  • Was gob smacked when I read this. Thought he was doing a very good job and that they were in a very good position to get 2nd spot. This move reduces their chances for this season in my opinion, unless the whole squad hated him and his staff and take relief and are better motivated as a result of them leaving.

  • A few parallels with Parky, sacked when in a seemingly good position, on a poor run and seemingly obsessed with grinding out draws to build long unbeaten runs.
  • From Cawley: Neil Warnock will be the new Huddersfield manager. Just had that from an excellent source.

He does get a few wrong though doesn't he, Cawley?
  • Got halfway through reading this and gave up. The word "helmets" came to mind.

don't need to be a rocket scientist to work that one out. Hardly sticking your neck out Cawley.

  • dont think there was much love lost between him and players and fans had turned as well

I think all that has emerged in this thread shows the dangers of passing judgement from the outside.

Like Parkinson last year, measured solely on league position it seemed strange.

Then it all starts coming out - team has lost its mojo, not playing well and grinding out too many draws, chairman pissed off because he's spent a lot of money and not getting what he thought he had paid for, rumours of dressing room discontent and manager starting to lose the fans.

Put like that, a decision that to outsiders initially looked strange begins to look logical and a case of common sense. Especially if the chairman already had an indication from Warnock that he was prepared to step in, whether it's only to the end of the season or permanently.

Personally, if it is Warnock I think Huddersfield will have a far better chance of grabbing second place behind us than they had under Clark.

You are right on the money there. Clark is a good PR/Face on the Club Poster man .. Warnock is a grumpy old bugger who gets results
  • You have to ask why Warnock would take the step down to League One level? I'm fairly sure he sees himself as a Premiership manager and he's also knocking on a bit. Does he have it in him to stick around for the time needed to get Huddersfield up to where they want to be?

If the money is right he'll go.

Can certainly see Warnock doing it until May - and then if they are in the championship he'd probably stick with it.

Under Clarke, Huddersfield were pretty much nailed on for a play-off place but looked like they would struggle to make second. What the club is gambling on is someone with a little bit of magic who might just get them up automatically. It's not even high risk, really. They will at worst make the play-offs, whoever comes in. But they might just be able to go one better.
  • I've not been able to get on the pc until now and just found this out. Surprised but not entirely shocked. Don't see them as a challenger for the auto spots now anyway, so shouldn't really affect us. Can see them dropping out of the top 6 to be replaced by Bournemouth..................
  • He fort that Clark had to go up that season.
For the love of God tell me an iPhone corrected that.
JiMMy - With you on that 'fort'!

  • I hope it is Colin, he could put Udders back in the mix and take pressure of us by pushing the chasing teams.

    Quite write.

  • The squad was a shambles because we were operating on a low-end L1 budget
This isn't what the accounts say - we still had a lot of players on Championship salaries - I wouldn't be surprised if the total wages budget will be lower this year than last.
  • "Town carried that same form into this season and were running in the top two until a loss to runaway leaders Charlton."

Doesn't that phrase have a lovely ring to it, " ....runaway leaders Charlton?"

The more you think about it the more illogical it becomes.
For that reason one can't help feeling that there just may be more to it than meets the eye.
Only a thought, but has he (or someone representing him maybe) been 'found out' talking to other clubs behind their back?
  • "A host of players were signed with little to no regard on how they were going to line up and this is the biggest criticism of Clark. He never gave the impression that he knew his best XI nor even had an idea of how his players should be arranged."

Now which Charlton manager does that remind you of?
  • @oggy red pardew comes to mind, maybe Clark ... e will go to help at Newcastle

Sounds like it is going to be Warnock. The Huddersfield Examiner has asked him if he would be prepared to drop to div one (three).

Apparently he needs one more promotion to break the league record (currently held jointly by him, Dave Bassett and Graham Taylor) . What better or more fitting opportunity than back at the club where he started?

    Here's his full reply:

“It would have to be with a special club, and Huddersfield is special. I am not a big-time charlie. It doesn’t bother me managing in the Premier League the Championship or League I – I’ve got to want to enjoy being the manager.”

Confirming he’s in the market for a job, Warnock added: “I want the rest of this season and one more – that’s all. I have got seven promotions and I want one for the record.”

Sounds pretty cut and dried - good appointment and sounds like the chairman was pretty certain he could get him. Begins to make sense, though doubt that makes Clark feel better.
