millwall come from the 2-2 at the old den all those years back when we were 2 up with 5 to go or from the new years eve in the Greyhound in Eltham when just for being Charlton one of them tried to bottle my mate over the head on his way to the bar?
Therefore when it comes to hating Palace more I just don't get it. Are younger supporters swayed because of the 'recent' rivalry of sending Palace down or that it's easier to hate a nerd than a neanderthal?
Or is it that some went to school, work with, come from the same area or have Millwall mates?
Or just that there's more in common with a Millwall supporter than a Palace one? I mean a penchant for terrace wear and the powder that seems to keep the economy of bermondsey thriving?
Even so, let's bury Palace in a couple of weeks and pray that League One awaits them.

Completely disagree. I think DL is pretty good, certainly better than what we've had before. I'm not keen on the "you know what you've got to do" bit, but everything else he does is very good.

More likely to hate Millwall more if you used to be W Ham :-)

You've been on here for ages. If you had a problem with BDL why wait until now and why not take it up with him in private?

Agree to an extent. Never see the point in hating another club. Will enjoy the banter with Palace friends and hope we win though. BTW, agree with the poster who commented on the 'Palarse' name thing. It really is rubbish and pretty embarrassing.
If Charlton won only four games this season as long as it was against Palace and Millwall that would be enough for me .The last time we played Palace at the Valley i was there, hatred for Palace you bet. Goes back to late 1960s beat them in fa cup replay at Selhurst when over half the ground was taken over by Charlton, but missed out on Division One by finishing one place below Palace that season,it began then and started to grow greater each season. We would have to wait six years to get are revenge winning 1-0 and being promoted from Division Three leaving Palace to play against Millwall in that division the following season. Losing Mike Flanagan to Palace did not help matters but bigger hatred was just around the corner,THE SELHURST YEARS ENOUGH SAID........07-09-85.......THE WHITE PAPER........Suddenly Palace fans are coming out the woodwork in 1990 and you can bet your bottom dollar that had Wimbledon not put us down too Division Two aweek before we played Palace and lost 2-0 you would not have heard the last of it from them. There is a banner in the Covered End that states fortune 84th minute let them remember that fact. As for the past few years that is still fresh in your minds or should be. LET THEM KNOW WE ARE CHARLTON AND THIS IS OUR VALLEY on the 14th Sept.

So you're saying you'd be happy with 12points and relegation as long as we beat Palace and Millwall home and away? Bizarre.
I hate Palace but only in a football sense, i dont wish any of there fans personal misfortune, apart from the famous train incident fans.
Only reason i dont like Millwall is not for any rivalry but just that i find that whole we show are passion via throwing stuff and trying to start fights that a higher percentage of there fans enjoy and the others defend it as "Passion".
Sorry only one true derby game for me and it's Millwall. Always was and always will be, over the years we have won the odd battle, but mostly lost the war. Palace, I don,t really care about, an yes I am more than old enough to remember the exile years. The fact Millwall largely disregard us as rivals, makes it worse. Hate them, not really used to go there quite a bit, and smile big time when ever they lost. Lots of Millwall mates then and now.

Palace is mild hatred millwall is blood curdling pure and utter hatred ... Palace have the same sort of numbers of helm supporters as we do, add them together x 10 and you might come close to the helm count at the real SCUM

The one good thing about living in Southampton is I don't ever run into any.
When I was a lot younger I made a point of running into them.

As you may know CE the bloke that they tried to bottle was your ex work colleague.
