No Wilshire and Cleverley, so you've lot the main creative spark in the middle of the park, but we don't have the players, also Downing has a assist record for England, only Ashley Young has created more.
G Johnson ahead of Richards? Downing ahead of A Johnson? Only 4 strikers with Rooney already out for 2 games, leaving a strikeforce of Welbeck, Carroll or Defoe to choose from, none of whom are guaranteed first-choice picks for their clubs? We'll be out of the Euros before the Greek economy.
BTW, think Joe Cole should have been picked, been exceptional for Lille, and if he had done that in the Premier League, he would be straight in the squad.
I'll probably get shot down for this but just to slightly defend Downing, without a question he would work harder than Johnson and that is probably the reason he has been picked ahead of him. Roy needs a squad of players willing to put a shift in to have any chance of doing anything this summer, Johnson simply would not do that.
Have a real coup here. I have heard on very good advice that a few days ago Terry wasn't going, Ferdinand was. I have been told that something changed that after a chat between Hodgson and Ferdinand. In fact, some FA literature has no picture of Terry anywhere? Have no more info, but this contact is at the coal face........
We can play 433 with Roy's squad, the 2 wide attackers (e.g. Young and Walcott) may be classified as midfielders, but they're very much attcking players.
Very surprised by Carrick's omission, when Milner has hardly played.
Barry is a regular for City in a team full of internationals, so clearly is capable of doing a certain role.
totally underwhelmed. As for picking terry ahead of ferdinand, just a sick joke. Wouldnt Jagielka have been a better bet than Terry who has made so many cock ups recently he has been laughable

In fairness Wilshere is injured and Cleverley has hardly kicked a ball all season

I don't think the squad is too bad and not unbalanced.
Personally, I might have taken Mica Richards instead of Johnson but to be fair Richards has had one half decent half season, and hasn't really played much for England. I notice he wasn't in the Citeh team on Sunday.
You could make a case out for Lennon or Adam Johnson over Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain, personally I don't think Lennon is quite good enough at the top level and Johnson has been in and out. Walcott is a bit on an enigma but he has done it for England as well. Oxlade-Chamberlain is just a punt that might come off, plus it gives him valuable experience for the future.
Personally, I wouldn't have taken Gerrard and Lumphard and I would have chosen to leave out the ever England under-performing Gerrard, but I understand why he would take him. I might have taken Carrick and not brought Downing but I don't think its a huge issue bringing Downing. Ashley Young provided he has left his diving boots at home could easily start in a 4-5-1 with Carroll as the lone striker.
As for strikers, Bent is not fully fit, and then its a case of three plus Rooney. I think that Carroll is a bit of a gamble but worth the risk. He is fit and raring to go. Welbeck is a decent pick and Judas is a perfectly decent pick for an out and out goal scorer. My guess is that he is frustrated at his lack of starts for Spurs and he's got something to prove which could be to England's advantage.
I've been very impressed with Richards anytime I've seen him this season, man is an absolute beast and gets up an down really well. Would have him over Johnson anyday
Henderson on standby had got to be a joke. He has been awful all season, who's roy confused him with?
I was thinking of alternative standby central midfielders. Clearly he wants someone young, rather than an experienced international like Carrick or J Cole. Wilshere is injured, Cleverley presumably unfit. So who else do we have? A few more games and Shelvey might have been in the frame?

At least Heskey isn't in the squad!
As for Downing, he's done alright for England, and Liverpool as a whole have been shit, doesn't suddenly make him shit.
