If the North generated an atmosphere like they are supposed to do the rest of the ground would follow.
Until that little pocket of people in the top left hand corner starts to "spread" across the rest of the upper tier in won't happen.
It can be funny watching sometimes where it stops, you can have a guy standing up, arms outstretched singing his heart out and the guy in the next seat sitting silently.
All this singing section stuff is embarrassing. Try going to the Britania and asking a Stoke fan where the singing section is, he'll probably point to all 4 stands. Truth is we've not got a quiet ground, we've got quiet fans, other than the north stand. Most grounds do, but compensate for this by having home fans a few seats from away fans. Theres more of an edge when you're right by the opposition fans. We can make it more of an intimidating place for away fans and players to come to if we wanted to, but most of us just sit in silence. Pardew was right, and he probably realised the difference in home fans at Upton park and at The Valley. Theres nothing outrageous about having mouthy home fans by away fans, it happens everywhere with no problems.
Our fans will never be loud. We don't even have main rivals. Our biggest derby's (palace and millwall probably) are against 2 teams who don't even give a f**k about us. We'll never be known for a decent bunch of loud fans

what has all that crap got to do with singing at your average game?
Change the roof on the North to channel the noise down the ground instead of to passing aircraft. If singers moved to lower it would be even worse. JS stand roof channels it beautifully - could someone nick it and hang it from the north upper roof?

palace fans are more interested in brighton than us and millwall's main rivals are west ham. we're not the loudest at home but what do you expect when only a couple of blocks of people stand up and make the atmosphere in a fair sized stadium. many clubs have the same problem. the atmosphere is always far better for away than home fans, or at least thats the way i've found it. i look forward to away games but going home games sometimes has "the going through the motions" feel to it.

Sorry fella but the main difference between the upper north and the JS stand has nothing to do with "roof channels" its because when there are a few fans in the JS more than a couple of blocks sing............unlike the upper north
Pardew actually enquired as to whether the Away fans could be moved out of the JS and have home fans at either end of the ground.....I thought this was a great idea. Do something similar to Wolves and put them in the lower part of the West or end tiers of the East?
I don't think we're any quieter than the majority of comparable clubs around us. I don't recall going to many away games and being deafened by ther home supporters. And the Orient away fans were hardly that noisy either - sitting on the half way line, I can judge the volume.
Besides, everyone is tense at the moment. If the 2nd goal had gone in early, then the second half would have been more celebratory. Instead, everyone got tense, and was waiting for that ****ing referee to give Orient a late penalty to equalise...
Oh goody! Another thread digging ourselves out. I wait with interest to the solution to a problem that doesn't really exist.
We got 17,000 in the third tier, why not just be happy with that and not expect them to be 17,000 Addick Ultras, waving the bloody heads of opposition supporters in between letting off shipping flares and invading the pitch at every offside that goes against us?
Give it a rest Bournemouth people are having a discussion on a message board that's what its about. 17,000 or not its very quiet in comparsion to most clubs pulling those crowds
Think the support was ok yesterday just think the supporters are getting nervous and tense as we're so close , when we make it the Hartlepool game will be electric
this....already planning a big day on the booze that day....don't let me down Charlton!

I dont think we are that quite compared to most teams across the leagues, charlton is and always will be a family club. I think if we started putting noisy home fans near the away fans it is just asking for trouble. I have been to Stoke away a couple of times and I thought the atmosphere was awful like most teams it depends how well you are playing and who you are playing which dictates the atmosphere. No ground is bouncy for 90 mins, I havent been to a away game and been drawn back by the atmosphere part from the nou camp!
Eltham addick has hit the nail on the head. Improve the barman at the Valley (by that i mean sack them all and get some people who actually know what they are doing), so everybody gets more pissed.
We're just too nice. The valley is a seething cauldron of politeness, i'm sure the covered end even wait for the opposition to stop singing before they start.

Were top of the league (as the song that keeps getting progressively quieter goes)

I've seen plenty of fights and arguments between our own fans this season.

Playing the likes of Yeovil or Oldham hardly brings out the most passion in are fans

That's just a load of rubbish.

Maybe the club could consider something.
