Have no issue with off loading him. Lets face it CP is not going to go into the last 10 games with 2 senior strikers. Someone is coming in. Even if Hayes comes back he'll still sign someone.
Didn't expect that but from the little I've seen of Clarke I've not been impressed at all.
Obviously has something about him after his goals at Chesterfield, but like Benson and Euell he looked nowhere near Champ standard.
Be interesting to see who comes in. Euell's not good enough and Hayes isn't great off the bench (but good back up for Yann). Really doubt Powell's going to rely on the youngsters as back up, even though 3 u18 strikers will be turning pro.
Easy to dismiss him after hindsight but we saw what he was like when he played against us ffs! Wrong club and wrong level. The first game he came on as a sub and got put through on goal and actually looked like he was going backwards.

Yeah, he had what looked like a good 20 yards on their defender yet still got beaten to the ball. I remember thinking to myself "I'm 45, carrying a few pounds and a smoker and I would have got there first"............
the way i see it, no one wanted to offer cash for benson, which we wanted. Swindon came in and said "hey, you can get one of the leading scorers in your league and we'll take benson off your hands." We probably decided that it was a decent punt but it hasn't come off. Fair enough and good luck to clarke.
Barnard would be a quality replacement. And if Saints go up he's unlikely to play much there next season. Get him in now to settle, ready for a 30 goal season next year in the Championship.
Benson was never going to play again, total red herring - he's doing ok in a good team at the only pro level he's knocked goals in, no surprise there. Doesn't make him a league one player.
I think Clarke's a half decent player who's lost his way. I can remember Warnock on SkySports expressing surprise at the Di Canio incident, saying that it was way out of character. I wish him well at Crawley, not that I have any time for that club, but I suspect this is a season he'll want to put behind him.
Let's face it - if Powell's not going to use him when we're desperate for a goal he's never going to play more than a bit part. A reasonable gamble, just didn't work out.
We still got the better of the swap deal as Clarke still has a resell value. We just need to find a taker...
In all honesty, he's clearly a good player as he scored for a poor chesterfield side. Just needs game time and to be the main man. He won't get that with us.
resell value, clearly a good player ?? you are kidding me ... clearly based on his 9 in 14 red hot patch at chesterfield (how many pens) but in the rest of hs career he has had 216 appearances and 43 goals in 11 different teams no one will buy him unless we get mr u tube to work some magic
A fit in-form Lee Barnard would be a good signing - but he's hardly played this year and has been injured for much of it. If he was coming, is he not just likely to join for a month to get fit and rejoin the Saints' run in?
Still, a permanent signing preceded by a loan for the rest of this would be interesting.
Not dissapointed to see Clarke gone. ( he looks like he's running in treacle when he plays ) but I find it odd that we go into todays game with just two .its a very strange decision . Perhaps SCP is thinking that Waggy is our other striker.
Odd. I wasn't keen on him signing, but with Kermit's form he was never given a chance to prove that. I guess we'll never know the story as the current management team rightly keeps its cards close to its chest.
If Leon Clarke is deemed not good enough for the Championship or to come on and turn a game at 70 mins on the bench (as against Notts County), then it is better for the player and the team for him to move on. Same with the x3 other strikers, who went out on loan. It is proper management of finances, to reduce the wage bill of players who are not going to play.
After selling Tubbs, Crawley are a striker short and Leon Clarke may be just the man to fire them up. Good luck to Crawley and to Leon Clarke. Leon Clarke may be playing in League One for Crawley next year if it works out or league 2 if he does well enough. If the contract is 18 months, we may get a fee.
I am glad that the club have moved quickly. Sign of a better run club that is proactive when it comes to players and resources.
Could this be an indication that Powell is going to play one up front this afternoon? Interesting..........
Perhaps but it must mean either Hayes coming back or a new body in. I doubt Hayes is returning so I wonder who. I doubt the board would leave us with just BWP and Kerm for the most important part of the season. That would be mad. If SCP didn't fancy Hayes before I doubt he has changed his mind now.
Surely if a loanee was joining it would have been announced this morning? If Powell had lined up a loanee, but he wasnt going to join until next week, then it surely would have made sense to keep Clarke for today and let him go once the loanee comes in. So many questions! Lets hope Powell knows what he is doing, I have faith he does.

Again, who scouted him? Mr U Tube?

I thought you couldn't play for 4 teams in a season so something doesn't add up
Why would discussions happen on the bus to scunthorpe
I don't believe a word of that statement
Has it been confirmed on the OS yet
I was one of the people that didn't think Clarke looked good enough, and TBH chris must have agreed.
Can only see another striker coming in, unless Hayes coming back - strange though as it leaves us a bit short uptop for today!

Personally I expect a loanee to join.
