Leon Clarke GONE.....

edited March 2012 in General Charlton
To Crawley on loan for rest of the season! This makes no sense with Haynes out for 3 weeks!

  • Hayes back or another player in on loan
  • Is the rule that you can only play for a maximum of three clubs in a season still in operation?

If so he has played for Swindon, Chesterfield, Charlton and now Crawley.
  • Now that is absolutely bizarre. Hopefully it will mean we recall Hayes as while he's not an impact player I do like him. In his few appearances Clarke came across as being neither an impact player nor much of anything else so I'm not too sorry about this one. Got him in exchange for Benno, it didn't pan out. Oh well.
  • madness! we go into tomorrow with two senior forwards fit at the club????
  • Surely another player on loan. This is strange..or maybe not as his temperament was always in question and he might not have been happy warming the bench
  • Got to be Hayes back plus a loan
  • Would definitely rather have Hayes anyway so not too fussed, as long as Hayes or someone else is coming in.
  • Clarke has added very little thus far and Powell saw no future. Sometimes its for the best. I did not like him from the first whereas I like Haynes.
  • "At 6ft 2in he carries a real physical presence and has lightning pace. I watched him several times during his loan spell at Chesterfield and every time he impressed me."
  • always seemed a bizarre signing

  • Hayes can't come back until after Tuesday .Who will be our attcking options from the bench tomorrow and against Yeovil ?
  • He is going to end up in non-league by next season because of his attitude and when he is 40 will regret it big time!
  • His 'lightning pace' made Jorge Costa look like Usain Bolt :-)
  • Reckon it could be an ability issue rather than attitude.

Surely this is good news. Leon Clarke is shite. The facts of the matter are that we only took Leon Clarke because Bradford screwed us over at the last minute in the Jan window and once we failed to offload Benson in that window no club was goin to pay a fee for him (bearing in mind he would have been out of contract at the end of this season). The best we could have got was an exchange gamble like we did. Powell didn't particularly want Clarke and the gamble hasn't paid off so let's get rid. He can't cut it in league 1 so will be no use to us next year in the championship.
  • Waggy can play up top so is another option there.

Start with one up top and a 5 man midfield?
  • Tobi Sho Silva on the bench maybe
  • Brilliant news, the bloke is rubbish. Hopefully it means Hayes can come back in now he has a few games and goals under his belt. Think Hayes has been a bit harshly treated this season.

Maybe means Euell will be coming back as well then.
  • A strange situation, I don't see why the deal had to go through so quickly, surely it could have waited until after tomorrow's game?

A few people on this board were talking about 4-5-1, we might not have much choice!
  • Clarke is under contract with us for next year as well so unless we can sell him in the summer he will be coming back.

What I was suggesting after Sat defeat. Waggy can play a free role, defending when needed and support Kermit (my choice) as he has the physical ability to do this - and has the eye for goal. Eould not like to see one up front at home, but when you need to 'not to lose' would be agreat set up. Did he not say at Bromley that Waggy's performance had meant that he had 'to think long and hard'? Maybe he has and this is it. I hope so, looking forward to seeing the team sheet!

    Bizarre.

So Clarke has played for two teams heading for promotion in us and Swindon, one that looks like being relegated (Chesterfield) and now Crawley who could be in the play-offs.

    Nothing boring about his season.

Agree with a lot off what Oh Eddie says

  • Bearing in mind the majority of fans don't want him on the pitch, then we can't complain that he's gone. I agree with OEY. We wanted rid of Benson & he needed to go to play. Bradford shafted us last minute. Swindon offered to take him & let us have Clarke. As we weren't going to play Benson anyway it was worth a try.
However, Clarke doesn't look good enough & he's getting some boos.
Let him go where he can play & we may be able to sell him to them at the end of the season.
  • On Saturday I noticed that Clarke got ready to come on at least once, possibly twice but never made it onto the pitch. I wonder if he and CP had words over Powell's decision not to use any subs after Waggy. It seems particularly off considering that we have no Haynes. Hayes or Benson if we need to make a substitution for Yann or BWP or to try and get a goal.

I agree he did nothing for us but there doesn't seem to be any logic in the timing of this loan.

Even though I can't disagree with this I can't help thinking that if Clarke is so rubbish that we wouldn't bring him on in any circumstances it is no loss and maybe he had to go before we could get a player in on loan.
  • Surely means another striker on loan plus the return of Paul Hayes(which id be very pleased with).
  • Not yet on the OS ?
  • Reckon it could be an ability issue rather than attitude.
    This
It was hard to see where he fitted in - we have two nippy strikers in BWP and Haynes to play the fox in the box role and Kermorgant to play supporting striker - a job Hayes could do as well. If we needed a big lump/target man then shove either Taylor or Morrison forwards.
  • Now he's gone & I doubt he'll be back. I would like to say that he is a strange looking bloke.
    Weird souless eyes. Expressionless face.
    Is it just me ?
