Lee Clarke leaves Huddersfield

  • Outsiders probably thought the same when Charlton sacked Parkinson!
we did have new owners who wanted to make their mark on the club though. so that would help to explain that.
  • plus we hadn't won in over 6 weeks, and we had just got stuffed by a side struggling in the league. Huddersfield have only lost 3 games all season, and suffered a narrow defeat to one of the top 2 sides in the division, I don't think the two situations are comparable at all.
  • An absolutely crazy decision.
  • Bet he regrets turning down Leicester now. He showed a lot of loyalty to the club, but they seem to have forgotten that.
  • Did he turn down the Leicester job or didi Hudders stop him from talking to them?
  • Did he turn down the Leicester job or didi Hudders stop him from talking to them?
At the very least he categorically stated that he had no intention of leaving hudders for Leicester
  • I think there must be other issues than just the results. Surely.
  • the board at HTFC found out he lied about being a freemason.........
  • Pretty much us last season.
They obviously think they are better than they are and should be winning the league like us last season. Looking back we can see how bad we were and were probably over achieving sitting in the top 6. Although Huddersfield and Clarke are doing better than we were and I think its a bad decision but can see why theyve done it.

You never know they could 'do a Charlton' and bring the right man in and make the right changes as we did.
  • Not totally surprised, I've been having a look at the Hudders forum for a few weeks and they haven't been happy with him for a while, alot of dropped points weird tactics etc.

Said on here a few days ago he would take a job like Wolves if offered as if he didn't get promoted this year with Hudders his reputation as one of the up and coming managers would be lost and he's only on a rolling contract so would've parted company in the summer anyway.

Plus I get the feeling maybe his heart hasn't been totally in it the last few months, never saying no to the Leicester job when asked etc linked with leeds and Wolves now. Don't know who Hudders will get in now, can't see Warnock going to L1 level

Sources close to Lee Clark say he was fired in 2 minute phone call from Huddersfield chairman - Clark now considering unfair dismissal claim

Ian Liddel who covers us for the Standard seems to feel the National Journalists are much more sympathetic to Clark than those who cover L1 week in week out.

Seems like the next job for Grayson or Mccarthy.

  • Very strange if he has been sacked for results after the loyalty he has shown.

They are the 3rd best side in the league and I think they would go up in the play offs
Agree - apart from that it is a daft time to get rid when the transfer window has just shut...

Surely they are dreaming if they think they are going to get Colin.....he could end up at Leeds or even Wolves - can't see him going to L1. Surely Grayson is going to end up there?
  • What's Sean O'Driscoll doing now?

Did very well at Bournemouth and Doncaster.
  • Lee Clarke considering unfair dismissal
  • Just say sorry Huddersfield.

  • I'm actually not that surprised by this. He's been on the edge for a while now as every year Town invest quite strongly in players, particularly on wages from what I've heard and they still fall just short, which can be more frustrating than just falling away. Having the likes of (at various times) Pilkington, Rhodes, Joey Gudjohnsen, Smithies, Novak amongst others has meant that they should be strong contenders every season but they always just fail. Pilkington now plies his trade mid-table in the Prem, Rhodes scores for fun, and after a while the question gets asked of why the team isn't performing if they have the resources. In the end it's always the manager who gets the blame. I think Clarke's biggest problem was being unable to form a strong defensive unit. Think how many times they've come back late on, or come away with a draw in a match they should have won. Even in their huge unbeaten streak there are too many draws, and then team seem to trip up in the Play offs. I'll be interested to hear more about these concerns behind the scenes the board hhad but I was expecting him to be gone at the end of the season anyway, maybe even if they did win the Play offs
  • time will tell but i am not sure if LC is the manager we might presume him to be

but it helps us without doubt ...one aim for us that is !
  • Strange, after he has taken them on this record breaking unbeaten run of 435 games. I think he'll go to Leeds. Just goes to show... hero to zero in the blink of an eye.
  • It has gone beyond the point whether it helps us or not. I think they are too many points behind now. Not sure it helps them though but we'll see no doubt.

Is this because he was only on a rolling contract and as such wouldn't get a couple of years of his contract paid up as per most other managers when they get sacked ?

  • People cry ''madness' every time a manager gets sacked, and this is the second time we've heard it this week.

But chairmen and boards of directors do not sack managers on a whim or a caprice. They are as desperate for success as the fans - they've got money invested in it, after all. Boards sack a manager for one reason: they believe that somebody else can do better.

Huddersfield were banking on automatic promotion and gave Clarke a budget to achieve it. They now see that prospect slipping away and have moved decisively to try and rescue an automatic spot before it is too late.

Whether they are ''mad'' to have done so, none of us can know until we've seen what the new manager achieves. It's a gamble, for sure. But that doesn't make it ''ridicuolus''. It might turn out to be an inspired move, like the sackings of Parkinson and Di Matteo last season.

Let's wait and see. Either way, there will be no impact on Charlton's procession to the league title.
  • It is an interesting decision. I'm sure once it becomes clearer why he left (jumped or pushed) we will have more idea, but for now it does look like a strange decision. I can't see what they are set to gain by doing this now, unless they have their eye on a manager out of work and think that he will not be available in the summer.

Having said that last night's defeat does make second place seem a long way away. It's 4 points and they've played a game more than Sheff Utd (who are in great form). Ironically a win last night would have put them in second place. It was a real six pointer.
  • When you look a bit into it, it's not as surprising.

The unbeaten run covered a lot of cracks. They had this big unbeaten run, yet still never got promoted. There was a lot of draws in there.

They have the best player in the division in Jordan Rhodes, yet they're in 4th. I'd be surprised if they got automatic promotion ahead of Sheff Utd and they have no chance of catching us.

Lee Clarke is over-hyped, in my opinion. Not sure who they'll get in though, no chance of Warnock or McCarthy, possibly Grayson.
  • Club and fans getting alot of stick on Twitter over it. Stan Collymore calls the sacking 'one of the biggest jokes in modern football.'
  • think this is a similar situation to when you know your about to get dumped so you end it first...
  • Hi guys, new member here so please go easy on me!

I work with a Huddersfield fan and he reckons its nailed on that Clarke is going to Leeds. Huddersfield regard Leeds as one of their main rivals and he may have been 'sacked' in order to save face for both parties.

Lee Clarke wont therefore get any stick from the Huddersfield fans for jumping ship to join their local rivals, and the Huddersfield board wont face the abuse from fans for letting their manager go to their local rivals.
  • I doubt that as he is talking about launching an unfair dismissal claim and Hudderfield would have been entitled to compensation.

Would have thought warnock or mccarthy for leeds job. Udders have done the right thing, clarke just wasn't ever going to get them promoted.

I don't disagree with any of that but now seems like a silly time to do it. They made acquisitions in January which would suggest that they were happy with him then. It may turn out to be a master stroke but it just seems a little strange to me.
