It was clear that Clarke was destined not to make a contribution, but this is worrying. The player recruitment last summer was inspired and augered well for the future, but January's performance was poor; the Clarke signing was "odd", Russell hasn't played and Haynes is not good enough for the Championship. What was the thinking?
If Jimenez has real ambition for the Club - and I believe he does - then this coming summer could again be a very busy one. We'll need to hope that Powell's Midas touch returns though because right now he appears to have lost it.
It is more to do with the budget available that CP has to work with. It is clear that the owners are not going to throw money at a problem. CP is expected to try to work with the resources he has got. Maybe freeing up wages from the loans will allow enough for a decent enough loan striker, with hopefully a view to sign. With the money spent from the beginning of the season, some great players have been brought in for not much at all. I am optimistic that CP and the Charlton team will do well with the end of season transfers and that sufficient resources will be available to improve the quality of the squad for the Champs. Another goal scorer will be needed. Leon Clare did not fit the profile. So good he's moved on.
We still got the better of the swap deal as Clarke still has a resell value. We just need to find a taker...
In all honesty, he's clearly a good player as he scored for a poor chesterfield side. Just needs game time and to be the main man. He won't get that with us.
resell value, clearly a good player ?? you are kidding me ... clearly based on his 9 in 14 red hot patch at chesterfield (how many pens) but in the rest of hs career he has had 216 appearances and 43 goals in 11 different teams no one will buy him unless we get mr u tube to work some magic
Maybe decent rather than good then. Remember, he was a premiership player until recently at qpr. Although on second thoughts, Dickson scored a few goals for gillingham too. He's not actually as young as I thought either (I guessed 25).
From the Creepy Crawley OS: "The football and legal documentation signed by all parties means that Leon will stay with Reds until the end of the season as there is no recall clause inserted in the deal."
I get this. I just don't think his ability cut it with Chris and maybe his attitude wasn't good as well (he does have history). Why keep a player around who is deadwood. I think Chris probably feels he has enough with bwp and Yann with backup from our scoring midfield. We also have the versatile Waggy and we can bring Hayes back if need be. That should be enough to get us over the finish line. I don't think Chris sees Euell as an option anymore.
Agree - I'm not surprised by this at all. It was a gamble, it hasn't worked, let's move on. Glad we could get rid sooner rather than later. Wouldn't be surprised also to see Hayes come back (and wouldn't be disappointed either as I think he is a good player). Still expect someone else to appear on loan shortly, though.
He wasn't really given a chance but I'm not disappointed to see him go. I'd like Hayes to come back as I think he has the quality to pick a pass through a defence which sits deep.
Maybe we will go 1 upfront. It is what Curbs used to do after we had a few tough results.
When did the rules change then about the amount of clubs in 1 season
They haven't. I think the Football League has given Clarke special permission in this case, no idea why.
nope, the rules are you cant play for anymore than 2 teams in the same division in the same season. clarke will have played for two in league one and two in league two meaning he isnt breaking that rule.
Am I the only one here who thinks that he didn't get a fair crack of the whip?
Thought he showed like he could get into good positions and with a bit of game time might have scored a few goals for us, don't forget he has played most of his career at higher levels than this.
Can't understand why he became so unpopular so quick, but thats some of our fans for you.
Nevertheless the deal is done now and I would personally love to see us get Benik Afobe in on loan from Arsenal, would be a great signing!
I am sure Pigott/Azeez/Sho-Silva could do a job from the bench for one game.
According to a CAFC tweet, Ade Azeez has travelled to Scunthorpe with the squad. Joe and Tobi were both playing in the U-18s at New Eltham this morning.

Paul Hayes can add something as well.
You heard it here first
"The football and legal documentation signed by all parties means that Leon will stay with Reds until the end of the season as there is no recall clause inserted in the deal."
He plans on pushing Wiggins to LM, Jacko upfront and play himself @ LB for the rest of the season!!!
Maybe we will go 1 upfront. It is what Curbs used to do after we had a few tough results.
Clarke showed little when he did get a chance although I accept his chances were limited.
More important perhaps are the circumstances under which he left Swindon. SCP runs a tight squad and looks at the man as well as the player.
Is any of our younger players or reserve players such as Azeez ready or good enough to step up instead ?
Would Azeez and Hayes be able to do the job until the end of the season ?
(Sorry about talking to myself on here).
However too soon imo but in scp I trust
