i sit in the east stand and we do sing. theres just so much of the quite lot in there that it seperates all the atmosphere. maybe we just need to build a team in an area of the east. then it would build. something does need to change though.
I haven't been to that many aways, maybe 11, but Wycombe away 09/10 was the only one where we wasn't singing non-stop for 90 mins. I've yet to see a team come to the Valley and do anything close, except for possibly Watford when we came down to league one. Do Watford have a famous support? No, which shows it's all about time, circumstance and opinion. The Valley has been literally deafening many times that i've gone, good other times, average other times and bad other times. I got my first season ticket this year and Huddersfield was great, Stevenage was great, Sheffield United was ok, but rochdale on a tuesday night wasn't...but that's to be expected so don't worry if it's occasionally bad, every single club will have bad days, even Leeds and Stoke etc, we don't have the same culture as Leeds and probably never will; but we don't have the same culture as Fulham and probably never will.
We don't sing at home. Those that go to home games are only there for the free offers. We don't take any fans away. Those we do take away are drunken racists who stand up all the time and abuse everyone in sight. Our website is shite. Our away coaches are crap. We're going to blow our lead at the top to Real Sheffield and Barca Wednesday.
Life's pretty crap this season isn't it? Not sure why any of us bother going really.

Dont forget the annoying song at the end of the game as well....
Old Covered End was loud therefore it's the acoustics.

Post of the week.
Still need to do something about the atmosphere though, the place used to be rocking before the covered end was expanded.
Maybe we could have piped chanting over the tannoy - to go with that popular song at the end of the match.
Or how about just 90 minutes of feedback out of the speakers in the away end for the whole match. That way they'd never know i we were quiet or not - would save some of our more sensitive fans a lot of embarrassment.
football for a fiver every week till we get to the premier league again.with the money we save we can all buy vuvuzeles and give the whole of south london a headache every other saturday and the odd tuesday night.
It's not as bad as some people are making out. We make a pretty good noise when the circumstances are right. Not sure I buy this 'acoustics' argument though. I first heard it about 15 years ago, even though the Covered End was a totally different shape.
Just to appease people that think the atmosphere ( was going to start singing that Russ Abbott song) why don't we play recorded crowd singing really loud , then everybody's happy , nothing left to moan about!
Think another drummer in the West stand near Jimmy Seed would be good with another gathering of fans down there. Then a brass band in the East stand playing the great escape when players enter the pitch. Then 6 violinists and 3 cello's in the family stand. Maybe a school boy choir in the north west singing i'm walking in the air throughout the match with Dean Windass on a platform orchestrating all parts of the ground.
