  • A few weeks ago, one of our players said we weren't the most physical of teams and perhaps lacked a bit of bite.

Hughesy back in the side seems to have gone some way to addressing that.

  • Think Chrissy brought Gower in to have a look - hasn't risked him really so whether we sign him or not is still very much in the balance.
  • Leeds will sing his name and then we can copy
  • I can barely think of a good promoted team in this div who have not had a physical player in cm, who can make a destructive tackle. Maybe Watford but they're far from being promoted let alone reliable, if box office. Haven't had that since Bailey, and Bailey was positionally erratic often in a good way.
  • Love him.Mr Motivator

Glad to see him back in the team. Missed the game last saturday, didn't go tuesday but by all accounts was just what we have been missing in the middle.

It was quite impressive, he was the only player the Leeds fans chanted about all game!
  • And at least he showed some respect unlike our Community Club of the Year. Shame that does not extend to the wider football community. Shame on us.

    Respect for what?

  • Think Hughes has been fantastic in the last three games.

April 6th 2000. Two Leeds fans stabbed to death in Turkey. Gone to watch football. Hence reason why their team and Hughes had black armbands on today.

I have to admit to not knowing about that. I would have thought black armbands for all players (not just Leeds) would have been acceptable. I've never met a Leeds fan I particularly liked, but neither have I ever met one I'd wish that on.

Hughes was awesome today , there was one bit where he stuck his head in a challenge that could have had ended up with a serious klonk in the head , top fella , nice touch to see his daughter running out as a mascot today , plenty of love too from the Leeds fans today for him.
  • Fans are rarely wrong about players. Seems most fans have a lot of respect for Andy.

I remember the thread following his first appearance for us - "worse than Simon Francis" was a typical comment...

  • We never lose with Andy Hughes !

    Yeah, that was very brave.

I think one of the things that he does so well is go to the man with the ball and stand his ground - not always making a challenge, but forcing the man back. As soon as the ball is played, he's off to push the next man back and so on. Very effective.
  • Spoke to my son about him , we've decided he's the glue that keeps our midfield together , its no coincidence we've started picking up points again now he's back in the team , his hands must have blisters on them , the amount of clapping he did today.
  • No pace but his positioning was spot on to break up their attacks. Gave the rest the freedom to go forward knowing he was there. It is surely no coincidence that the balance of the team has looked better since he came back. And his encouragement to the rest was audible. He even woke up two pensioners in the east stand;-)

  • He's one of those players that doesn't seem to do much... but "coincidentally" the team plays much better when he's playing.

Lol, fans are nearly always wrong about players - that's why we're fans and not managers like we'd all love to be.

He seems a good fella though and we seem to usually win when he plays so keep him in the team. Will be interesting how this Rouamba bloke compares. He'll be younger but I can't see him being so vocal. Jacko leads by example, but Hughes shows the value of having someone out there who can watch what others are doing a bark few words of instruction/encouragement.

  • Hughes is a continuity player, he knits it all together in midfield, wins possession and brings everyone into the game. When the opposition has the ball, he protects the back four, breaks up the opposition build-up through midfield and keeps the team organised. Hughes has done a fantastic job since his return and filled a big hole in the central midfield,
  • He can claim an assist today as well
  • We never lose with Andy Hughes !

If it's not a song it should be (to 'when the saints' tune)

What I meant was that fans know when they have a bit a legend in their midst and not just the norm. Classic example was Steve Brown. Not the most gifted but he bled for the team. We saw through his deficiencies and he was universally liked by every Charlton fan. Think Hughes had this status at Leeds. We are seeing the tail end of his career but can spot a good un.
  • To his credit at the age of 35,and after being out for so long, has played three games in a week.Has played very well and its no coincidence that with him in the team we have gained seven vital points....
  • We never lose with Andy Hughes !
