And how do you know there was no threat to your safety? That was a sold out match where a lot of the pubs were still busy with Millwall fans who didn't go to the game.
Is the above a FACT? Or are you making this up?
Are you aware of how many pubs there are nowadays in the environs of the ground? You can walk to Surrey Docks station passing just one (& you could go another route & avoid it) and walk to New Cross station passing none.
as has been mentioned, it was not so much the waiting outside. i was more pissed off with the performance that those not missed 'players' put in. It was disgraceful.
and tom, i didn’t walk past one pub on my way back to the station. You could see a pub when the train pulled off with a bunch of spanners, arms up, doing their mating call to the train. i cant believe millwall have that many fans to fill out all the pubs in the area as well as the ground.
tom....can I ask. Were you one of those locked in at The Toolbox a couple of years back?
Yes, I was there. And in fairness I was pretty embarrassed by the performance of the players, as well as the majority of our fans who wanted to leave with half an hour left.
I was more upset about losing 4-0 to our rivals rather than a pocksy gate.

I'm basing it on my journey on the way out of the ground. I was on the coach that was mentioned earlier where some of the supporters were trying to break in. We went past a few pubs full of supporters. After the game admittedly, but I stand by my point that there was good reason for not allowing the Charlton fans out.
We all know our own kind very well, but who's to say that there wasn't a load of Charlton who wanted to get out early and get in place to have it out with Millwall supporters. We know this probably wasn't the case, but would it be fair for the police to just make us an exception because we're goody two-shoes little Charlton? Probably not. Any incidents that do take place come down on them, so you've got to consider that.
Did all of those people have somewhere much more important to be after the game? No, unlikely.
why does that even matter? ive paid to attend an event out of my own money. If i wish to leave the event then i should be allowed to do so. There was no threat to my safety as there was still 20 mins left, all the millwall fans were still inside the ground.
And how do you know there was no threat to your safety? That was a sold out match where a lot of the pubs were still busy with Millwall fans who didn't go to the game.
The police don't just lock supporters into a ground for no reason whatsoever. There would be no point in them deliberately bringing the hassle upon themselves like they did just to wind you or anyone else up.
At the end of the day, they've probably officiated and seen many more incidents at Millwall than any of us have.
you must be confusing millwall with croatia zagreb. a load of gobby 16 year olds from bexleyheath with jumpers draped over their shoulders aint a threat to my safety.
A lot of them are gobby 16 year olds - Doesn't necessarily mean you aren't vulnerable. All it takes is a bit of silly handbags with a few mouthy idiots before others get involved and it escalates etc.
It's all well and good people saying that they don't need police protection, but at the end of the day there was no violence and no major incident. Better safe than sorry in my eyes.
Not arguing with the chance there could've been trouble if allowed out together, more the case of all these so called pubs rammed with double naughty geezers who want to thump replica shirt wearing stragglers. Very very unlikely anything would've happened considering there is no need to pass any pubs unless of course you're looking for trouble.

You don't think we wern't all pissed off at losing 4 nil....of course we were!!
tom I'm having a lot of trouble with you NOT seeming to understand that many of us were pissed off at being locked in for an hour....what part of that don't you get mate....I and many others didn't like it one little bit and want reassurances as to what is going to happen in December. I fail to see why this is so offensive to you...what's your problem? It seems not to have bothered you that much....that's fair enough, but many of us were well pissed off and rightly so.
I do understand why people would be pissed off by it. I don't understand why it is such a big talking point for one of the most anticipated matches we've had in the last three years. Why are we not getting excited about the prospect of playing Millwall - A club who to many of us are seen as our biggest rival?
If the Charlton fans had been let out early, there would have been some trouble with the Millwall supporters also coming out of the game at the same time. Say what you will, but there just would have been.
We played them in a friendly a few years back and beat them 4-1. It ended up with a group of their fans turning up at Charlton and smashing up the shops. That was after a FRIENDLY.
Again, I understand why it annoys people to be locked in. But you would be a hell of a lot more annoyed if somebody abused or attacked you. And don't give me all this 'I don't need police protection' talk - Surely you would much rather be safe than sorry. That is what I don't understand.
That day was all about being just being angry because we got absolutely thumped. Had we won, I don't think people would be complaining. SImple.
Tom, surely no Millwall fans would be leaving at 4.15 when their team were 3 nil up?
Smashing up the shops? Leave off. A 16 year threw something at the hairdressers on charlton lane and broke the window. Hardly scary, they walked past the Oak when a group were sitting there without doing anything apart from a few swear words.

No, but from a police point of view - Who's to say some Charlton fans weren't looking to get out early and want to start trouble as soon as the final whistle went?
and I dont think the police / clubs would ever 'promise/reassure' fans that they wont be locked in after a game, 6 months before the game or the day before or on the day. decisions will be taken as and when appropriate and the fans will find out, at the final whistle.

Thought about that of course suzie....but at least asking them would be a starting point and also asking for better communication other than leaving your seat only to find you're effectively trapped/locked in. Looks like I'm not going to end up in that stand then......I and maybe some others will have to find a different place to sit.
As usual SLL speaks as much sense as anyone on here.
Lock-ins are just part and parcel of most 'risk' games. It's not right and its not fair but since when have football fans been treated fairly.
I am treated like a criminal at the airport, every time I go abroad to watch England play. 45min lock in at Millwall, try a 2hr one in the Stadio Olmpico, after having all your coins and belts taken off you on the way in.
And its not just Millwall - in fact compared to a lot of clubs they rarely play up these days.
I think if the video posted above had been millwall, people would be wetting thier pants and calling them scum etc.
At the end of the day we may get locked in. If you're happy go, if your not don't, cos no amount of moaning about it will get you anywhere, cos you are just a fan and thus the authorities could not give a flying one about you.
I just hope we bloody beat them, as I don't want to be that pissed off after again, with such a spineless performance. And my personal circumstances mean I hate losing to them as much as anyone.
I was livid at being kept in for 45 minutes after the game. I had put some lamb in the slow cooker and I expected to be home by six. I didn't get in until just after seven and the lamb was a tad drier than it should have been. I was so angry with those naughty policemen I could have said a swear word !!

Good for you Brendan...and it was an hour not 45 minutes, which suggests to me that maybe you wern't there.

Hahaha! I couldn't tell you how long it was, but then again it was TWO YEARS AGO.
Before i went to that 4-0 spanking, I was told how intimidating that stadium was.
Although the performance was comical I couldn't stop laughing at what I was seeing in the stands next to us. The way the little ball bags jogged towards the corner with their pink polo's on hugging each other and offering our upper tier out.
I can't wait to see that again this year after we rob them of 3 points in the last minute

Damn it !! I've been rumbled !! I was there mate, I am just a pi55 taking c*** !! ;0)

To be fair, games against yourselves & Palace are the most dire for intimidating atmospheres. It cranks up a notch when the visiting team has an element of hostility about them, from OUR point of view, our games don't match the hostility of other opponents BUT that's not to say we don't want to beat you as much, it's just different types of atmospheres. (& the east upper lot are rather amusing for most away fans)

As others said, it's worth going to laugh at that Bexley lot in the East Upper.
