...it appears it is because the average supporter is indeed less inclined or less able to show that sort of passion and the club knows that....our constant threads and comments about flasks, blankets and a refusal to shout, sing, stand move or breath confirms that....
I think the best pitch invasion was against Sunderland years ago. (Can't remember when but there supporters were on the east terrace cause the Jimmy Seed was being built on)
I don't think it is about penalties or punishment, it is about not being so selfish as to spoil what the club is planning. The pitch invasion at Carlisle was spur of the moment and justifiable IMO but with the club planning presentations etc... on May 5th, you have to be immesively selfish to potentially be willing to spoil that.
how about on Saturday we all sing "If Solly scores, we're on the pitch"? That way if he does score, those that wish to do it can, and those who dislike them can accept that it'll be a spontaneous reaction to a rare moment!
Saddest thread of the year so far, we have strolled the league, got ourselves out of league 1 and the future is looking rosey.
Some people are never happy unless they are moaning and it seems pitch invasions are pick of the day.
I'm not moaning, I just want the players to have the pitch for their moment on Saturday, not a contrived pitch invasion because some think it's their right.

No worries Rothko, I am with you, the pitch invasion moment has gone, it happened at Carlisle, people keep banging on about Reading & Southampton but they were at home when they clinched promotion, not away at the furthest club in the football league.
Let the players have thier moment of glory on Sat by picking up the trophy and doing a lap of honour without having to worry about numpties running on the pitch
Muttley, are you not reading straight or just struggling to understand ?
This is not about Hartlepool - a full house (I'm taking 12 of my family along as it goes), balloons, parades, flags, hip hip and flippin' hooray let's all go for a cup of tea, parachutes, fit singers, fat singers and God save Powell.
This all refers to the Wycombe game when we won the league and my question (and it was initially a question) surrounds our lack of spontonaity and (as someone else subsequently described it) passion.
I'll close the thread when I get home (if I can) as it is clearly lost on some.
As someone very important said to me about a certain pub - "this place is full of Puritans, Piss Heads, Ponces and Prats - and many who are all 4"
To me it is about Hartlepool as the Wycombe game has come and gone. Some people clearly want to invade the pitch and that is going to be the game they do it in as it's the next one. And at Wycombe the club asked fans not to invade the pitch and out of respect we complied - the right time for the invasion was Carlisle and I can't for the life of me understand why anybody can have an issue with it. Our fans have been brilliant, but I want to applaud the players and coaching staff and the best way to do that is from the stands. Had there been a pitch invasion at Wycombe, would we have had the lap of honour?

I'm equally baffled mate. You're going to need to write it in capitals or in a bigger font for it to get across at this rate!
I din't say it was a heinous crime -just a bit selfish. Anyway, I'm confident we will all behave on Saturday and enjoy the day -which is about Charlton, not about us.
We didn't need a genteel lap of honour after Wycombe. - the home stands were half empty to start with.
We always had Hartlepool to come for - having had a "lap of honour" is it is greedy to have anpther next week.
Anyway if the crime is so heinous, what is a suitable punishment for those that do it ?
The home stands looked pretty full to me, as very few left before the lap of honour took place. I thoroughly enjoyed the lap of honour and the singing as we had just become Champions. The Hartlepool match is about being presented with the trophy and I want to be able to enjoy it all over again.
I was at Carlisle and stayed in the stands whilst a bloke in our group (you know who you are) couldn't contain his excitement. I don't begrudge those that went on the pitch it was there thing. At Carlisle those that were going to go on the pitch were already stood on the touchline hoardings for the last 20 minutes so it was obvious to all in the ground what was going to happen. If somebody had got a kicking and it all kicked off, or our fans ran over and gave it large to the home fans then that would've been different, but it was in good humour with no casualties.
Each to their own, but as fantastic as it has been to witness this season, the championship is the league to win (or get out of) and if we do that then as Reading and Southampton showed, there will be no stopping our fans either!

I now understand. It is all about the magnitude of the achievement.
Surely the time for the pitch invasion was as soon as the final whistle went. As when the whistle went we had no clue and had to wait five (?) minutes to find out we had won the league the moment was lost.
If it was fully in our hands that day, and we knew that a win would clinch the title then MAYBE there would have been an invasion, but due to waiting on other results it wasnt to be.
pitch invasions should happen when they feel right. you can't manufacture the joy which was felt at carlise and to be honest imo wycombe got no where near it. reading and southampton had a pitch invasion when they got promoted just as we did but they happened to be at home.
Even we managed this in 2001, we stayed off, from memory, & let the presentation take place...then on we went, dismantled the large wooden presentation thing & carried it out the ground, past laughing coppers, before leaving it leant up against a wall on the corner of the Ilderton as it was too heavy.
Comments
Is it too much to ask that we keep off the pitch and respect the request of those that have given us so much this year?
But against wycombe when crowned kings a pitch invasion would've been 100% acceptable in my opinion same as at carlisle
Hence why we have no real history of pitch invasions other than away from home
Too many people doing what they are told
I don't care if the club asked not to , they also ask you to sit down and not swear do you always obey that

Its the Charlton way!!
