So...do we know or can we actually find out the full extent of this sad turn of events? We only know of the folk who post on here, which at a guess is around half a dozen or so; we can only speculate as to how many others are involved. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I honestly don't think anyone set out to deliberately rip anyone off but bad business practice or conflict between various parties over who is responsible for various parts of the deal (i.e. stumping up money for goods and services), are the most likely reasons behind it, knowing Steve Jones that wouldn't surprise me. I've had business dealings with him myself, albeit quite a few years back and I know he's sadly lost a substantial amount of money in various fruitless enterprises over the years. Not that my opinion is any consolation to those who've effectively been 'ripped off' and I'm in no way making excuses for their actions.
The ones best placed to 'find out the full extent' (assuming Steve is not going public any time soon) are the cops but whether anyone wishes to involve them (or whether they would be interested) is a different matter. Genuine Charlton supporters being taken for a ride by a former player(s) is hard to take.
SA£: Sorry to ask, but did you and Steve get the "problems" sorted, or did it get to the legal stage ?
Actually P, I myself didn't have a problem with him but through other contacts in the memorabillia/merchandising business I got to hear of his failures with various projects. Whether those people went on to have legal dealings with him I cannot say.
@roseandcrown The problem is that it is nothing to do with the club I'm sure that certain people are keeping a watching eye on this.
As Barts said earlier, people have been in contact with Steve Jones, good people who have the clubs interest at heart. If they can't get through there is little more they can do.
I suspect that the time has come for people to pull together and start legal action against certain parties. The whole thing leaves a very bad taste, I didn't say so at the time as I pretty much keep my counsel on certain subjects discussed on here but I had fears about this event and what was being promised, thats speaking from my own viewpoint, I can't say how others feel but I guess they also had reservations.
Problem is by the time you pony up for lawyers etc. then you end up shelling out more dough than you've already spent, with no guarantee you'll get anything at the end of it anyway.
Also, to be honest, it would be a bit unfair to involve Brighty, Illic and Yous in this, I doubt that they are exactly bosom buddies with Steve Jones these days.
As others have said the whole thing leaves a very nasty taste when good people are taken advantage of like this in the guise of a supposedly good cause.
It's best to go through the small claims courts (county courts) .. it's a relatively cheap procedure for (yes) small(ish) amounts of money and/or goods. The respondents might not pay up but there will be a public record of their non payment and if it were me, that would be at least some small consolation for being ripped off. The procedure is easy and not too time consuming. It can be done online. Just google: 'small claims court' for all the information you would need. Also, a letter or two to the press would not do any harm and could prevent other people being taken advantage of. This whole affair is so distasteful and sullies the reputations of several players who did so much for Charlton.
Surely a letter to the club explaining the problem may get them to contact Steve Jones, which would get him to come out of the woodwork and explain himself be it through the club or on this site. CAFC would not welcome any adverse publicity and I feel they would endevour to help

Mmmmmm.........maybe but doubtful, this was an unofficial event and as such the club would no doubt distance themselves from it.....and who could blame them. I'm sure that there are a few journos (both local and national) that visit this board....I'm half expecting a story to come out at some stage, though let's all hope not (leastways at this stage) as it would certainly be embarrassing for the club, despite it having nothing to do with them whatsoever, I feel so sorry for all concerned. It's not just the money is it, but that it involves people who we admire and gave us so much pleasure, we so much want to keep those memories dear to us and unsullied in any way shape or form, because of that it's hurting us all in some funny way. Even those of us not directly involved. I think the best person to contact would be Clive.....you may get some answers from him as I'd stake my life that he wouldn't have 'knowingly' got himself embroiled in this.

Pretty good summing up Sound, and yes there are some journos on here, (they just do not have the balls to own up to it)..... I do not see how the club can in anyway be held responsible, but it will get 'tainted' as they will use the good name of Charlton as a springboard to do this.( as we are in the news it is a soft target for a lazy news editor.) I must admit that I find the whole issue outrageous. I guess when it comes to money there are some desperate people out there. To me the play offs were the finest moment in my support of the club, this ' episode' seems to tarnish that day, and everyone associated with a decent club. All rather sad..........
I'd like to keep my own thoughts to myself on this one, but if you want confirmation that the person posting under stevejones is him, then yes it is.
I'll say it.
£20/£30 to sit in a room and ask a few questions sounds a bit on the steep side to me, despite the probable "best intentions", etc. The "Platinum Package" at £50 sounds like a complete joke really. Unless you get your own lap dancer with that then I really don't see how that sort of dough can be justified.
Shoot me down if you want, but I won't be shelling it for it.
Anyone still think the whole thing WASN'T about making a cheap/fast buck?

looks like it was suspicious from the start, guessing AFKA was suspicious anyway?
It's clear from the thread that certain lifers were concerned when it was mooted - it's a shame that their suspicions appear to have been confirmed.
However, I think it's important to state that BDL has said that Super Clive is not responsible for any of this sorry mess; he appears to have an inside track on the ins and outs of it (that he is understandably reluctant to post here given that action of some sort appears to be have been initiated).
Just caught up on all this - Feel pretty sad about Steve Jones ruining the memories! Truly hope Super Clive had nothing to do with it and you all get refunds and a proper apology from the floppy-haired git.
Also, I am guessing Ken From Bexley didn't work in the comedy dept. at the BBC. Or maybe he did, which would explain a thing or two!
Jones is a wrong'un and wants tucking in. Even if the delay is nothing to do with him (though i suspect it is, he's probably not paid someone somehwere) he can't just disappear. Someone should be able to contact him, surely? If it was my 100 notes I guarandamntee you I'd be waiting outside that Tescos with tools.
If you did turn up at his Tescos though (maybe not with tools) and created a scene, they'd probably pay you to go away rather than have the adverse publicity surrounding one of their employees.
