  • Thanks for the reports everyone that went.

Not sure on the Solly/Jenkinson bit, didn't Jenkinson start games ahead of him when Powell came in? Although I can't remember when Solly was fit after his injury.
As far as I can recall CP switched Jenkinson to left-back and brought in Solly at right-back when the latter returned to the first team. I don't recall Jenkinson being selected in favour of Solly, but then the latter was injured for most of the season barring a few games at the start and end so the question most likely never arose.
I think Solly recovered around the time Jenks' move reached the public domain.

He (Jenks) didn't play from that point and Chris Solly, Solly came in.

  • They knew about Vetere before they hired him so why bother?
So we'd have something to moan about on Charlton Life.

  • CP told a great story about his last game.

Pardew put him on and asked him to play midfield which he has never done as a pro. Couldn't keep up with the pace of the game and was thinking "is this how it all ends?"

Then it happened and he was carried on the shoulders of the other players, tears were shed etc.

At the end of the game CP was selected for drug testing "most likely because they couldn't believe I'd scored" which took 2 hours. When he'd finished everyone had gone home. Just his wife and kids left so he drove home and that was the end of his time at Charlton.

    Or so he thought
  • That's a great story Henry.
  • I was still in Bartram's when Powell left after that game; he looked in and the few who were left (including Martyn Simons) bowed to him which he was embarassed about, and he didn't stay after his wave to all and sundry. I left about ten minutes later and Powell was still loading up the car with the family etc, so he then had to drive past us up Floyd Road, at which pioint we bowed again in homage, and he tooted. Then, driving the black people carrier, he was off into the distance...
    Hero...

Just had a look, Powell started Francis and Jenkinson with Solly on the bench for a few games. Was probably just because it wasn't long after Solly came back from his injury.
  • Powell didn't react when the news of the Col U v Sheff Utd score was read out. Poker face or just not bovvered? Views differed.
    Not bothered.

What was his take on the Waggy/Green conundrum?

And how long did he stay after I left?
The real business started as soon as you walked out the door.............. now you'll never know, you lightweight. ;-)

Very true. Drawnablank and MIA are keeping very quiet as they were last out and so got all the real gossip.

Thankyou to Henry & all for an excellent evening! a really nice venue , padded seats , very well lit environment much nicer than the other gaff.

Only drawbacks were that one of the bar staff was a Palace fan , drinks were a lot dearer and i didn't get to play snooker with Chris Powell :-0

A very concise report of the evenings events Henry.

  • Were drinks dearer? Pint of pride for under £3
  • Were drinks dearer? Pint of pride for under £3
Maybe i'm not used to buying a round! :-0

Was worth paying extra for the nicer environment imo.

Nathan dodged the entrance fee and didn't even buy a raffle ticket. Cheapskate of the first degree.

You weren't on my table Henry!

I wasn't 'esteemed ' enough oh grand master, to be on your table! ;-0
  • Guinness £3.20, Fosters £2.90 a pint. I don't believe it was more expensive than Tylney Road. Actually I thought it was cheaper, but I am only guessing.
  • A fantastic evening , whatever the price of the beer was , could get used to sitting in their every evening, except for the fact it's miles away!
  • He didn't pay? Sigh.

I asked the guy doing it and he said he'd get back to me as he was busy at the time...but he never did. If I see you I'll give you a fiver if I have it
