Sorry Chris I have to disagree.

  • Sadly (because I have enjoyed commenting over recent years) this will be final contribution to this board. For me the persistent negativity that seems to pervade so much of the input means it is no longer holds the pleasure it once did.

I most grateful to the organisers for their efforts in providing this valuable service. I wish them and it well.

    This.
  • Sorry you feel that way, Grapevine. But this is what a fans' forum is all about. It's really not negativity to offer a view on where the team is going wrong after some poor results. Often it's saying the bleeding obvious. We all want things to go well but have different views on how this might be achieved. That's always been the way with fans and it would be a tad boring if we had to put a positive spin on everything. Or are you saying that none of us should say anything about anything because we all know nothing?
  • Grapevine, I value your posts, as I would guess, does everyone else. If the more enlightened posters leave, we are a poorer forum as a result. I trust you will reconsider after sleeping on it :-)

  • NOOOOOOOO! Grapevine is one of the best things about this site in recent months, what a shame :o(
  • If you'd been a regular poster on the now defunct " Your Views", Grapevine , you'd have surely slit your wrists by now !

CL is a haven of positivity, happiness and love compared to Your Whinges ....

Whatever happened to the likes of David Skillend & co ????

On second thoughts, don't think I want to know !
  • A bit dramatic Grapevine. Charlton fans are naturally negative because we've been on a downward spiral for the last five or six years and, on that basis, these two defeats seem worse that they should because a lot of us can see waht's possibly coming. You're obviously a smart guy but if it gets you down that much, you'd probably want to watch the rest of the season on teletext and avoid this board and the Valley because it could get a lot worse!

Getting back to the subject matter, Hamer is rubbish and Powell's an idiot for praising him. :-)
  • I'll do my best offy
  • Hopefully Grapevine will change his mind, we all do. Some slagging Hamer will. I had doubts over Solly and have had to eat my words. Keepers are more under the spotlight than outfielders, I never liked Deano, he never came for anything thus made fewer mistakes. Sasa had rushes of blood but often prevented defenders having to deal with balls bobbling in 6 yd box. Hamer needs to have more than two bad games before I question his ability. Rather Pope on bench than Sullivan though.
  • This board would be mighty boring if everyone agreed.

I thought the idea was for people to have a platform to air their views?.

To chuck your toys out of the play pen and quit because a percentage of posts are negative is laughable to be honest.

exactly , we're in league one (and about to escape) we're hardly about to qualify for the champions league

  • Hamer gets more stick when he lets a goal in than when Bradley or any of our strikers misses a sitter, we need to 'calm down Dear' & let Ben Roberts work his magic with Hamer, he has got talent I just think he's pulled the wool over CP's eyes and his injury is worse than he's letting on.
  • I'll do my best offy
I'll leave it in your capable then. If Rodders walks we're doomed.

    What????

  • If you are going to drop Hamer after a couple of howlers then you might aswell replace the whole squad for missed placed passes, chances missed, poor crosses, air shots etc. In the immortal words of Chris Kamara - "Unbelievable Jeff."
  • Rather Pope on bench than Sullivan though.
    Why's that then HG?

I agree that a forum is for expressing an opinion whatever that may be. However, there are some people who just always seem to post negative stuff. Being more on the positive side I just don't get it and never will but some come up trumps over and over again. I'm sure lots of us have names in our heads who we think are negative but it would be pointless to name call as they probably know who they are anyway and know they're on a deliberate wind up just to get a reaction. No doubt if names were called they would have plenty to say anyway as they're never backwards in coming forwards whenever there's a chance for some negativity. It is a shame, though, that a thoughtful poster like Grapevine has decided to leave. I, also, have enjoyed his posts and hope he reconsiders.

I admit I haven't posted or read the forum since Saturday because I knew the predictable negative posts would be out there. However, the good on this site far out weighs the bad and I would never consider leaving because of the negative posts. Maybe give it a bit of a berth for 2 or 3 days but that would be about it. Therefore, on a positive note I would like to thank again the people who make this site possible. Many people contribute on here but there are only a select few who keep it running and I know none of those would be on my list of the deliberate wind up merchants.

    Cheers.

    Exactly.

The way a certain poster on this thread is sticking up for Hamer after slating Elliot throughout of last season is interesting. Perhaps there is something to the comments about certain posters being against players coming from the academy?
  • Fans who have never played in goal before and know nothing about keeping, slating an up and coming keeper........people should take it with a pinch of salt and perhaps even smile at it. Yes, it's a Forum and people have opinions. The opinion that count, however, are at the training ground and in the dug out.

Exactly! This forum is just a bit of fun where we can pretend to know more than we really do!

  • I read something about Ferguson wanting De Gea to put on a few stone. Don't think that would be such a bad idea for Hamer. As long as he don't end up like Elliott.

Interesting thought Man About Town although I did actually play in goal and as it happens my Dad was one of Sam Bartrams deputies when he was first at the Club.

However, if we follow your thinking what is the purpose of this Forum ? Are we here only to endorse the managements decisions ? Sounds a bit Mao Tse Tung to me.

Don't bash yourself up over this Granpa as has been said many times before this forum is about opinions. You will always get the doom and gloom merchants waiting to say I told you so and the rose tinted glasses brigade who cannot see any wrong. Most on here such as me and you are somewhere in between. Grapevine49 feels very strongly about the negativity towards Hamer at this crucial point of the season and is opting out from future discussion. That is his choice as it is mine and your's when we stop buying a newspaper if we don't like the editorial. I have only been posting on this site for 10 months but I have always found Grapevine49's posts well balanced and interesting. His loss will be a shame but to quote him in his first and only discussion thread in April 2007 about overseas investor involvement in Premier League Clubs he said:
Charlton has given me great pleasure and no little heartache for over 40 years but I have seen enough of corporate politics and skullduggery in my professional career not to have to suffer its invasion into my favorite pastime.

I fervently wish the guys the best today at Blackburn and against Tottenham & Liverpool. The recent efforts of the board, management, players and supporters deserve reward but I will be turning my attention to other pastimes in the future.
So it is not the first time he has threatened to take his ball away and hopefully just like Arny he will be back! If not (Charlton) life goes on.
